From CNA - seems like home made bomb... KUALA LUMPUR: At least 14 people were injured, one seriously, after an explosion in front of a pub at Sun Complex in Jalan Bukit Bintang at about 4.20am on Thursday (Oct 9), Bernama reported. The explosion is believed to have resulted from a homemade bomb, the news agency reported on its Twitter account. Berita Harian Malaysia reported that police confirmed among those injured are Singaporean, Thai and Chinese tourists. The newspaper said initial police investigations indicated that the explosion was targeted towards the seriously injured victim. The Star reported that the injured were aged between 22 and 40 and included two women. They have been sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur and the nearby Tung Shin Hospital. At least four cars were hit by the explosion, according to The Star. The report said that the explosion came from two devices placed underneath two cars parked in the area - one of which was believed to be an unexploded grenade. The Star reported that the two explosive objects were thrown at the scene from the second floor of a building.

Most of the time, in action movies, we get to see a car (or vehicle) explosion. Usually it is from a nudge from another car and the nudged car flips, lands and explode or from a simple but accurate gunshot to the fuel tank. It looks as though cars get blown up very easily in movies. But, in reality, that is not the case. In fact, you could shoot a bullet through the fuel tank and the car will not explode and also, we will never get to see the kind of explosions we usually see in movies when a car is driven off a cliff. So, how are these vehicular explosions are achieved in movies? In this age of digitally made special effects, the widely preferred option when dealing with car explosions in movies is to do a real live explosion. Digitally made explosions still look very artificial and a real fireball looks simply stunning. This was explained by Drew Jiritano of DJFX, a professional New York special effects company. But to film an effective explosion is not as easy as it seems.

I've been hearing a series of explosion sound for a few min interval since the morning. At first I thought they were just rolling thunder as the sky looks like it is going to rain. But then I realised it is happening the whole day, even now at certain regular intervals. I'm very sure it must be some kind of explosion. maybe live firing or demolition. Anyone staying in chua chu kang / jurong / Tuas area heard that too?
