  1. Just checked my hdb loan statement. Loan amount=103 5000 Loan tenure=25 yrs montly payment=478 IP payment=90 Is the montly payment inclusive of hdb interest? Total payment after 25 yrs is 144000 estimated. Why am i still being charged IP of 90 over dollars a month which was initially 100 over dollars a month? My loan is 103 000 but will pay total ~144000 dollars and still need to pay IP monthly. Is this interest upon interest? I am really dumbfounded. Any gurus can explain!
  2. Just wondering if this is a 'normal' or unfair practice. I booked a Cat-A car from a top AD here about 1 mth before, when COE was $67k and the car price reflected as such. During the May 1st bidding, SE says they bidded at 68k, but COE went to 68.6k. Then came May 2nd bid, SE then says they bidded at under 65k instead !?!???? and alas did not get the COE which ended at 66.6k. Thought i paid at a price based on $67k COE, why did the AD shortchange me by bidding lower ?? Is this common?

  6. Why I was growing up, the only thing I remember about South Korea is they have lots of student riots Nowadays, they have well known electronic companies like Samsung and LG, their cars are on the up and also making an impact on the entertainment scene with their K-Pop and tv series. How did this come about? Was there a guiding hand behind all these or did it just come about? Taiwan is another one. Their politics seem farcical, their entertainment rather crass (imo) but they have companies like Acer, Asus and HTC.
  7. Back in March 2010. Went to Ipoh with a good friend via KTM. Sit from 11pm to 6am. Around 9am or so when went to toilet, realise my butt there got one hole. Underwear also got hole too. Okay, take next train to Ipoh. Got down train, sit on metal bench, wah! kachang felt cold immediately. realise, the hole got bigger. Ok, went back hotel, went on his brother's car. Realized my pants the threads keep falling off. Ok, nvm. After that, shop shop awhile. Realise need to use my shirt cover my kachang or else damn lao kui. Back to hotel, sleep one night, realise got more holes at the front of my pants, as show in the picture. Got back sg, same kind of holes in my shirt too, but not very big. Can any bugs or insects bite my pants until like that? Somemore expensive marks and spencers one leh.
  8. ... "Lean-burn mode indicates the engine is running at a super lean air/fuel ratio of around 20:1 !! Normal engines would probably have detonated itself to pieces way before getting anywhere near this ratio..." Why would a lean mix lead to engine uplorry? If the engine can tahan consistently the 20:1 ratio means the engine block is very solid is it? Appreciate gurus here to explain.
  9. This writer did... though I am not sure if she herself understands it. http://news.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNew...510-277950.html My son teaches me how to vote My son summed up for me what it means to be a voter: to use your head, as well as your heart. -myp Tue, May 10, 2011 my paper By Clara Cho IT'S not easy explaining politics to a kid. This, I found out, during the recently concluded General Election season, which marked my five-year-old son's political awakening. "Mummy, why are there so many signs around our block with the same picture that is on my school uniform?" Julian asked me one day, pointing to the lightning bolt on his PE T-shirt. Trying to think of a simple way to explain the electoral system, I said: "There's going to be a big competition, in which everyone in Singapore is going to help choose a winner." I added: "The people competing are from groups called political parties." Julian then asked, referring to a story from the Thomas the Tank Engine series: "Is it like the competition that Gordon joined, on who was the best dressed?" I replied: "Um... yes, sort of. And the contestants are like Gordon, Percy and all the other engines in Tidmouth Sheds." Over a long dinner, the Supportive Spouse and I explained to Julian how political parties worked. In Politics 101 for kids, we introduced him to "the Government", which was made up of "people we chose to take care of Singapore, making sure we have homes to live in, jobs and workers to keep the roads clean and tidy". Putting things so simply tested my understanding of the system. But it also demonstrated that the principle of it was logically sound, so that even a kid could grasp it. We told Julian that Singaporeans were going to choose people for the government, from a pool of people who wanted to represent various parts of Singapore in the competition. And we told him that the Government, since independence, has been made up of People's Action Party members, and they have set up towns, hospitals and schools - such as the kindergarten he attends. We told him about opposition parties, and how they wanted to be voted into Parliament, so as to provide a different way of doing things. Different parties believe in different things, we said, and have different things they want to do for the country. The boy wanted to know more. And more. Rather than give him black-and-white answers, we felt it was important to explain things so that he could make up his own mind. We told him about how political parties would try to get voters to choose them, by promising them things. And the key was in deciding for yourself if the promises are what you want, and if the promising party is capable of delivering on them. "If two people ask you to vote for them as your parents, and promise that they'll buy toys for you and not scold you, would you choose them?" I finally asked my son. Julian shook his head: "No. I want you and Papa to be my parents. Because I love you." And, just like that, my son summed up for me what it means to be a voter: to use your head, as well as your heart. For more my paper stories click here.
  10. ... the rationality behind having a red plate (OPC) white Porsche Cayman. I saw a white Porshe Cayman with a red plate. And I'm a little puzzled as to... Why? Why can't the owner simply buy a slightly cheaper can and have a regular plate. Than to buy a slightly more expensive Cayman and get some savings back by having a red plate? There are SLKs, 370z, Audi TTs... it'd be the same px as a red plate Cayman, only you have a regular plate? I know there are reasons why, but they don't make sense to me. Am I the only one who feels puzzled and "????!!" when I see a red plate Alfa GT, or Cayman or BMW 335? To save that measly <20k? Why not save more and buy a cheaper car? [crazy] Anyone else with similar sightings and/or opinions?
  11. Is it the price of the car without any other taxes like import/GST etc? So lets say a Lancer EX gt 2.0 is manufactured here.. Then its OMV is 19k. So when sell to the consumers it will be 19k? Damn cheap i can say if its like that.

  13. Youngest Son: "Tell me Daddy, what is the difference between Potentiality" and "Reality" Dad: "I will show you"... Dad turns to his wife and asks her: "Would you sleep with Robert Redford for 1 million dollars"? Wife: "Yes of course! I would never waste such an opportunity"! Then Dad asks his daughter, if she would sleep with Brad Pitt for 1 Million dollars? Daughter:" Wow! Yes! He is my fantasy!" So Dad turns to his elder son and asks him: "Would you sleep with Tom Cruise for 1 million dollars"? Elder Son: "Yeah! Why not? Imagine what I could do with 1 million Dollars! I would never hesitate!" So the father turns back to his younger son saying: " You see son, "Potentiality" we are sitting on 3 million dollars, but in "Reality" we are living with 2 prostitutes and 1 gay!!
  14. From ST today: Mah: "Town councils must be accountable to their residents for what they do with the money they collect from them..." ie. Not the government's problem but the junior staff's (Remember the MSK case?) Further down... Mah: "The Govt stipulates that 20-25 percent of money collected from monthly service and conservancy charges must go to a sinking fund." Therefore, it means that (1) The govt is ultimately the one at fault (2) We are over-charged by AT LEAST 25% for our monthly conservancy charges. Why? Did we approve them to use our money for this purpose???!!! What other things are they hiding from us???
