This is because he’s a cancer patient and needs to be comfortable at home. However, this has caused some inconvenience to his neighbours in the unit above, who have to bear with condensation on their floors. The 64-year-old resident in question lives in a flat in Block 258A Compassvale Road, reported Shin Min Daily News. Identified only as Mr Huang, he said he was diagnosed with end-stage liver cancer in 2020 and had to sell off his house to pay for his treatment. Thus, he moved into his current rented flat in the block a few months ago. Upon moving in, Mr Huang installed nine aircon units in the flat, despite it only having four rooms. While there are two of them in the master bedroom, the other two bedrooms have “just” one each. The living room, however, has five aircon units. He paid S$13,000 to install the appliances. Mr Huang told Shin Min that the aircons are turned off when he’s not at home during the daytime. However, when he’s at home, he turns them all on at the same time, set to a frigid 18°C. He explained that the extreme temperature is due to the hot weather, and it’s how he can feel comfortable at home. As for his electricity bills, he claimed that they exceeded S$1,000 per month at the previous residences he’d rented. But he’s cut down a lot on his usage now, so his bill for last month was a comparatively cheap S$350. While many Singaporeans don’t wear much at home, Mr Huang apparently wears several layers of clothes due to the icy conditions in his flat. When a Shin Min reporter visited him on Sunday (21 Aug), he was wearing a green sweater over a blue long-sleeved shirt, and three or four layers underneath that. However, he was also wearing a pair of black shorts. The chill from his unit could be felt from the corridor outside. Mr Huang explained that he’s also afraid of the cold. But for the sake of his comfort, he apparently has no choice but to turn on the aircon and wear more clothes. He also said keeping the body warm would help improve his immunity — important due to his illness. For the full story, please visit the website above. TLDR: End stage cancer patient uses a total of 9 aircons in his 4 room hdb flat. Unit above have to mop the floor multiple times a day due to condensation. We are potentially looking at a system 5 and a system 4 installed in a 4 room HDB flat. This is just about the legal threshold of having two compressors in one space. I've read that cancer patients may experience hot flashes or night sweats as common side effects of cancer treatments or chemotherapy so that might explain the excessive number of aircons. But is there a need for 9 aircons though?

  3. http://transport.asiaone.com/news/general/story/7000-fine-not-excessive-14-parking-offences-judge Foo Jie Ying | The New Paper | Friday, Jun 26, 2015 A man who was found guilty of 14 parking offences is trying to appeal against his sentence of a $7,000 fine. Gabriel Ravi Janageran pleaded guilty to 14 offences under the Parking Places Act between 2011 and 2014. This includes 11 counts of parking in a place other than a parking lot, one count of parking in a season parking place, one count of obstructive parking and one count of parking with expired coupons. Earlier this month, he was fined $7,000. In mitigation, he said he has four children and is the sole breadwinner, working two jobs to sustain the family. He pleaded for leniency and a light fine. But District Judge Sarah Tan Yin Tze said in her judgment that the accused's financial circumstances did not have any "significant bearing as a mitigating factor". AT COURT'S DISCRETION "It is settled law that financial difficulties is a legitimate mitigating factor only in very exceptional or extreme circumstances and the weight attributed to it was at the court's discretion," she said. She pointed out that Gabriel had been granted four adjournments - three times in the Night Court, which deals with summonses and notices issued by government departments as well as road traffic offences, and once in the State Court, after the case was transferred from the Night Court. "...The accused had been granted numerous adjournments, at his request or otherwise... to allow him, inter alia, the opportunity to raise funds for the court fines," she said. Adding that each conviction for a first-time offence would warrant a fine of between $600 and $800 and a default sentence of two to four days, Judge Tan said Gabriel's sentence is "not unreasonable or excessive". "Taking a step back for a holistic perspective, (a) total fine of S$7,000.00 for the 14 charges is also not crushing. "I was of the view that a default term of one day's imprisonment per charge is appropriate, amounting to an aggregate default term of 14 days' imprisonment," she said. The accused is now out on bail pending appeal. What do you make of it? Really no time or really boh chap. So miserable to have the car. Can't pay for the fines, how to pay to keep the car running?
  4. Top 20 per cent consume 35 kg of added sugar a year. http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/scratch-win-contest-launched-get-sporeans-reduce-sugar-intake SINGAPORE — The next time you buy a drink with less sugar at a Kopitiam or pick up bubble tea with reduced sugar level at Gong Cha, you could stand a chance to win prizes such as vouchers from electronics, shopping mall and supermarket brands. The Health Promotion Board (HPB) announced today (Oct 11) that it is launching a Scratch & Win contest with the aim to reduce sugar intake among Singaporeans. The contest, in partnership with coffee shops, food courts, hawker centres and food kiosk chains, will be held across nearly 800 outlets. HPB aims to have 1,000 participating outlets on board the contest by December. Sweetened drinks have been identified as a source of empty calories, contributing 200 calories or about 10 per cent of the average daily caloric allowance, the HPB said. Individually, Singaporeans currently consume, on average, 20 kg of added sugar per person per year, with the top 20 per cent consuming approximately 35 kg of added sugar a year. A major source of sugar is sweetened drinks - 60 per cent of Singaporeans consume two or more sweetened drinks a day

  6. Pastor Dunn stressed that claims of extravagance have been exaggerated. 'Concerning the lifestyle of Rev Kong and his wife, we know them well. Rev Kong is a dedicated and motivated senior pastor of the church. He has been working hard for the past 20 over years and is a renowned and recognised personality on the speaking circuit. His wife is a successful singer,' he said. 'While their lifestyle reflects their own accomplishments, we do not see it as lavish or excessive.' In the NKF saga, we hv the PEANUT woman. In this CHC saga, we hv the PEANUT pasta.

  8. Hi, Anyone, besides me, feels a little annoyed when your passengers close your car doors with too much force? Though I doubt it, can someone confirm if that would cause any damage to the car? Thx.
  9. Just spoke to my mom today and found out that her 1.2 Opel Corsa with easytronic was in the workshop for failing to start. Apparantly there was excessive carbon buildup. This is the 3rd time this problem has come up. I'm not too sure if the buildup was in the engine or in the cat as the same warning light alerts us to the problem, with it either blinking or just staying on depending on the problem (it has done both). Now my mom always pumps 95 octane shell (min 91) and according to the mech, its not the first time this has happenned with shell fuels. Has this happenned to anyone else? If so what fuel were you running on, and what make and model is your car? I've asked my mom to pump either BP or Mobil as i had no issues with both these fuels on my previous car (megane). Any other advice would be most appreciated too. Btw, I can't do any checking myself as I'm currently in aust while my mom is in singapore
