Only one out of the 400 units of Ferrari Enzos is built with a bare carbon fibre body and that very unit is on sale now for a very large amount of money. According to Carscoops, this is the most special enzo ever produced. Its even more special than the 400th Enzo that was exclusively built for the Vatican which was donated for charity in the end. With the help of Carrozzeria Zanasi, a company that works very closly with Ferrari to help build custom cars for some of it customers, built this full carbon-bodied Enzo. It is now on sale at Exotic Motors for S$4.69 million if you have the cash!

Well, it's still sitting in the same police impound lot we last saw it in, but it may have a bright future ahead. The Enzo, along with several other exotics, is to be auctioned off in what the Daily Mail, via Jalopnik, claims is the most expensive police sale in history. The person who abandoned the car is believed to be a British citizen who leased the Ferrari and then fled Dubai 20 months ago when they couldn't afford the repayments and traffic fines. It's not uncommon to face jail time in Dubai for outstanding debts so we tend to see some financed vehicles abandoned, either at airport car parks or even the owner's former place of residence. However, it's extremely rare--and sad--to see something like a Ferrari Enzo left abandoned. Other cars seized by authorizes in Dubai and set to be auctioned include some that were stolen and others that were abandoned after they were involved in accidents. Under local laws, any car left for more than six months becomes property of the state unless a clear title can be produced and there are no outstanding fines. Ferrari Enzo supercars, of which only 399 were built for public sale, typically fetch up to a million dollars or more on the open market. It's not clear who much this example will go for, though it should still be a princely sum despite the poor condition the car must be in.

Several months back, I wrote about supercars left abandoned in two Middle Eastern countries. One of them is a Ferrari Enzo that has been impounded in a Dubai police impound lot. That particular Ferrari is still sitting in the same impound lot and it, together with other luxury cars, might have a better and brighter future. The authorities in Dubai have decided to auction off the Ferrari and 23 other luxury cars. Failed entrepreneurship was the reason why these cars were left behind but the best question to ask right now is; who is the person who did this? Apparently, the owner of the Ferrari Enzo is believed to be a British citizen who bought the car and then fled the country 20 months ago when he/she could not afford to pay the loan and traffic fines. In the Middle East, where some of the richest people on this planet live, super cars are left abandoned in the desert under the hot scorching sun. Why are these cars left to rot under severe temperatures and harsh weather conditions? Let us unveil the story behind these once magnificent rides. One of the reasons behind this is failed entrepreneurship. The picture above shows a Ferrari Enzo in a police impound lot. This is where cars of failed entrepreneurs end up. Some might think that it just need some wash and wax and a through interior tidy up. But by looking at the amount of sand and dust, including the hot temperature the car has been exposed to every single day, nobody can truly guess the impact of damage it had gone through. Only 400 units of the Enzo were ever produced. Fitted with a 6.0 litre V12 engine and a six-speed F1 styled transmission, with shift paddles. It produces 651 bhp at 7800 rpm and 657 N m of torque at 5500 rpm. If Enzo Ferrari is still alive today, this would probably break his heart. The next example shown above is the Jaguar XJ220. It was found abandoned in a Qatari desert. This car was originally sold in Dubai and was last seen in Beirut about six years ago. It was found with only 560 miles on the clock. Once known as the rarest car on this planet, has now left to rot in a desert. The Jaguar was most probably abandoned due to the same reasons as the Ferrari. It was, at one time, the world's fastest production car. A total of 281 XJ220 were made. Comes with a 3.5 litre twin turbocharged V6 engine and 5 speed manual transmission. It produces 542 bhp at 7000 rpm and 645 N m of torque at 4500 rpm. With these cars being really super rare and even if someone has the money to buy one right now, he or she has to wait for someone to let go of it. What we have here folks is actually something really unique. At first glance you'd think someone lengthened a Ferrari 348 over a very long chassis or that this must be some custom kit car using the Ferrari badge for the fun of it. But it's not. This car is actually the mother of all Ferrari Enzos. Most of you are aware what the Ferrari Enzo is/was. It was produced between 2002 to 2004 and was the flagship model of the Ferrari range at the time. 400 of these cars were produced and notable accolades included it being in the list of Sports Car International's 'Top Sports Cars of the 2000s' and also in Bloomberg's '50 ugliest cars of the past 50 years'. According to Bloomberg the Enzo's superfluous curves and angles as too flashy, particularly the V-shaped hood, scooped-out doors, and bulbous windshield. Whatever the case is, the Enzo is a striking car and was even more striking when Demi Moore drove one in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. But the mother of all Enzos pictured in here isn't. This car is one of Ferrari's test mules (prototypes) that somehow escaped destruction. Usually manufacturers do not sell their prototypes but this one was actually the one offered for sale sometime in 2005. Back then, it made 195,000Euros and now it's back on sale again by Ferrari specialists Modena Motorsport of Germany. To build the Enzo, Ferrari made three of these test prototypes in 2000. They were simply called the M1, M2 and M3. All were bodied like the 348 (which many said was a disappointing junior Ferrari) and all looked pretty strange to me. However one important fact is that the this test mule made 20PS more than the road-going Enzo. The other important fact that may be mentioned here is that the car is pretty ugly. So if anyone wants a piece of Ferrari history give the people over at Modena Motorsport a call. The price is on application. Ferrari's CEO Amadeo Felisa speaks his mind on future Ferraris

The CEO of Ferrari Mr Amadeo Felisa had some interesting remarks during an interview with UK magazine Autocar at the recent 2010 Beijing Motor Show. One of this was on the need for Ferrari to produce eco-friendly cars as we've seen when Ferrari displayed the 599HY- KERS hybrid car at a recent motor show. Of course, Ferrari purists may be fuming by this blasphemy, especially where a compromise must be made over the pursuit of power and handling over the environment. For most, a compromise to the essence of a Ferrari is unbecoming and unwarranted. Even Mr Felisa seems to be with the purists, stating the following: -
In and interview with British mag Autocar, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa hinted that the next Enzo will come with a twin-turbo, direct injection V8. Currently, Ferrari's flagship model is served by a 6.0 liter V12. Felisa was short on details but did say that the storied Italian supercar maker had ruled out rumors of producing a 6-cylinder power plant until there is a change in customer attitudes towards smaller engines. "The perception today is that the number of cylinders equates to the possibilities of the car. That is why we are developing hybrid technology that can be applied to our V8 and V10 cars," Felisa is quoted as saying in the Autocar story. The Ferrari chief also said that the automaker would not be expanding its use of carbon fiber materials across its model range - as is being done at competitors such as McLaren, BMW and Mercedes. Although, it will be used for the new Enzo since it is a low volume production car not used for everyday driving. Over the next three years, Ferrari will introduce a new 458 Spider, Ferrari Enzo "special series", and four other new models. The cars have been announced by Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne at a press conference earlier today. The 458 drop-top and an all-new 612 Scaglietti with a V12 engine are scheduled for next year. Referred to internally as the F151, the 612 Scaglietti may also be shown off as a hybrid model. Marchionne also announced a "new special series Enzo" would join the all-new 599 GTB Fiorano (a.k.a. the F152) on the 2012 marketplace. This will be followed up with a significant California Facelift, or as it is called inside the company, the "California M." Also due for 2013 is a suped-up 458 Scuderia. Look for both Ferrari and Maserati to make each of their models rather distinct, practically creating sub-brands within the two companies. Sister automaker Maserati is also expected to release two new models, slotted below the GranTurismo, before 2015.

The 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship will start off on Saturday, 17 April at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi with six manufacturer entries consisting of twenty-four cars. The defending champions, the Maserati MC12s, are expected to be at the forefront, even if they are slightly penalized in terms of performance by new FIA GT technical modifications. This is actually nothing new as when the racing versions of the MC12s first came out in 2004, the GT1 rules were somehow changed and the cars were already penalised for their extra range. One of the major changes to the GT1 Championship is the race formula itself, with two separate sprint-type one-hour races instead of a single two-hour race. It could be more interesting as spectators get to watch two races instead of one. And we all know that the most exciting stuff happens during the start of every race. Especially at the first corner. Maserati will participate in the GT1 Championship with four cars manned by two teams. Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini, winners of the driver title for the past two years running, will be driving Vitaphone Racing Team's lead Maserati MC12 once again, while Miguel Ramos and ex-F1 driver Enrique Bernoldi will helm the second MC12. The other MC12s are from the German racing team Triple H Team Hegersport and will be driven by a Belgian, Bert Longin and an Italian, Matteo Bobbi . This is in addition to the team's owner MC12, where Alftid Heger will be paired up with Alex Margaritis, a German driver of Greek origin. There will be ten championship rounds, four of which outside Europe and again a middle eastern country starts off the racing season (which shows you where the actual customer base for expensive GT cars is located nowadays). The championship will conclude in Argentina on 5 December 2010. For those who are not familiar with the Maserati MC12, the car is actually an Enzo Ferrari in race clothing. It shares the same Ferrari V12 engine with slight modifications (for more torque), the same gearbox and the same chassis and track. The Maserati MC12 has its own bodywork which is wider, longer and slightly taller leaving the windshield as the only externally visible component shared with the Enzo. This extra size allows for greater downforce across the whole body, adding to that of the two metre wide spoiler. It is harder to drive yet is faster than the Enzo on most race tracks. This is supposedly due to its more focused nature, more racer than road car compared with the Enzo. It is because of the focused nature that the car is still competitive five years after its launched. Ferrari releases news on the Ferrari 599GTO ahead of its official launch

The Gran Turismo Omologata (GTO) is back. Big time. Ferrari has officially issued a press release on the new Ferrari 599 GTO ahead of its end of April official launch at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show. This car uses the GTO moniker and follows the famous tradition of ultra-fast intercontinental grand tourers that Ferrari once homologated for racing in the 1960s. It was mainly made famous by the 250GTO, which Ferrari made and took it racing successfully. The 250GTO is now one of the most collectible and cherished Ferraris ever. The other famous GTO was the 1980s 288GTO which was one of the favoured wall poster dream car for kids in the 1980s as well as the forerunner to the F40. So the new 599 GTO has some big shoes to fill. According to the Ferrari press release, the 599 GTO is an extreme V12 berlinetta developed to a specific performance-oriented brief. The 599 GTO is Ferrari's fastest ever road car. It is an exclusive limited edition special inspired by a production car, the base 599GTB as well as the 599XX, the advanced experimental track car (like the Enzo based FXX), and can be considered almost a road-going version of it. The 599 GTO benefits directly from the transfer of technology from the 599XX. The car set a lap time at Fiorano in 1 minute 24 seconds. Faster than the Ferrari Enzo if you must know. The 599 GTO's engine is directly derived from the 599 with modifications for road-going homologation, thus complies with the strict Euro 5 and LEV 2 standards. The 5999 cc V12 engine makes 670 bhp at 8250 rpm with maximum torque of 620 Nm at 6500 rpm and the engine has been tweaked by Ferrari so that there is a smooth, constant rush of power all the way to the redline with no loss of flexibility even at medium and low revs. The 599 GTO features the same, 60 ms shift times and the possibility to make multiple downshifts like the 599XX. 670 hp in a 1495kg car represents a weight-to-power ratio of just 2.23 kg/hp, and ensures a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.35 seconds as well as a top speed of over 335 km/h. Now one of the reason of the high levels of performance is the innovative approach to chassis development which, for the first time on a production car, saw the integration between a handling set-up tuned for a level of responsiveness that is close to the limit and highly sophisticated electronic controls (Vehicle Dynamics Control). The result according to Ferrari is the almost complete absence of understeer and a truly communicative chassis. The driver-car interface is also new with the adoption of the Virtual Race Engineer (VRE) and manettino control systems (stability, traction, throttle, suspension settings) which provide the driver with instantaneous information on performance. The F1 style flappy pedal shifts are also longer for ease of use. The 599 GTO's more aggressive character is also apparent in a number of styling elements that recall the 599XX. The 599 GTO is equipped with the latest, second-generation carbon-ceramic brakes which are lighter and offer better performance. The latest aerodynamic innovations, such as the internal wheel doughnuts (F1 cars in 2009 had external donuts if you looked at the F1 cars wheels) increase aerodynamic efficiency as well as improve brake cooling, and the bespoke Michelins include a wider front tyre size. The GTO is also treated to some weight loss, more aerodynamic bodywork as the GTO generates downforce of 144 kg at 200 km/h, which includes a new front splitter, side sills, diffuser and rear spoiler. The vented hood is new, as well as the ten-spoke, 20-inch rims with the earlier stated F1-derived wheel donuts aiding aero efficiency. Now Ferrari has officially taken the wraps off its new performance benchmark, the 599 GTO, ahead of the car's official debut later this month at the Beijing Motor Show. Sort of a street-legal stepping point between the production 599 GTB Fiorano and the track-only 599XX, the 599 GTO evokes the famous Gran Turismo Omologato designation made famous by the legendary 250 GTO of the 1960s and the muscle-bound 288 GTO of the 1980s.
