IT show from 15 Mar to 18 Mar, at Suntec City Convention Hall. Since it's school holidays, hope there's lesser crowds. Any good deals to look out for?

Take note if you are travelling on these airlines/flying from or in transit from these airports to UK and US. Which airports are involved? The U.S. ban cover 10 airports, including major global hubs such as Dubai. The full list: Cairo, Egypt; Dubai and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; Istanbul, Turkey; Doha, Qatar; Amman, Jordan; Kuwait City; Casablanca, Morocco; and Jeddah and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The U.K. list is shorter. It covers all inbound flights from Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia but omits airports such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha. Which airlines are affected? The nine airlines that operate direct flights to the U.S. from affected airports are Egyptair, Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways, Kuwait Airways, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Turkish Airlines. The U.K. restrictions apply to 14 airlines: British Airways, EasyJet, Jet2.com, Monarch, Thomas Cook, Thomson, Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airways, Atlas-Global Airlines, Middle East Airlines, Egyptair, Royal Jordanian, Tunis Air and Saudia. Which devices are banned? Smartphones will still be allowed. But passengers will have to check in any electronic devices bigger than that. That includes laptops, cameras, gaming devices and tablets such as iPads. http://money.cnn.com/2017/03/21/news/airline-electronics-ban-explainer/

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-08-14/vw-has-spent-two-years-trying-to-hide-a-big-security-flaw Thousands of cars from a host of manufacturers have spent years at risk of electronic car-hacking, according to expert research that Volkswagen has spent two years trying to suppress in the courts. “Keyless” car theft, which sees hackers target vulnerabilities in electronic locks and immobilizers, now accounts for 42 percent of stolen vehicles in London. BMWs and Range Rovers are particularly at-risk, police say, and can be in the hands of a technically minded criminal within 60 seconds. Security researchers have now discovered a similar vulnerability in keyless vehicles made by several carmakers. The weakness – which affects the Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) transponder chip used in immobilizers – was discovered in 2012, but carmakers sued the researchers to prevent them from publishing their findings. Vehicles that used Megamos Crypto for some version/year. The models in bold are those that the research team experimented with.

Just throwing this out here is case anyone might have a recommendation. I'm looking for someone that is willing to have a go at troubleshooting and repairing a motorcycle dashboard (lcd panel type). Suspected problem is a joint or solder crack due to vibration over time as the problem was first intermittent at higher vibration levels and then degraded. I have been told that the lcd panel is now totally blank (backlight is fine, warning lights are fine, just the lcd display kaput). So no harm letting someone have a go at it and see if anything can be done, i have already sourced a replacement from Italy but thought maybe i'd give this idea a shot. The unit is small (approx. 20cm x 12cm) and a self contained unit, only one CANBUS input in from the ECU if i'm not wrong. Can be easily removed and transported. From my understanding it is purely a display unit and does not contain any immobilizer. If anyone has suggestions for a shop or even an electronics hobbyist please let me know.

So its another year of gadget galore from CES. Lots of exciting tech this year... and a lot of it involving cars as well. Off the top of my head; Toyota announces that it will offer its about 6000 patents on fuel cell technology and stations for free use by any manufacturer. This is to drive the adoption of the technology. Very similar to what Tesla did for its Li-ion battery and Supercharger station tech. Audi had its experiemental A7 remote drive car all the way from Cali to Las Vegas. Pretty cool that a car can handle the highway by itself without any driver input Merc showed off a a crazy futuristic saloon car that's larger than the S-class. Looks straight out of the future with its Lancia like looks and those doors without a B-pillar nVidia showed off its new Tegra chip and a sample UI for cars. Damn nice. Though their maps demo failed a bit I'm pretty excited about the stuff Sony has shown. Damn fine looking 4K TVs and those smooth lights which have integrated speakers in them Oh... and Olloclips 4-1 lens kit for iPhone 6/6+. The 10x and 15x macro lenses look awesome. The fish eye and wide lense not so much. 100 bucks on the Apple Store.... tempted to buy

I got problems with a used COE car I just bought. Was wondering if there is some mobile mechanic who can come down to my car park to fix instead of going to garage. Just two problems: 1) the car has a electric rear curtain but it is not working. either wiring kaput or motor kaput. need someone to have a look. 2) the VDO instrument cluster multifunction LCD is not working very well, got lines. anyone can repair?

Singapore: The world's most EXPENSIVE place for electronics?
Carndablues posted a topic in Lite & EZ
I was hoping to land myself a HD Video Camera at the IT show, the two models in particular I am after are the Canon HF100 and the Sony HDR-CX100. At the IT show, the price listed for both is at SGD$1899 and SGD$1599 respectively. However, when I check Amazon.com, after conversion, the price is about SGD$850 and SGD$998 (after conversion). This is perverse! In the case of the Canon, it is more than double the price! I had heard of this price difference from friends and relatives in Oz, when they told me it was cheaper buying electronics in Oz compared to Singers. I am really gobsmacked by this, luckily I checked online before I battled the crowds at Suntec! So for those who are still considering, you'd better think twice! -

Most of the installers, tuners, etc can do a good job like installing Apexi RSM, for Japanese cars as most of these products are for Japanese cars. What about non-Japanese cars? Does anyone know of installers that can install such gadgets on Continental / European cars?

Anyone have any experiences to share from buying ICE stuff from Edison at SLQ? I'm also wondering why they are able to offer such a low price(30% less) for their products. Heard from friends that they are export sets and not subjected to warranty.Any other diff between the 2? Thanks for any feedback.
