I didnt know that a FW life could be so cheap!!! http://news.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNew...821-366640.html SINGAPORE - The employer who left his dying foreign worker by the side of the road in 2010 was jailed three months on Tuesday. The Straits Times reported that Tay Kok Eng, 56, was also sentenced to an additional six months for hiring the same worker, who was an illegal immigrant, from August 2009 to March 2010. Tay, the owner of Midas Maintenance and Services, also faced a $12,000 fine for failing to ensure the safety of his employee. The worker, Chelladurai Lenin, 47, was changing the ceiling lights of a condominium lobby located Seraya Road on Mar 30, 2010 when he met with an accident. He fell 2.8m from an unstable ladder and sustained injuries to his head and leg. Tay offered to send Lenin to the hospital but the latter refused as he not have a legal work permit. Tay drove him to a clinic in Tampines and Lenin started to lose consciousness. The doctor advised him to visit the hospital immediately. However, Tay called Lenin's friend, whose identity is unknown, and they brought him to a clinic in Hougang instead. At the clinic, the doctor also advised Tay to bring him to the hospital. On the journey to Changi, Lenin's friend dumped him on the pavement and called 995. Tay told the operator that they had found an injured man lying along Upper Changi Road East. Paramedics arrived and found the Indian national dead.
  5. S'porean woman marries dying hubby in hospital Tuesday, Jun 19, 2012 The New Paper By Maureen Koh They registered their marriage 13 years ago, but this couple never had the chance to have a traditional wedding. But as the gravely ill man lay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the National University Hospital (NUH), deejays from Radio 1003, Singapore Press Holding's Chinese language station, swung into action, and made their wish come true two weeks ago. The radio station's programme director Carine Ang said: "It was such a touching moment... everyone present was moved to tears." It started with an SMS sent to the radio station by Madam Chua Mui Mui in April, wishing her husband a happy wedding anniversary. Madam Chua, 37, also revealed that her husband, Mr Tay Guan Yeow, 44, had felt bad all these years for not giving her the wedding of her dreams. After her message was read out on air, listeners called in with offers to help the couple have their wedding pictures taken. At the time, no one knew that the childless couple - who sell roasted meats at an industrial area in the western part of Singapore - were going through a harrowing situation. Mr Tay was suffering from kidney failure. He had been diagnosed just two years after they registered their marriage, in 1999, when she was 24 and he was 31. Battling his illness, they had put off the traditional dinner and wedding photos. Until Madam Chua's heartfelt message to the radio station. Offers of kindness The offers poured in. But the couple initially hesitated. Madam Chua, explains: "We were a little worried, and then because we had delayed responding to the offers, we didn't think more about it." Then, on June 5, Mr Tay's condition worsened and he was rushed to NUH. Doctors told Madam Chua that he might not pull through. It prompted her to send another SMS to the radio station's hotline. In the message, she asked: "If we want to take wedding photos, would it be too late? My husband has just been admitted to ICU." Ms Ang said the minute their duty deejay received the message, everyone was galvanised into action. She says: "Our hearts dropped. We wanted to do something for the couple, especially because we knew that Mr Tay was a loyal 1003 supporter. "We wanted to do whatever we could to make their wish come true." By 8pm, the team, which included deejay Tan Yan Wei and Ms Ang, had secured a rent-free gown from My Wedding Affair and complimentary photography. A nurse helped take Madam Chua's measurements so that they'd get the right gown size, and the team rushed down to the hospital. There was hardly a dry eye in the ICU when the bride walked in, resplendent in her gown. As she bent over over her husband, Madam Chua asked him: "Am I pretty? Are you happy?" Tears flowed freely as Mr Tay said yes, and handed a bouquet of flowers to his wife. 'I will live for him' Ms Ang said that those who witnessed the simple ceremony included Mr Tay's family members and Madam Chua's two younger sisters. After the ceremony, the groom told everyone: "I'm sorry that we don't have anything to give you." "But if I am discharged, I will definitely bring snacks and roast meats to the radio station." Madam Chua says she believes her husband, who had his left leg and right toes amputated earlier this year, is hanging on for her. She admits that some friends and family members have asked her why she stayed on with her sick husband, whom they view as a yoke around her neck. She says: "I don't get it, how can he be a burden to me? We exchanged vows and there's this line, 'In sickness and in health'. "How can we forget this line? It's never occurred to me that I should abandon him." In a recording that Mr Tay did for the radio station, he said: "This whole life, I loved only Chua Mei Mei. (There will be) no other choices and no regrets. I will love her forever and ever. "Whether it's in life or in death, I will also miss her. Even though I will leave first, I want her to go on living and carry on with her life." To which, Madam Chua says: "Some people have asked me what are my plans for the future. "I don't know. I've not thought about it. Just as my husband is keeping strong for me, I will do the same for him. "I will live for him." This article was first published in The New Paper.
  6. Are you afraid of death? Do you wonder what happens after we die? For many we have less than 50 years before we are dead that's 5 decades which passes by in a blink of an eye. Are you ready to face the reaper? Do you have any religion? Do you believe in heaven? Or that you will be reincarnated as a dog or some insect?
  7. One night, i couldn't sleep because i got this sudden fear inside me. I suddenly think of dying alone, with no one next to me..... i really pity those old folks who die without any family member next to them. I don't want to be like one of them. I'm married, but no kids yet. And I fear that my partner will leave before i do, and left me alone. I don't want to die alone. Anyone got this fear before.

  10. Came across this in hwz current affairs Posted by 4Dluckystrike When reading abt IT talents still in demand .. I can only summarised with my own experience :Our own talents no longer wants to be in this line. Reason: 1) Pay low even with degree + certs(MCSE,CCNA) Seriously, have classmates who are offered 2K plus.. and pay is dropping as companies are comparing with foreign talents. Those who stayed either moved overseas or to another area with minimal involvment in IT and they are ones with best technical knowledge... 2) No career progression within the field. Can you imagine whole project outsource to china and india??.. So where got need for managers or tech consultants developers?? They just need sales ppl with minimal knowledge and direct the rest to the overseas team. So what r the remaining posts available ???

  16. Hi guys, I have a Proton wira (overseas - not JB not SG) which I've been troubleshooting a problems for quite some time. After changing a few parts - solved some other problems and now it's left with a engine dying problem when the engine is hot + idling. Now I've narrowed down to the ignition - plug wires or the ignition dist. So my plan is to buy them and replace it. Can anyone advise how much would a distributor (or ignition coil) cost for a Proton Wira 1.5A? Year around 2000. I was quoted S$500 (overseas) just for parts when I visited 1 workshop. Quite shocked. Thought coils should be quite cheap....somemore it's proton. Not long ago, I DIY changed my mum's MB E200's Coil on Plugs. Each coil only cost $30. x 4 = $120. So cheap. Think I must have been quoted a extorbitant price for that proton coil. Will check the spare parts shop locally in SG. I also called my JB contact...they said it cost about RM600. Any idea how much it cost in SG?
  17. 2 weeks ago I bought 100 pcs neon treta and placed them in my 3 ft tank. All healty and growing. Last week, I bought 20 pcs of guppies. Within a few hours, they were grasping for breath and within 3 days 12 of them died. They stay on top of the tank most of the time and appear lethagic. One of the female even gave birth. Today 4 pcs left after somemore died. Even the a few of the fries died after growing for about 4 days. Yes I noticed the fries really grow, but died in no time. All 100 pcs of my neon tetra no problem. Can anyone help?
  18. Recently just had a lot of trouble with my computer. Firstly, it just restarts or trips even before my windows xp starts to load. its like someone pulled the powerplug and the whole comp trips. Then, it either restarts or just go dead, with no activity or lights. I had to whack the side pretty hard to kick start it again. Third, even when it loads to my xp, the mouse hangs and freezes!!!! so i have to press reset and then the cycle repeats So everytime i have hit the casing or reset several time before the thing functions properly. Does anybody know what is happening to my comp? Is it power box or the harddisk or the mother board or my software problem? My comp almost 2 yrs old P4 2.6 Ghz. Is it advisable to change motherboard, CPU, etc..... ?
  19. The battery check light suddenly appeared while i was driving today. RSM shows that voltage is 11.5V while engine is running, however, lights didnt dim, aircon is normal but sound system produces a hissing sound. While engine is off voltage is 12.2V. engine starts like normal also battery was change less than a year ago to a Varta MF. Could the battery be dying or the alternator have some problems?
  20. Twice this week, I've difficulties starting the car ... The battery is ~2yr 3mths old and had never given me any problem starting. Normally single crank will get the car going. For that 2 occasions, I've to crank 3 times to start the car! Does that mean that my battery going to die very soon ? Don't want to be caught in a situation where I am strandled with a dead battery !
  21. I had a volt guage installed. recently the volt reading reduced slowly from the usual 13.8v to now only 10.2v. Before i crank my engine, the reading was 10.2v and aft cranked the reading remain the same. Engine still able to crank thou and everything seems normal except the guage reading. Is the battery dying? do i need to change it now or wait until the telltale signs like slow cranking. Or mayb the volt guage is getting faulty? I m using stock battery and my car is barely 1 yrs 3 months old. i think there's nothing wrong with my alternator. cos aft i started the engine, i removed the -ve batt terminal connection and the engine did not die. I learned somewhere this is the way to check your alternator's life. correct me if wrong.
  22. Sounds kind of stupid but here goes... how to tell that the car battery is dying? Seems like getting more difficult to start the engine now. There is also shuddering when starting the engine. Noticed some increase in fuel consumption too. But, lights, car alarm seems to be ok. Need to turn up the volume for car stereo though. Any quick way to check? Multimeter? What's the voltage to be in the good range?
  23. Please help me guys. I will be going to a mecanic soon but i hope the understand the problem more first before going. I have a 20 year old manual car. It starts in the morning rather fine. It is recently that after travelling for awhile, when i slow down at a red light or if im searching for parking lot in a carpark, my engine just dies suddenly. Even when i restart the engine...it seems like it is strugling and if i dont rev my engine...it has a 50-50 chance of dying again. Also..there is a meter in my car. It looks like a tap with a drop of water spilling. the extreme left of the meter has a "C" and the extreme right has a "H". Normally its at C but when this problem occurs, the needle will go all the way to "H". Please give me advice or ask me questions if you need more information.
