An Emirates Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration A6-EMW performing flight EK-521 from Thiruvananthapuram (India) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates) with 275 people on board, was on final approach to Dubai's runway 12L at 12:41L (08:41Z) but attempted to go around from low height. The aircraft however did not climb, but after retracting the gear touched down on the runway and burst into flames. All occupants evacuated safely, no injuries are being reported. The aircraft burned down completely. The airline reported: "Emirates can confirm that an incident happened at Dubai International Airport on 3rd August 2016 at about 12.45pm local time." United Arab Emirates Government confirmed an Emirates aircraft arriving from India suffered a crash landing at Dubai Airport, all passengers have been evacuated, there are no reports of injuries. According to ATC recordings the aircraft performed a normal approach and landing, there was no priority or emergency declared. Upon contacting tower tower reminded the crew of lowering the gear and cleared the aircraft to land. Another approach reported on tower frequency. About 2 minutes after EK-521 reported on tower, the crew reported going around, tower instructed the aircraft to climb to 4000 feet, the crew acknowledged climbing to 4000 feet, a few seconds later tower instructs the next arrival to go around and alerts emergency services. (DUBAI) The city that boasts the world's tallest building is equipping its police with US$400,000 (S$495,000) Lamborghini sports cars that Dubai's deputy police chief says are in keeping with the Gulf capital's image. They also go fast, since according to the website of Lamborghini, an affiliate of the Volkswagen Group, all the Italian company's cars reach 100km/h in well under six seconds. Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina said that a fleet of Lamborghinis, each estimated to cost around US$400,000, had been obtained by the Dubai police for use at main tourist sites. "The aim is to reflect the reputation of the emirate and the high stature it achieved," Mazeina said. "It will also help promote tourism and showcase the security role the Dubai police plays in safeguarding the city," he added. The vehicles will be deployed at the downtown area near the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa tower, the Mohammed Rashid Boulevard as well as the cafe- and restaurant-lined walk of the Jumeirah Beach Residence, one of the most popular waterfront developments in Dubai. Photos of the vehicles published in local media in the United Arab Emirates showed a green-and-white vehicle decorated with the Dubai police insignia on the front hood. Dubai, one of seven emirates in the UAE federation, is staging a recovery from the financial crisis it suffered during the global financial crisis in 2009. The emirate recently has announced several major projects, including a huge tourism and retail development with the largest shopping mall in the world.

Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Ferrari and more... it’s every petrolhead’s wishlist of motoring exotica, but a daily drive from some for the lucky officers serving in the desert. We take a look at the cars that will be on your tail if you’re foolish enough to consider speeding in Dubai, the land where the PCs most certainly aren’t plodders... BMW M6 Gran Coupe Engine: 4.4 V8, 552bhp | Top speed: 250km/h | 0-100km/h: 4.1 secs A relatively tame part of Dubai Police’s fleet, but BMW’s legendary ‘M’ badge signifies there’s no shortage of power. With a 4.4-litre V8, the M6 Gran Coupe is propelled from 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds, on its way to a limited top speed of 250km/h. At just under £100,000, this is one of the cheaper cars on the fleet, but rest assured those sumptuous leather seats will keep criminals comfortable. Mercedes SLS AMG Engine: 6.2 V8, 591bhp - Top speed: 320km/h - 0-100km/h: 3.7 secs As supercars go, few would deny that the Mercedes SLS AMG is a work of art, with its generously proportioned front end sweeping back to a dramatic set of gullwing doors. Its rakish lines and aggressively flared arches and intakes give it a presence few cars can match. And with a massive 690bhp from the 6.5-litre V12 engine, this bull can charge to 350km/h and from 0-100km/h in a mightily impressive 2.9 seconds. But at £265,900, it’s definitely no cheap thrill. Aston Martin One-77 Engine: 7.3 V12, 750bhp | Top speed: 354km/h | 0-100km/h: 3.7 secs This is as special as they come from the legendary British maker. As the name suggests, the Aston Martin One-77 was a limited release of just 77 models worldwide. Beautifully hand-crafted materials and an obsessive attention to detail mark the car out. It’s no slouch, either, with 750bhp from a V12 and a top speed of 354km/h. The force’s accountant may be concerned at the £1,150,000 price tag, though. Ferrari FF Engine: 6.2 V12, 651bhp -| Top speed: 335km/h | 0-100km/h: 3.7 secs Practical and Ferrari are two words you rarely hear in the same sentence. The Ferrari FF is an exception, though, because it is a genuinely practical supercar with space for four occupants in a shooting brake bodystyle – the perfect choice for transporting criminals to the station quickly, thanks to its 651bhp V12 engine. Another costly addition to the Dubai police fleet. Bentley Continental GT Engine: 6.0 W12, 567bhp | Top speed: 317km/h | 0-100km/h: 4.3 secs Another British car, the Bentley Continental GT is a fine choice due to its superb refinement and quality. It’s hand-made at Bentley’s famous Crewe factory, and every effort is made to produce the perfect car, tailored to buyers’ every request. The 6.0-litre W12 engine catapults the car to just shy of 321km/h, and dispatches the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.3 seconds. Ford Shelby Mustang Roush Edition Engine: 5.0 V8, 575bhp | Top speed: 236km/h | 0-100km/h: 4.5 secs The Ford Mustang costs small change in relation to the other cars on the fleet, but doesn’t disappoint. This ‘pony car’ is more of a cobra, something its Shelby badge backs up. Modifier Roush has added even more power to the Ford, which features a highly tuned 5.0-litre V8. This pushes out 575bhp and gets the car from 0-100km/h quicker than the Bentley. It costs under a third of the price of its British rival, so what’s not to like? Dubai has long been associated with supercars and the rich. Even their police have supercars to patrol around in. On the topic of being rich, we all seemed to forget that many folks with normal levels of income still do exist. So it took us by surprise to hear that Dubai's director general, Hussain Lootah, wanting to keep normal people off the road so that they do not clog up the roads. Reason being, the rich are not happy their cars can’t stretch their legs with such congested roads. But why to such an extreme measure? Because Lootah does not believe in car-pooling, reduced car use or any other measures. Reason being Dubai, with more than 200 different nationalities among its residents, would invalidate any possible awareness programs. If this rule does become a reality, those affected are likely to be from the lower and middle income range. And if it does not, a rise in fuel prices, toll roads fees and other running costs incurred, would come true. As an alternative to driving, Dubai is trying to improve its public transport system and foresees an increase in use of the mass transit system which will began testing soon. For those willing to pay, more taxis and “luxury buses” will be available too. So should we be glad we don’t have to face such restrictions here? -

It's a commonly known fact that London often becomes the destination of choice for millionaires all over the world, especially during summer time. It seems that the millionaires just love the ambient summer temperature in the city. Well, that's besides the fact that most of them seem to love showing off their expensive collection of cars. This seems even more true for millionaires coming from countries with a climate hotter than that in London, just like this fellow millionaire from Dubai. Just like any other person in London, this fellow seemed to be enjoying his time in the capital city of England. However, it was only so true until he tried to get his Ferrari F12 Berlinetta out of a parking lot. Unfortunately for him, he bumped the right rear quarter of his quarter-of-a-million pound vehicle into the wall. But perhaps he didn't think of it as unfortunate, heck, he probably didn't even care - he's a millionaire after all. The Italian prancing horse didn't seem to be visibly damaged in the video (below), though. Watching the video till the end, the guy finally seemed to care about the scratch he might have caused on his car. Near a red light, he decided to get out to check the right rear quarter, the part he bumped into the wall. Honestly, I can say he seemed pissed afterwards. Well, I wonder what was actually on this guy's mind. Not enough with bumping his car - which some of us (including me) may never be able to buy, he went further to run a red light. Did he think he could do just as he wished whenever he got pissed? Alas, he got trapped in the yellow box marked around the junction as a result. Well, watching the video makes me wonder that it may not be suitable to drive a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta around the twisty narrow London streets. The car seems to better suit the rolling landscape and twisting hills in the country where it comes from. For those who still don't know, the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta carries a 6.3-litre V12 engine under its hood. It can produce a total output of 730bhp. That said, this particular model is also one of the most powerful monsters the Maranello-based automaker currently has in store.

Just four days ago, I wrote of the Dubai Police Department adding the Chevrolet Camaro and the million dollar Lamborghini Aventador as a cop 'cruiser' car. Now another set of wheels from another Italian marque joins the Aventador, in its quest to cruise around the affluent city streets to promote the area's image as a mecca for money - The Ferrari FF. The FF is a two-door, four-wheel drive shooting brake which sits four in some of the finest leather offered by the Maranello factory. If memory serves, the FF was an attempt by Ferrari to answer customers' calls for a family cruiser that is suitable for most weather, rain or snow with comfort with adequate boot space for your ski equipment. It measures 4,907mm long, sits 1,953mm wide and stands 1,379mm tall and is powered by a 6.3-litre NA V12 - akin to the F12berlinetta - which produces 651 prancing Italian horses and 683Nm of torque good for a 335km/h top speed. -

Aston Martin, in celebration of its 100th year since inception, dropped in a Vanquish onto the helipad of Dubai's Buri Al Arab hotel before showing if off to a group of dignitaries. At 321m, the Buri Al Arab hotel is the fourth tallest hotel in the world. It stands on an artificial island 280m from Jumeirah beach and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. Also as part of the British carmaker's 100th year celebration, the Vanquish, Rapide, V8 Vantage and DB9 will all be offered with a limited production Centenary Edition model with just 100 units. Since the star of this blog post is the Vanquish, its Centenary Edition comes with a special graduated paint finish, which adds 18 hours to the 50-hour paint process. Under the hood is a 6.0-litre V12 which makes 565bhp and 457Nm of torque. It sprints from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds. -

"In Dubai, nearly 300 outlets including petrol stations and supermarkets will stop selling tobacco for 24 hours," reported English daily, The National. Another daily, 7Days, said the move was to spread awareness about smoking hazards. "The move is aimed at spreading awareness about the dangers of cigarette smoking to make people think about tobacco consumption as it kills millions of people and affects public health," the daily quoted Redha Salaman, director of public health and safety at Dubai municipality, as saying. "One in four deaths is linked to smoking-related diseases" in the United Arab Emirates, another local daily, Gulf News, quoted a hospital official as saying. The sale of cigarettes in Dubai is prohibited to anyone below 20 years of age and public smoking is banned in the emirate, including in hotels, restaurants, cafes and offices.

Well, it's still sitting in the same police impound lot we last saw it in, but it may have a bright future ahead. The Enzo, along with several other exotics, is to be auctioned off in what the Daily Mail, via Jalopnik, claims is the most expensive police sale in history. The person who abandoned the car is believed to be a British citizen who leased the Ferrari and then fled Dubai 20 months ago when they couldn't afford the repayments and traffic fines. It's not uncommon to face jail time in Dubai for outstanding debts so we tend to see some financed vehicles abandoned, either at airport car parks or even the owner's former place of residence. However, it's extremely rare--and sad--to see something like a Ferrari Enzo left abandoned. Other cars seized by authorizes in Dubai and set to be auctioned include some that were stolen and others that were abandoned after they were involved in accidents. Under local laws, any car left for more than six months becomes property of the state unless a clear title can be produced and there are no outstanding fines. Ferrari Enzo supercars, of which only 399 were built for public sale, typically fetch up to a million dollars or more on the open market. It's not clear who much this example will go for, though it should still be a princely sum despite the poor condition the car must be in.

Several months back, I wrote about supercars left abandoned in two Middle Eastern countries. One of them is a Ferrari Enzo that has been impounded in a Dubai police impound lot. That particular Ferrari is still sitting in the same impound lot and it, together with other luxury cars, might have a better and brighter future. The authorities in Dubai have decided to auction off the Ferrari and 23 other luxury cars. Failed entrepreneurship was the reason why these cars were left behind but the best question to ask right now is; who is the person who did this? Apparently, the owner of the Ferrari Enzo is believed to be a British citizen who bought the car and then fled the country 20 months ago when he/she could not afford to pay the loan and traffic fines. In this current so-called economic climate, it would not be a surprise to most people that many are cutting down on their expenses. Especially when buying a car, many would consider what car they could get that is within their budget. Some would look into practicality and some would consider styling or performance. And there are even some who would consider all the three abovementioned factors. Shelby SuperCars has managed to register sales for 10 of their upcoming Tuatara model in a country where buying a US$1.3 million car is considered common or nothing. US supercar manufacture, Shelby SuperCars made a trip recently to the UAE for the Dubai International Motor Show. The trip was to launch and promote their upcoming Tuatara model and also to find a company to import and distribute the car in that region, where some of the richest people in the world live. During the auto show, the company not only attracted potential distributors but they also attracted a fair amount of potential customers and the company managed to seal 10 orders during the auto show which amounted to US$13 million dollars. And the best part is, Shelby SuperCars has not yet finished the production of their Tuatara model. In the Middle East, where some of the richest people on this planet live, super cars are left abandoned in the desert under the hot scorching sun. Why are these cars left to rot under severe temperatures and harsh weather conditions? Let us unveil the story behind these once magnificent rides. One of the reasons behind this is failed entrepreneurship. The picture above shows a Ferrari Enzo in a police impound lot. This is where cars of failed entrepreneurs end up. Some might think that it just need some wash and wax and a through interior tidy up. But by looking at the amount of sand and dust, including the hot temperature the car has been exposed to every single day, nobody can truly guess the impact of damage it had gone through. Only 400 units of the Enzo were ever produced. Fitted with a 6.0 litre V12 engine and a six-speed F1 styled transmission, with shift paddles. It produces 651 bhp at 7800 rpm and 657 N m of torque at 5500 rpm. If Enzo Ferrari is still alive today, this would probably break his heart. The next example shown above is the Jaguar XJ220. It was found abandoned in a Qatari desert. This car was originally sold in Dubai and was last seen in Beirut about six years ago. It was found with only 560 miles on the clock. Once known as the rarest car on this planet, has now left to rot in a desert. The Jaguar was most probably abandoned due to the same reasons as the Ferrari. It was, at one time, the world's fastest production car. A total of 281 XJ220 were made. Comes with a 3.5 litre twin turbocharged V6 engine and 5 speed manual transmission. It produces 542 bhp at 7000 rpm and 645 N m of torque at 4500 rpm. With these cars being really super rare and even if someone has the money to buy one right now, he or she has to wait for someone to let go of it.
