As stated in today New Paper front page : "Tall Tale Lands Couple in Jail" It is bad enough to be driving after having too much drink but male subject though that he could outsmart the police by first trying to escape a police roadblock and then concocting a talll tail after he was caught. He stop his car about 40m from roadblock, gets out and uses remote to lock his car. He then runs off. 2 police officers saw his act and gave chase, found him at the coffeeshop. When questioned, he denied he was driving and was looking for toilet. Officers found car keys on him and brought him back to the scene. The key unlock the car and he was given a breathalyser test. He failed the breathalyser test and was detained and his car compounded. Upon released on bail, he returned to TP for investigation with his common-law wife and claimed that is was her who is driving. She tried to corroborate his story with another lie. She claime that she pickup him at a nightclub and they had a fight inside the car. He get out of the car and she drove off but stop later, get out and look for him. She did not see the police roadblock in front. As she unable to locate him, she returns only to find the car missing and she did not make a police report on missing car. District Judge did not buy their story and found the couple defence "fanciful". The couple were jailed 2 week each and he was further find $2500/- and banned from driving for 18 months.
