  5. SIX double-decker buses, worth about $3 million, went up in flames at the Ang Mo Kio bus depot Sunday morning. Bus drivers arriving for work at the depot along Ang Mo Kio Street 63 were confronted by the acrid smell of smoke, and the burnt-out shells of the smouldering half-dozen buses. 'There were so many policemen and firemen around. I was shocked to hear that six buses had been burned...this is the first time I have seen anything like this,' said one 44-year-old bus driver, who arrived around 5.30am. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) is currently investigating the cause of the fire, though it is not known at this point if someone deliberately set fire to vehicles, estimated to be about $500,000 each. The SCDF added that the fire was contained within the six buses, as the rest of the fleet were parked farther away. A security guard on duty raised the alarm. No one was hurt. To ensure the morning services were not disrupted, buses were redeployed from other depots. The six buses all plied the No.25 route from Ang Mo Kio interchange to Bedok interchange. A spokesman for SBS Transit told The Straits Times that the loss of the buses will have 'some impact' on day-to-day operations, but that it would try to minimise inconvenience to its commuters by redeploying buses where possible. 6. Singapore - Residents of Ang Mo Kio estate reported being awaken by three to four thunderous 'explosions' in the early hours of Sunday morning. At 3.30 am, six double-decker buses at Ang Mo Kio Bus Depot caught fire. Residents from the nearby high-rise housing estate reported seeing large smoke fumes rising from the area as well as a 'smoky' smell coming from the area. The bus depot located at Ang Mo Kio Street 63, is within walking distance of Nanyang Polytechnic, Yio Chu Kang sports stadium, as well as Ang Mo Kio Fire Station. According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), it received a call alerting them of buses on fire at the SBS Transit Bus Depot at 3.33 am, and dispatched its resources within three minutes of being informed. Two fire engines, one Red Rhino and one supporting vehicle, with approximately 20 personnel resources, were sent. Fortunately, there was no casualties and the fire was brought under control within 30 minutes of the arrival of SCDF. Bus captains who started arriving for work at around 4.15 am were initially stopped from entering the scene. They were quickly cleared for entry as there were buses to be removed as precautionary measures. There could be up to 500 buses parked within the depot. The first bus left the premises around 4.40am. "Fire was confined to the six double decked buses in the open area. The cause of the fire is being investigated," says SCDF. SBS Transit to redeploy buses to minimise inconvenience to commuters In response to queries made by AsiaOne, Ms Tammy Tan, SBS Transit's senior vice-president, corporate communications, said: "We are assisting the police and SCDF who are investigating the cause of the fire. "We thank the SCDF for their quick response which helped confine the fire to six buses. "The loss of the buses will have some impact on our operations but we will try to minimise inconvenience to commuters by redeploying buses where we can."

  9. Hi fellow MCF pals, today was a unlucky day for me. The bird droppings hit my bonnet leaving tiny small marks and it's almost the same as melted plastic. When I run my nails on it, I could feel it and it's visible during day time. I'm aware that bird droppings are very acidic especially black crows. Greatly appreciate if anyone could provide some advices or remedies to it. Hopefully I don't need to have the entire bonnet resprayed. Many thanks.
  10. This marks the 2nd time the next-generation supercar has been totalled on public roads - and it's not even available on the market yet! Monday, June 19, 2006 Lamborghini officially unveiled the next generation Murcielago, known as the LP640, at the Geneva Motor Show this past March. Originally projected to hit the streets in spring, the date had been pushed back to September, which means this exotic is not yet available for consumers. Lamborghini is on schedule to produce a total of 300 units this year, all of which have already been sold out. Although the LP640 is not yet available to the public, there are a handful currently being driven on public roads usually with automotive journalists or Lamborghini drivers behind the wheel. That's why it comes as a shock that not only one, but two of these pre-production models has already been wrecked on public roads. The most recent being in St. Andrae, Austria on June 15, 2006. According to witnesses, the Lamborghini lost control and crashed into a tree after attempting to pass another vehicle. The car burst into flames - the driver had to be flown to a nearby hospital after suffering severe burns. The Lamborghini was on its way to a press event at the time of the accident.
