I am trying to comprehend. A brand new is the same price as old car by prorating the brand new depreciation value. Many people discourage from buying new by saying you lose 30% value the moment you step out of the showroom. Ive gone through the listings and made comparisons. It's not the case. Used cars sell up to 95% of brand new car value even if 1 year old with over 10k mileage

Hi guys, heard from an old friend that says new car once on the road already -20% liao. So i take it that he meant 20% depreciation in the first year. Maybe is this why people always say the first 2 to 3 years the first owner bears the brunt of the steep depreciation? Is this assumption near reality? 1st yr : 20% depreciation 2nd year: 10% dep 3rd year : 10% dep rest of the 7 years divide equally the remaining value.

Hi Everyone, Just sharing with ppl here for a chance to own an affordable car. I have a 8.5 year old Skoda Octavia that I am planning to send for Deregistration on 13 June. It's a good car that's got 1 year 7 months left of COE and only done 96,000 km on the ODO. Great starter car for any young adult or Student that needs to tavel the long distance daily to Poly or Uni. Take it at Market Scrap Value+ and you will have a workhorse at $4K depreciation per annum. You get back $11,600+ at the end of 1.7 years. Newer cars today are going at 6-8K depreciation. It's a waste for me to send her off to the Big Garage in the Sky. Hence this post. Interested parties can sms me for details at (9836)(6488) Cheers ! Skoda Octvia 1.6A Ambiente/Tour PRICE 18,000 ROAD TAX 740 TRANSMISSION AUTO ENGINE CAP 1595 REG DATE 14 Dec 2004 MILEAGE 96,081 COE $22,930 OMV $20,845 FEATURES Computerized Dash (Same as VW Passat) Safety Airbags Power Windows & Mirrors 15" OZ Sports Rims Black Leather Seats Knock Down Rear Seats Clean & Huge Boot Space 6 years of Servicing Records & Manuals NOTE Skoda Octavia uses the same chasis and engine as the VW Golf. 70% of the parts are from VW Golf & Bora. Just like to know if anyone would buy a high depreciation car in future? Let's say currently COE for CAT B @ 85K and new car price selling 200K. If this car go on sale in approx 4yrs time and selling 100K in the yr 2016, would you buy it? Just example, If the COE has drop to 30K in yr 2016 for CAT B, will you consider used car or new?

what is the reasonable depreciation yearly for 2nd hand car now?
-
In this climate of high COE, I'll looking to get a second hand car with low depreciation. I'm looking for the range of 6-7k depreciation annually (I really like the civic, but depreciation is like 9k annually). I don't mind slighty older cars, 4-6 y/o, but it should look decent, even hatchbacks are fine. Any recommendations?

Hi all, I'm just wondering for those of you that have had any experience with selling off a first hand "sports model" car, how badly hit were you by depreciation? Compared with selling off a normal model car's usual depreciation. I'm talking about cars like: Misubishi Evo, Subaru WRX Sti, Renault Megane R26/27, Ford Focus ST, VW GTI, Audi TTS, Mazda 6 MPS... Basically the types of cars that have base models, at MUCH cheaper prices e.g. Mazda 6 vs 6 MPS, or Lancer Ex vs Evo, whether the depreciation hit was much greater. Especially interested in continental cars that have a smaller niche following like the focus ST and renault R26/27. I know GTI's tend to hold their value really well. Single make sports cars that have no road car equivalents (e.g. Nissan 350Z, Honda S2000, RX-8) are less similar i think, because there is no alternative. Thanks for all your help!!

I can pay full cash for cars not more than 30k so wondering if it is wise to buy such cars at maybe about 2-3k above scrap value then scrap it at 5th year. Some folks tell me that the maintenance will be high. I'm basing on cars which will only depreciate about 4k from 3-4 year to 5th year. Any advice?

Hi Bros, I was looking around SgCarMart & noticed the Hyundai Sonata's depreciation is lower than a Vios/Avante! Given the choice, which car will you choose? Any particular reason why the Sonata is not in demand? http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...505&DL=1047 http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...303&DL=1198 http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...929&DL=1257

COE $16,508 OMV $41,734 Depreciation $8,866 per year ................................................................................ ........ Based on above, I thought the scrap rebate is 85% of OMV or S$35,473/-. So shouldn't the depreciation be Purchase Price minus Scrap value divide by number of years left. In this case, it would be 6.75 years. So ( S$82,800 - S$35,473 ) Divide by 6.75 years remaining : Depreciation S$7011/-. How come the dealer say depreciation is S$8,866 per year? Am I missing something? Please help. Thks.

Hi guys, I have been driving my present car for slightly more than 3 years. Bought at $80,388 with COE of about $32,000.00. Am thinking of changing car now to a 1.8L car which cost around $76,000.00. I am quite a dimwit when it comes to calculating whether is it a suitable time to change car. What are the things i should be considering? Sorry, i know i sound hopeless. Any advice or pointers?

Any bro here can shed lights on the depreciation for a new EVO9?
-
Saw one 2011 COE Civic at $23,800. http://www.sgcarmart.com/main/info-20Xt575q-1093.html Another 2016 COE Civic at $46,800. http://www.sgcarmart.com/main/info-20CdVWa-1122.html That means the annual depreciation is around $4600 for a COE car ? I would have top up a LITTLE bit to drive a 3-5 years car with depreciation of $5K. That is $50 more per month.
