  1. I hope someone remembered to impound their passports Anyway this guy made / scammed millions but got fined $60k ... sup sup sui. After the jail term, he can still live comfortably in retirement.
  2. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_697331.html Mindef should spell out NS deferment criteria DR PATRICK Tan's deferment of his national service (NS) for 12 years ('Patrick Tan on his medical studies'; last Saturday) brings to mind the stories of many other talented Singaporeans who were not allowed to defer their NS. Some are talented musicians, sportsmen or artists who have qualified for prestigious schools or have trained hard enough to don national colours for competitions. The Ministry of Defence's (Mindef) stock reply is that national servicemen are granted deferment only in rare and exceptional cases. After reading Dr Tan's clarification, I cannot help but ask what the thus far unspecified criteria are that would allow for discretionary deferment. Dr Tan's case suggests to me that budding musicians, artists or sportsmen are deemed less important than future doctors or scientists. If Singapore is to be vibrant and enriching, talented citizens in any field should be supported. What are the necessary conditions for deferment? Mindef's transparency will set the record straight and help in future appeals. Lim Guay Cheng (Ms)
  3. Hi guys, anyone of u managed to defer ur reservist due to new employment? i juz join this company in july, have a ICT this sept. tried to defer but was rejected.....very upset abt this matter as MINDEF actually give us 3 mths to settle down in a new job yet they reject me. not sure if this is double standard from MINDEF.
  4. Well so SAF decided i shouldn't enjoy at least a year of civillian life before forcing me to wear green again. I'm currently holding an 8-5 job with night classes every week for my bachelor's course but my ICT deferment got rejected. Is it worth appealing? I'm sure many of you would advise me to go and not miss any of my ICT but i don't see the point of paying $19k for my studies just to skip classes (and exams) go back, slap on my medic armband and pretend that life is good while walking long distances with a backbreaking fieldpack and not to mention that darn stretcher and MOP; of which i was just doing the same thing last year. I'm just starting out a new job and concentrating my studies and now i have to put them on hold for my active unit. As you can imagine i'm feeling a lil' frustrated after serving my mandatory 2 years in a "chiong-sua" and now my life is disrputed again. Hope to hear any advice from you uncles and experienced personnel. I'm not looking for avenues to "chao-keng" lah, just want to know what are my options.
