From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1236698/1/.html SAF uses technology to counter lower birth rate & ageing population By Imelda Saad | Posted: 12 November 2012 1429 hrs SINGAPORE: The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has been affected by Singapore's declining birth rates and ageing population. National Service (NS) enlistees are drawn from eligible male Singapore citizens and permanent residents. In a reply to Parliament, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said in the 1990s, about 15,000 NS men were enlisted into the SAF each year. From the year 2000, Singapore experienced higher numbers as children given birth by cohorts of baby-boomers came of enlistment age, including those born in the 1988 Dragon year. As a result, SAF enlistments increased and reached a peak of about 21,000 in 2011. But going forward, due to an ageing population and declining fertility trends, SAF enlistments are expected to gradually taper and revert to levels in the 1990s, of about 15,000 each year. But even with these enlistment numbers, Dr Ng said Singapore's long-term projections till 2040 indicate that the SAF will still be able to mobilise about 300,000 soldiers from regulars, full time national servicemen (NSFs) and operationally ready NS men (ORNS), if needed. Dr Ng added the SAF has taken into account its manpower requirements over the long term through its transformation towards a 3rd-generation SAF. That is, through advances in technology and with more effective systems and platforms, which require fewer men to operate. Dr Ng said: "Beyond investing in technologically advanced platforms, we also leverage technology to network our platforms together to provide us greater synergy in training and operations. "So one example is the recently inaugurated community for command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence. Another important factor driving up the overall capability and productivity of the SAF lies in the rising quality of our servicemen." "As a whole, the higher quality of our NS men combined with the advanced platforms and effective use of technology to network our systems, will ensure that the SAF continues to be an effective military force and a strong deterrent against any aggression," he added. - CNA/xq

Pentagon first public photo of its 6th gen invisible fighter. DOD spokesman did not provide any further detail about who is the contractor nor the test pilot's name. Rumour claims it is designed to counter China's first stealth fighter, the J20, which pictures was apparently leaked in Dec 2010.

Hi administrators, in the old forum, there used to be an indication on whether each sub forum had new posts and new topics added. Is there somewhere on this new forum where we can see that info? Was wondering because it would be less meaningful to enter a sub forum when no new topics have been posted since the last visit.

It is actually found in ST Forum which i tot Pro-Annuity. It seem like all are against it. http://www.straitstimes.com/ST%2BForum/Sto...ory_153046.html Rethink proposal for compulsory annuity ON THE proposed compulsory annuity, I would strongly urge the Government not to cross the fine line on CPF policy, so as to preserve Singaporeans' trust and faith. Like most Singaporeans, I have always regarded CPF money as my retirement nest egg and even if I could not touch this hard-earned money locked up in CPF by the Government until age 67, the money is still rightfully mine and should be disbursed to my next-of-kin when I die. But if the Government forces me to part with my money to buy an annuity which starts paying only at age 85 and the remaining money is not given back to my heir when I die, then I would view this as a very serious breach and abuse of my trust in the CPF system. Please take into consideration the intense feelings we have against mandatory measures like a compulsory annuity scheme. It is a double whammy: money is taken away from us without giving us a choice, and there is no refund to my family when I die. I don't think people will accept this. Dr Lim Boon Hee Some of the comments: Did $36 buy one a coffin lid in 1957? Can $360 buy one a coffin lid in 2007? Will the $3600 buy one a coffin lid in 2037? Also can we ask: Did $36 buy one 10 nights of hospital beds in 1957? Can $360 buy one 10 nights of hospital beds in 2007? Will the $3600 buy one 10 nights of hospital beds in 2037? Govt officials reading, please tell this to the MM. We don't want $3600 in cash 35 years later. We want it in kind as cash $3600 is next to worthless 35 years later.

Some expert opinions needed here. Someone has claimed my insurance few days ago for an accident that has never happen. Already went to IDAC to took a pic of my car's front right that has supposed to "Hit" his rear left six months ago. My car's front right has been the same original condition for the past one year and I wasn't even at the place of "accident" mentioned at that time lol. The case will be in my favour according to the claim officer but does anyone knows if we have any legal recourse over such lying and wasting of my time/effort? Or can only LL? Thanks in advance.

All MCFers, I start this thread anew bcos I want to hv a focused discussion. Think many of us had enuf of Sh$t from these arse-hols. Tinted windows, unstamped passports, etc etc. Now what can we do. How about installing some camera device in our cars or such to video some of their actions with audio conversation. And then post them worldwide.
