This recruit failed miserably as he gave himself up so easily. He will not survive a day in POW training. Mindef so clever never say what is so wrong about maid carrying his bag during off duty period. Just say be mindful of conduct in public. Since this NSF was not given extra duty, it would suggest that there is nothing lawfully or regimentally worng with the maid carrying the bag. THE Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has completed its investigation into the recent case of a serviceman who was photographed with his domestic helper carrying his field pack ('Deafening silence in army backpack saga' by Mr Patrick Tan; last Saturday). The serviceman concerned has identified himself to his commander. He was a recruit undergoing the Physical Training Preparatory phase prior to the Basic Military Training phase. The recruit is remorseful for his actions and realises that it was wrong for him to have allowed this. He has been counselled and continues his training. The SAF has reminded all servicemen to be mindful of their conduct in public. Colonel Desmond Tan Director, Public Affairs Ministry of Defence The full-time national serviceman (NSF) in the photograph has owned up, concluding the Singapore Armed Forces' (SAF) investigation into the matter. The Ministry of Defence's (Mindef) director of public affairs. Colonel Desmond Tan, revealed in a statement yesterday that the NSF had identified himself to his commander. Col Tan indicated in the letter sent to the media that the NSF 'was a recruit undergoing the Physical Training Preparatory (PTP) phase prior to the Basic Military Training (BMT) phase". PTP is an eight-week programme that less-fit conscripts have to undergo before BMT. my paper understands from sources that when the news of the photograph broke on March 28, the NSF's parents were livid. The family did not expect the photograph taken of the NSF to be blown out of proportion. The NSF, who has at least one older sibling, was apparently unsure about what to do, and was afraid of the consequences he might face if he was identified as the person in the photograph.
