  1. Hi Everyone; BEWARE of this shop! Lian Kiat Alloy Tyre & Battery Center along Jalan Jurong Kechil. Recently I was duped and conned by this dishonest shop owner in his 60's. He charged me $950 for 4 Falken Tyres whereby the usual price is around $440. You may ask why I paid so much without comparing prices. The reason was that I had done some tyres change at this place and found him to be decent and therefore I let my guard down the last time thinking that he would be honest as usual. Also I realized his tricks are to act innocent, speak very fast and mumble to himself; he will unscrew and take out your old tyres and then he will tell you there is no stock and recommend you some brands made in China. You will get very frustrated waiting for him to get his tyres from elsewhere and you are at his mercy as you cannot drive away without the tyres. I went back to ask his why over-charged me by more than $500 and he told me all kinds of stories saying COE and house prices have gone up. I told him this does not give him the right to overcharge by 200%. He said it was a done deal as it was done willingly by both parties. Hope no one get conned by him again!
  2. cannot imagine this is happening the news reported that the two women told the cleaner that he owe 'govt' money and took all his monthly salary $2000 and left $50 for his meals. i hope the old woman pay back (maybe in jail term) for what she did for past 15 years.
  3. Last week I decided to sell all of my camera gear as I just couldn’t find the time to use it regularly. Here I had almost $3,500/- worth of camera and lenses that was just sitting in its dry cabinet. So I wrote a nice little description about the gear and posted to ebay, HWZ and gumtree. A couple of days later, I get a reply for the ad posted on gumtree. Buyer communicates via email asking for best price so that she can gift the camera to her brother in Malaysia. So I make her an offer, we negotiate and settle on a price. Now I buy a lot of new stuff online. But when I buy or sell second hand stuff, I prefer to deal with people here in SG as its easier to meet and you know who/what you’re dealing with. Now the girl says she’s on assignment outside of the country and that she will pay via paypal collect. Hmmm…. I have to raise a paypal invoice and money will be credited to my paypal account. Hmmm… I’m not happy about this but still, I only have to spend a couple of minutes creating a paypal invoice so what the heck! I did it and emailed her the invoice. Busy over the weekend so I read her reply only this morning. In it, she says that she has completed the payment and that I should send the tracking number so paypal can complete the transfer. [me: wait… what? I have to send my stuff and then paypal will transfer? uh uh] She also says she sent the funds to paypal account (prabhjot something@gmail) and that paypal’s service message might be in my inbox or spam folder [me: hmmm… who the fck is prabjot whatever? And why the fck should paypal messages be in my spam folder?] I check the spam folder and lo and behold, there’s a message with the email alias “[email protected]” [me: wtf? I pay for stuff using paypal and I’ve always got the messages in my inbox. Now its in spam. Doesn’t smell right] And then I notice the actual email ID used in sending the message. “[email protected]” [me: haha. Now why the fck would paypal use accountant.com domain to send messages] Lol, they even have a small "how do you know this is not a fake email" disclaimer :D So I google the email ID pp_service and sure enough, plenty of hits about people being conned out of their stuff by peeps in MY. The MO and address is the same; 1) reply to personal ads (mostly camera’s) on ebay/gumtree (seems gumtree being abused more) 2) try some token negotiation to instil confidence 3) get seller to send paypal invoice and promise to pay to paypal account for both the item and the shipping cost 4) send a bogus email claiming funds will be credited once paypal verifies evidence of shipment 5) disappear So guys beware when peddling/buying stuff online. Just for laugh, I sent this reply to "Kim" this morning;

He already bought some previously so tot of buy a little bit more. It was priced at $1 per 100g. He took about 500g (est) and went to the counter for payment. The guy told him to choose another 5 pcs, FOC. When he turn his head to take another 5 pcs. The counter guy grabbed many pcs and put inside his plastic bag. When asked tat guy, he say he is giving 200g FOC. Then he weighed and told my fren $20! My fren say he dun wan so many and asked the counter guy to put back but that guy insisted its not a lot. 6. http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...214-252721.html Fri, Dec 17, 2010 The New Paper By Desmond Ng TALK about a speedy exit. A luxury car rental business here has closed its shutters after just about two months into the business. 6Speed - which offered high performance supercars like the Lamborghini Murcielago and Ferrari F430 for rent for as much as $4,500 a day - has ceased its operations. It had launched its business with a party at Timbre @ The Arts House in October. When The New Paper visited its office at Loyang Drive yesterday, the company's signage was no longer there. Its fleet of flashy supercars was also nowhere to be seen. The business had previously rented the premises from vehicle service centre Exquisite Marques, which also operates from that workshop. An Exquisite Marques employee there said 6Speed had vacated the place a few weeks ago. 6Speed sales director Denny Koh could not be reached despite calls to his mobile phone. He also did not respond to our text messages. The company's telephone number was also not in use. A search with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority showed the business as a "live company" and listed a Mr Charlton Goh as sole proprietor. Our searches showed that Mr Goh is a discharged bankrupt. In an interview with The New Paper last month, Mr Koh said that the company had about 120 members who paid between $10,000 and $50,000 for packages to gain access to 6Speed's fleet of 15 cars. This included a BMW 320i convertible, a Porsche 911 C4S and the top-of-the-range Lamborghini Murcielago. About half its fleet is rented out every weekend, he said then. The New Paper understands that a used car dealer had repossessed six of 6Speed's cars because of defaulted loans. Exotic car rental is considered a niche business because of the high up-front costs of buying and maintaining such supercars. Then there are the insurance costs. The annual insurance for such cars is about $20,000 a year, compared to about $1,000 for a family sedan. This is why only a handful of companies here offer rentals of high-performance marques such as Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis. In the previous interview, Mr Koh said that about 80 per cent of his clients were locals. One other car rental company said that four of 6Speed's previous customers called them last week, saying that they had each paid deposits to rent cars from 6Speed. A staff member at the rental company, who declined to be named, said: "Some of their clients called us for help in locating the other firm, saying that they've already paid their deposits to rent the car. And now, they're left in the lurch with no cars. "That's when we found out that they (6Speed) could possibly have ceased operations."

  9. Just wanna share with you guys that my colleague experience buying 2nd hand car. Recently about 2 months back, he bought a 2nd hand Camry from a 2nd hand dealer. It was SGB plate, the mileage was about 40K. Dealer claim accident free. My colleague actually went to Borneo motors last week to check whether when was the last servicing done and realised that his car went back to Borneo the last time is for a windscreen replacement and the mileage clocked was then over 70K. I noticed that the bonnet of the car was also resprayed, the paint work finishing wasn't the same as the rest of the car body. Even now they can adjust the Odometer?
