  1. Hi all I'm wondering if there is a set of components which can: 1) cover 50hz-20khz, ie decent low bass 2) high efficiency >90db/w 3) doesn't require amps to drive 4) sounds musical Assume for now, that there isn't a price limit. Is there such a set of components, or this just doesn't exist? Any recommendations that I can listen to before buying? I don't like to purchase what I haven't heard because music is very subjective.
  2. Any user comments or those who had done a comparision before? Which giives a better overall sound? Price of these 2 sets are similar.
  3. Wonder if anyone has experience with these 2 components speaker 6.5inch which I saw from Autobacs. Blaupunkt GT 65.2c (blue cone) vs Pioneer TS-1720c. The environment over at Autobacs is rather noisy, so it is difficult to determine which set give better meaty sound. Also they have a few testing area where different amplifier is hook up, so setup is not same for fair comparison. Somehow I thought the sound from Blaupunkt GT65.2c is reasonably good but seems nobody uses it. Is the brand not popular or really lousy? I intend to hook up with a power amp 70w x4. Any comments?
  4. Have you ever try cleaning spark plugs, MAF, carburators or bolt and nuts etc using a low cost ultrasonic cleaner. If you have pl share yr experience.
  5. Even before tuning, we also have to pick the appropriate equipment to suit the genre of music we like and listen to. I would like to find out what pairing is good and decent for the genre of music you listen to. For example, I am running on MBQuarts PCE216. I find that its more towards SQ. Its tuned towards instrumental and vocals with decent punch if required, as some of the friends here have audited it can testify. Its not the best out there, but it suited towards my musical taste. Running on Diamond D3 open air subs that give me a warm mellow and musical effect. Its still running in so I will be retuning it once its all set and done. So all said and done.... What would be decent for genres like... 1) R&B 2) Trance, House, Dance 3) Rock 4) Pop 5) Vocals 6) Orchestra/Musicals ... and the list goes on. With that, I think a lot of the newbies here would know what to look out for when purchasing brand new or 2nd hand equipment to suit their taste in music. Thanks for your sharing guys and gals!

  7. Heard the default speakers in the Integra GSR is pretty bad, so thinking of the kit below. What do you think? Other suggestions? 1) PHD MF 6.2 Kit 2) PHD 4075 4 channel amp 60 to 81W x 4 (4 ohms) Can consider adding a sub later with this amp. Website of phd: www.phd.it Anyone tried this shop Audioedge at 102 Jalan Jurong Kechil? www.audioedge.com.sg
  8. Hey folks... need your advice on this... I just bought a set of CDT CL-62 at a pretty popular audio shop in Toa payoh this afternoon. However, after hearing all the SLT stories here, I decided to check out the set being installed in my car. I got very suspicious when I realised the box set for my CDT does not have an serial number. Also, the manuals and warranty cards look like those printed from home colour printer. Very amatuerish, very fake looking. As it was already halfway throught installation, I decided not to ask so much. Also, after talking to the shop owner, he said that his shop has got clean record in the market, which I'm not disputing. Heard many bros recommending that shop on the net. Anyway, just want to ask: 1) Are there known 'chiong' CDTs around? 2) Are all manuals and warranty cards printed in amatuerish way? I even spotted several spelling errors on it! 3) Do CDT component speakers have serial numbers on them for warranty purposes? Would appreciate if all bros can help verify... thanks!
  9. Looks like some of you out there are familiar with getting individual components separately in a front component set, and either running it active or with your existing passive crossover facilities. Could someone help start me off - what are some brands and models to look out for? In terms of cost, do you think you can achieve the same quality (i suppose we're all looking for high quality) of sound from commercial sets at a lower price, or it probably would end up higher? Buying individually skips paying for the passive cross, so I suppose there are small savings in this department? But the downside is if u're running passive, ur cross has to tailor to the speaker characteristics, so that means spending $ again. Do you think there are differences in fundamental design of home drivers compared to car drivers? the dispersion characteristics etc, the way they design for close-up listening in a car as compared to sitting a few metres away in a home? I've heard prices of a good-sounding 3-way system, I believe it might be Dynaudio, going for something like $1300-1400. I wonder if assembling a set myself would cost so much for a similar sound ...

  11. Planning to upgrade my current component to a better one. Currently having Alpine 9815 and running active with an Audison LrX4.300 (65W RMS/channel). Looking to upgrade to a better component around the 600-700 range inclusive of installation. All the experts here, what is your recommendation? So far I have looked at the PHD FB 6.1Pro, Dynaudio 240 GT, Focal K2P 165 and Utopia 165W. My music genre is jazz, new age, vocal and pop. Waiting for some comments from expert!

  18. I know many people has experience with CDT speakers. I am interested in getting HD-62EF, which is a HD series with Euro Frame for 199 USD. Is this a good price? 199USD = 350SGD What other series do you recommend? If I go for classic series, it'll be only around 150USD. I read that someone can get 6.5" component ES series for 600+ SGD. I am very interested... If it is the 2004 model.
  19. Hi, Read from the Toyota forum that by improving the earthing/grounding of various components in the engine compartment (by linking them using audio DC cables to the -ve pole of the car battery), gives various improvements to the performance of the car, like improved torque from idling up or mid range (cant recall), better idling, cleaner exhaust emission, etc, I wonder if this has been proven and if there are any short/long term negative effects, apparently, one of the forum-ers has done it, posted some pics too, he got the idea & instructions from some jap sites, thanks for replying
