From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_801783.html VETERAN CUSTOMER'S REACTION TO CEO'S SPEECH SIA has become complacent Published on May 23, 2012 AS A longstanding customer and top-tier frequent flier member of Singapore Airlines' loyalty programme, I think SIA's problems stem from its senior management's disconnect with its customers' needs ('SIA still great but can be better, says CEO'; last Friday). Because SIA was voted the world's best airline for many years, its senior managers have become complacent. In reducing costs (and therefore service levels) to improve margins, SIA was caught off guard by other carriers which improved their service. Some areas where there has been a clear deterioration in SIA's standards:

April 29, 2008 Thailand to sell its entire rice stockpile: PM BANGKOK - THAILAND'S premier said on Tuesday the country would sell all of its 2.1 million tonnes of stockpiled rice at a cut price to relieve shortages and try to curb soaring domestic prices of the staple grain. Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej said his cabinet on Tuesday approved the plan to gradually sell off the rice stockpile in five-kilogramme bags for 170 baht (S$6.80) each. A bag of Jasmine rice currently costs more than 200 baht. 'This is aimed at relieving the current rice situation,' Mr Samak said. 'Money from the sales will be spent on purchasing new rice to replace the stockpiles.' World rice prices have soared this year, a trend blamed on higher energy and fertiliser costs, greater global demand, droughts, the loss of rice farmland to biofuel plantations, and price speculation. Thailand is the world's top exporter of rice, and international demand for its staple grain has soared after other top exporters Vietnam and India imposed limits on shipping rice overseas to ensure domestic supply. The benchmark Thai variety, Pathumthani fragrant rice, was priced last Wednesday at 998 dollars per tonne for export, up from 512 dollars a tonne in January this year, the Thai Rice Exporters Association said in a price survey. Domestic prices have followed a similar trend. Thailand, which shipped an estimated 9.5 million tonnes of rice overseas last year, has been at pains to convince the world that it has no plans to curb supplies. -- AFP http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_232334.html so complacent... neber take opportunity to blame on oil, on gold, on global problem, on every mother son, and just up the price then throw in a few cts discount to the poorest of poor just to pacify their population. haiz.. how can so complacent... when got chance to make more. then can up his pay at same time.

April 9, 2008 JI DETAINEE'S ESCAPE Govt has to take some responsibility too I REFER to last Saturday's article 'Guards were negligent, says MM'. Like MM Lee, I very much agree that the Government is not to be blamed for the escape of Mas Selamat Kastari. The good track record of the Singapore Government should not be diminished by this unfortunate incident. However, there should be some level of accountability by the Home Affairs Ministry and not only by the guards who were in charge of the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) detainee who had once planned to crash a plane into Changi Airport. The ministry had a role to play in ensuring all this did not happen in the first place. But none of the statements from the ministry suggested that it was apologetic over the incident and there was no admission that there could have been an oversight on its part. Ironically, an Insight report in The Straits Times on the same day cited Dr Michael Benoliel, an associate professor of organisational behaviour at the Singapore Management University, as saying 'All the great corporations collapsed because they underestimated the competition'. Is it fair that accountability lies only with certain strata of staff members of a corporation? Let us all ponder this since we have often compared our Government to a large corporation. Mohd Rashed Badarudin http://www.straitstimes.com/ST%2BFor...ry_225194.html the all peasants god what is responsibility it's not even in the L337 dictionary... how can peasants get.
