  1. Finally, a respite from the SUV assault. And what a break! In our latest video review, we test the latest G20 BMW 3 series! As it turns out, the car comes with BMW's latest Comfort Access 2.0, and, as you can clearly see from the pictures, it leaves both out hosts mighty pleased! (What kids 🤪) On the interior, the car also sports Julian's favorite feature... a remote charging point! We test boot space with our patented aunty trolly... and it seems like something has Julian troubled? But of course, the whole point of the 3 series is its sporty and engaging drive. Those with keen eyes will note that the car is already wet from the rain, so guess what happens when we take the BMW out! Watch the full video here to see what shenanigans our presenters get up to!
  2. Hi everyone, My 70 yr old mum is finding it harder to park her car and is looking to downsize (Camry right now). I know some VAG cars have auto parking functions, and so does the new Pug 308. Do I have any other choices to look at? I find it hard to find out from the spec/ feature lists in sgcarmart.... Only looking at sub-Camry sized sedan (she hates hatches) like the Jetta. Thanks guys.
  3. Mitsubishi Motors has revealed the first official photo and initial details of the brand new Attrage compact sedan. The car is the production version of the G4 concept which was displayed at the 2013 Bangkok Motor Show. Mitsubishi said the name 'Attrage' is derived from the word 'attractive'. Mitsubishi claims that the Attrage will deliver 'driving pleasure thanks to agility and pleasing driving dynamics'. Powering the Attrage is a 1.2-litre 3A92 three-cylinder MIVEC unit which churns out 76bhp at 6,000rpm and 100Nm at 4,000rpm. The engine is mated to a choice of CVT or five-speed manual transmission as standard. Based on the Mirage hatchback, the compact sedan measures only 4,095mm, which is about 300mm shorter than its close rival, the Toyota Vios. There are no interior photos of the new sedan at the moment but Mitsubishi says that the car offers generous rear seat legroom. The new model will be launched in Thailand come July 2013.
  4. Soon after the official release of the 2014 Mazda3 hatchback, a photo of the sedan form has been leaked. The photo shows the D-pillar of the new Mazda3 sedan. While the authenticity of the photo cannot be confirmed, it looked quite realistic. The taillight design is similar to the hatchback's although slight modifications can be observed upon close inspection. The boot lid spoiler adds a sporty touch to the compact sedan. Engine choices should be identical to those of the hatchback. They include a 1.5-litre SKYACTIV-G with 99bhp; a 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G with outputs of 118bhp/155bhp/162bhp depending on market; a 2.5-litre SKYACTIV-G with 184bhp and a 2.2-litre SKYACTIV-D with 148bhp. The lightweight and highly rigid SKYACTIV-BODY increases rigidity by approximately 30 percent as compared to the outgoing model, with a dual brace structure that suppresses body deformation when cornering. The aerodynamic body achieves a drag coefficient of 0.275 for the hatchback (below) and 0.255 for the sedan. The Hiroshima-based carmaker conveyed that the MazdaSpeed3 is under development and the sedan's debut is not far away.
  5. A few days after Mitsubishi showed an official photo of the new Attrage, the brochure of the new model has leaked onto the internet. As the compact sedan will be produced at Mitsubishi Motors Thailand's factory at the Laem Chabang plant, the brochure is printed in Thai. However, we can still make some sense out of it. The Attrage will be available in three trims, namely the GLX, GLS and the top-end GLS Ltd. The GLS models will be equipped with twin airbags while the GLX makes do with just a driver's airbag. The GLS Ltd variant will get a Start/Stop button, reverse camera and MP3/DVD/Bluetooth function. The buyer can choose from six different body colours. Mitsubishi claims that the attrage can achieve a fuel consumption figure of 22km/L, which is superior to its rivals, the Nissan Almera and Honda Amaze. The car is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MIVEC engine which is good for 78bhp and 100Nm of torque. Transmission options include CVT and a five-speed manual.
  6. After much anticipation, the all new Audi A3 sedan has made its world premiere at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. The A3 sedan replaces the A4 as the new entry level sedan for the German brand. The A3 sedan is designed to ward off competition from the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and the upcoming BMW 1 Series sedan. The styling is very typical of Audi and one would not mistake it for any other makes. The baby Audi sedan measures 4,460mm long and 1,800mm wide with a wheelbase of 2,640mm. This makes the car shorter but wider than class competitor, the CLA. Base engine is a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol with 140bhp and 250Nm of torque. 0-100km/h is performed in a brisk 8.4 seconds while it sips fuel at 4.7L/100km. Range topper for the petrol version at the moment is a 1.8-litre TFSI with 180bhp and 250Nm of torque that allows the car to complete a century sprint in a timing of 7.3 seconds. Transmission options include a six-speed manual or seven-speed S-Tronic gearbox. A high performance S3 version that runs a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 296bhp is said to be in the pipeline. Although the spiritual successor of the Audi 80 is the A4, the A4 has grown so much that it is close to the size of the last Audi 100 that we have. Customers looking for a true compact, well built German sedan can now rejoice with the arrival of the A3 sedan.
  7. Toyota has released the third generation Toyota Vios at the Bangkok Motor Show. The compact budget sedan wears the brand's new corporate face as seen in newer models such as the RAV4. The higher-end variants are equipped with projector head lamps. Measuring 4,410mm long, 1,700mm wide and 1,475mm tall, the new Vios is a good 110mm longer than its predecessor. If my memory served me correctly, the new car is even longer than the last made-in-Japan Corolla we had in Singapore. Sad to say, the new Vios still uses the same 1.5-litre 1NZ-FE engine producing exactly the same 109bhp and 141Nm of torque as before. The engine is mated to, as you would have guessed, an optional four-speed automatic transmission. A five-speed manual is standard. The power train seemed to have remained the same since the first generation Vios. On the inside, the new Vios gets a four-speaker audio system with MP3/USB/AUX connectivity. The instrument panel has moved from the center to right, right in front of the driver, and has a sporty binocular design.
  8. [extract] The first generation Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan was launched in 2008 and the facelift version was presented at the 2012 Busan Motor Show. Hence, it is timely that General Motors begins the development of the second generation model. For the first time, the Cruze
  9. [extract] Skoda has released initial details and photos for their all-new Rapid compact sedan that sits between the Fabia and the Octavia models. The new model was conceptualized by the MissionL concept at last year
  10. Skoda's new compact sedan, the Rapid, has been caught naked on the Nurburgring with testers pushing the car to the limit. The crucial new model will slot into the Czech automaker's global portfolio between the Fabia and Octavia, and will play a lead role in its ambitious plans to almost double global sales by 2018. Based on the MissionL design concept and looking like a downsized Octavia, the car is expected to compete against the likes of the Mazda3 and Ford Focus. It is likely that the car will be built on a stretched Volkswagen Polo underpinnings rather than the larger Golf platform. You may ask if the Rapid will cannibalize on the sales of the Octavia. That is the question on my mind too. According to Matthew Wiesner, Director of Skoda Australia, the company planned to grow the Octavia into a true medium-size car to better take on the likes of the Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen Passat. But does that mean Skoda will upsize the Superb or do away with the nameplate? No one has that answer now. The new Rapid will be revealed this summer with its world premiere to take place at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September before it goes on sale across Europe this fall. Other parts of the world would get it in 2013. Expect the car to be powered by a range of 1.2-litre to 1.4-litre TSI engines with DSG transmission. MissionL Concept
  11. Chrysler announced that it would bring back the Dart nameplate for Dodge's first compact sedan since the Neon was phased out in 2005. The company is planning a slow reveal, with snippets of the four-door's exterior and interior trickling out between now and the vehicle's full unveil at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. Chrysler said that the 2013 Dodge Dart was adapted from the award-winning Alfa Romeo Giulietta. Kristin Starnes, a Dodge spokeswoman, said in a telephone interview that the Dart would be longer and wider than the Giulietta, and that it would be a four-door sedan rather than a four-door hatchback. Though output levels were not disclosed, Chrysler announced that the Dart would be available with three different power plants from Fiat, the corporate parent of Chrysler and Alfa. These engines are a 16-valve 2-litre four-cylinder, a 16-valve 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with Fiat's MultiAir valve-throttling system; and a 16-valve 2.4-litre four-cylinder with MultiAir. The Fiat 1.4-litre MultiAir is shared with the Fiat 500 and If the Fiat 500 Abarth is any indication, that means we're looking at somewhere around 160bhp. Such output would be good enough to challenge the Jetta Sport. Three transmissions would be offered, although details are still murky at the moment. However, I believe that the dual clutch transmission developed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies could be one possibility. Chrysler says that 68% of the vehicle's architecture is comprised of high-strength steel, which means the 2013 Dart should retain much of the rigidity that made the Giulietta. The dart is supported by four-wheel independent suspension with optional 18-inch wheels. With the Dart, Dodge will be entering the royal rumble consisting of the Cruze, Civic, Jetta, Focus and many more.
  12. When the latest BMW 5 series dropped its cover in recent months, everyone was raving about how it looks much better than the previous model, how its better equipped, more fuel efficient and the list goes on. However, that's just the beginning. Because this is what the new 3 series will probably look like, and I must say, it looks pretty good. Underneath the bold, masculine lines along the side panels and that aggressive looking hood which kind of reminds me of the previous 5 series, lies a whole range of new engines and more efficient 3 cylinder units. The cabin even has integrated wifi! This is set to be the most advanced 3 series BMW has ever built. So as you can see, the new stuff in the 5 series wasn't just a flash in the pan, BMW are set to revamp their interior equipment on the smaller model as well. In terms of the way it looks, its a whole lot better than the previous model which was rather 'safe' and boring due to the sheer extent of criticism that the 5 series had to take, the 3 series suffered in terms of style. However, the new model doesn't look shy or conservative. It looks bold and sharp, especially with those enlarged kidney grilles. Under the bonnet, making its debut will be a 1.5l three cylinder petrol engine boosted with turbo chargers and its going to produce roughly 150bhp which is rather remarkable for an engine of that capacity. There will also be stop-start energy recuperation thanks to BMW's EfficientDynamics system which will save fuel and keep our wallets heavier for longer. What I really like the most about this new 3 Series is the integrated Wifi system. This allows the driver to have up to the minute traffic information from the internet, which will save time by avoiding traffic jams and the usual congestion's that plague most Singaporean motorists. The new BMW will be released early 2011. So will the new BMW 3 Series be a winner? I have absolutely no doubt about it.
  13. I read about the Mazda 2 sedan about 2 years ago. The sexy coupe-like 4-door sedan was unveiled at the 2007 Guangzhou Motor Show, and was built and sold in China by Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co Ltd. At that time, there was no news on whether the car would be sold outside China. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out from The Straits Times that this compact sedan will be making its debut in Singapore some time in March 2010. This will be the first Mazda in Singapore that is sourced from the land of thousand smiles. From an aesthetic point of view, the Mazda 2 sedan certainly has one up against its closest rival, the Toyota Vios. The 2's body contour is smooth and athletic whereas the Toyota gives the impression of a teen who swallowed too much candies. Mazda's designers managed to perfect the art of adding a boot to a hatchback and my view is that it is better looking than its cousin, the Ford Fiesta sedan. At 4,270(L) x 1,695(W) x 1,480(H), the Mazda sedan is slightly shorter but much wider than the Vios. This should translate to better handling characteristics in Mazda. Expect the Mazda 2 sedan to be powered by the 1.5L VVT unit that is currently serving the hatchback version. Gearbox is a conventional 4 speed automatic. Nothing fancy about the drivetrain but the Vios none better. My only wish is that the hatch's rear drum brake gets replaced with disc brake in the sedan form.
