  1. TL;DR - Mazda 5 driver’s failure to obey traffic rules sent a pedestrian flying at Yuan Ching Road. This Mazda driver definitely lives up to the standard of being a ‘kiasu’ Singaporean. Watch this to see what I mean. What Happened? A (dramatic) footage surfaced on SGRV of a Mazda driver knocking down a pedestrian and sending him in the air at Yuan Ching Road. The traffic light was green for pedestrian crossing (with a significant number of seconds left) when a Mazda 5 driver decided to still drive across, thinking he could out-beat the pedestrian. Unfortunately, he did not. And this ‘kiasu’ mistake resulted in the pedestrian getting banged. The young pedestrian was cartwheeled into the air from the impact, hitting his head on the concrete as he slammed into the ground. Online Chatter As much as everyone is ‘shitting’ on the Mazda driver, some also attacked the SBS bus for dashing off and the poor victim for not being careful when crossing the road (even though it was his right of way). Oh well, it seems like everyone is at fault, one way or another. So hard to please the people. Nonetheless, wishing the pedestrian a speedy recovery. And for all road users out there, please keep your eyes on the road, regardless if you’re driving or walking. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 2. TL;DR - Double whammy as a BMW X6 crashes into building before taking out nearby pedestrians at Jalan Besar At this point, it’s not safe to be anywhere. Even on pavements, there’s a risk that a pedestrian gets hit by vehicles. Here's an example. Watch this 89-second clip of the crash. What happened? The driver of the BMW X6 lost control of the car and went head on into the building (right beside Hotel 81…) at Jalan Besar. He also took out the Mayo Street road sign. Hello LTA? If you look closely enough (at the first three seconds), there was a male pedestrian wearing white who seemed like he got caught in between as the car literally rammed towards his direction. Hope he’s okay... Online Chatter The comments were pretty brutal, everyone seems to be putting the blame on the driver. Which makes sense but of course, we shouldn’t be too quick to judge since we do not know the full story. He seemed fine (and weirdly calm) though since he was able to get out of the car without assistance and strolled to the other side. Some sharp-eyed netizens noticed the striking white and blue Hotel 81 signboard just beside the Cheers convenience store the driver crashed into. Oooh steamy...? I mean the car as it got busted. 3. TL;DR - Reckless Lancer driver speeds, loses control and crashes into barricades upon skidding along Keppel Viaduct. Watch this 51-second video to see the dramatic skid. So what happened? On a rainy day, this Lancer was caught speeding and overtaking another vehicle along Keppel Viaduct. After it overtook the car, the driver somehow lost vehicle traction, which caused the Lancer to crash on the left side’s concrete barrier. This was not all, the vehicle spun and slammed into the right barricades, crashing both its front and rear ends. The video was captured by the cam car and uploaded on SGRV. Online Chatter Wet roads, bald tires or bad driving skills? This Lancer driver checked all the boxes. Takeaway It’s the monsoon season now and weather reports expect showers to continue into next week. Therefore, it is highly advisable to be extra cautious on the road. Here are some tips to stay safe: Maintain a safe distance between cars Keep to the middle lane Avoid e-braking Don’t speed Ensure tires are treaded Alternatively, you can drive like this Lancer and look like you're in a pinball machine ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 4. TL;DR - A van slammed into a double decker bus on the expressway on a wet wet night. The vehicle skidded from the first to the third lane and got T-boned by an oncoming double-decker bus. At its most basic, a 'drift' is movement of a car along some direction other than its steered trajectory, involving a slip angle at one or both axles. Watch this 44-second clip to see how the van swerved from lane 1 to lane 3. What happened? Rainy weather usually sees more accidents due to the roads being slippery and vehicles can skid a lot easier. The van driver was speeding on lane 1 when s/he lost control of the vehicle and skidded, crashing into a double decker SBS Transit bus. It doesn’t take much IQ to know that rain = wet = slippery = dangerous. The van driver could’ve caused the lives of many, especially if there were commuters on the bus. Online Chatter Why is the van even on lane 1 a.k.a the fast lane when the other lanes are pretty clear? Perhaps s/he would’ve gotten less hate if it was on lane 2 since such vehicles have a road speed limit of 70km/h. And FYI, 70km/h is not meant to be on the fast lane! Tips for all drivers If it is raining cats and dogs, it is important to slow down, use your wipers and keep to the middle lane - side lanes always experience the most water splash! Oh, also make sure your car is in good condition to weather the storm - make sure your tires are not ‘botak’! ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 5. SQ16 was accelerating for takeoff at 120km/h when a Korean Air Airbus plane KE929 unexpectedly taxied onto the runway. SQ16 did an emergency braking following instructions that were received from air traffic control, damaging its tyres. The two planes were about 1.7km apart when both came to a complete stop, SQ16's departure was delayed for about 19 hours as the plane's tyres had to be replaced. KE929, meanwhile, was diverted back to the apron and took off about two hours after the incident. Its pilots were said to have ignored earlier instructions from the air traffic controller. South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is investigating and is expected to release its report in 2 to 3 weeks. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/planes-landing-gear-damaged-during-7928326 http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/singapore-airlines-plane-in-near-collision-at-south-koreas-incheon-airport
  6. A Ferrari and an SBS Transit bus collided along Mountbatten Road on Friday night (June 26). The New Paper reader Mr Roy Lee was at home when he heard a loud bang at about 10.15pm. He said he came out to see the front of a Ferrari 456 Italia Spyder bumped up against a double decker bus. While he did not see how the accident happened, Mr Lee said the Ferrari was facing against traffic flow. Fortunately no one was hurt in the accident. A spokesman from the Singapore Civil Defence Force said two fire bikes and one ambulance were dispatched to the scene. shit. wrong section.
  7. Two subway trains collided in Seoul on Friday, injuring scores of people but with no immediate report of any fatalities, the emergency services said. "So far, we have a total of 78 injured, all of them lightly," a spokesman for the Seoul emergency services told AFP. One TV news channel put the number of injured at 170. News of the accident broke as the country was still reeling from a ferry disaster on April 16 that left around 300 dead or missing -- most of them schoolchildren -- after the boat capsized and sank. The tragedy triggered widespread public anger and a bout of national soul-searching as to whether the country had sacrificed safety standards in its rush for economic development. The details of Friday's subway accident were not immediately clear, but it appeared that one train had stopped in, or close to, Sangwangsimni station in eastern Seoul when the second train ran into its back. 8. ATHENS - Two RAF Red Arrows jets collided above the Greek island of Crete Tuesday during a training exercise, a Greek Defence Ministry official said. One pilot was injured after ejecting from his Hawk jet while the other made an emergency landing in Crete and was unhurt. "The pilot who ejected has broken his legs. He is being transferred to an Athens hospital," said the official. He said the display team had been trying out new formations but had no further details. With their trademark red, white and blue vapour trails, the Red Arrows are a familiar sight at British ceremonial occasions and international air displays. They are expected to appear at the London 2012 Olympics.
  9. Today, I ferry my sister to Suntec Tower 2. After dropping her off, I came out of the pick up/drop off point and stick to the outer ring after exiting. I was moving along in line with the speed limit there when this Golden XifeiLou came charging from the middle lane. I got horned cos he was exiting from the middle lane and was about to collide into my side. I knew I was not in the wrong but just want some confirmations. So, I asked my sister any changes to roundabout rules. My sister said that the driver should filter to the outer ring should he needs to exit and not cut into path of vehicles on the outer ring. Anyone encountered similar happening??
