  1. A Japanese publication has suggested that Toyota/Lexus may share a rear-wheel drive platform and inline-six engine with Mazda. A couple of months ago, Mazda announced that they are developing a family of straight-six Skyactiv-X engines for use in its higher-end models and these engines can be matched to a rear- and all-wheel drive drivetrain. This prompted Best Car to investigate, revealing that Toyota’s first Mazda-based model could be a successor to the Mark X sedan that sells in Japan and other ASEAN markets. Lexus could then use the same plaform for a new coupe to sit between the RC and LC in its existing line-up. While this news might seem a little far-fetched, it is definitely a possibility with an increasing number of manufacturers coming together to share common architecture and parts.

So how will the company generate excitement for its 2019 iPhones? Now we know… In a major scoop, Bloomberg has revealed Apple is working with Sony to integrate long distance 3D cameras into its next-generation iPhones. This is technology, with the potential to transform photography, security and gaming. Furthermore, the source couldn’t be better: Bloomberg spoke to Sony itself. Apple iPhone XI conceptCONCEPT CREATOR “Cameras revolutionized phones, and based on what I’ve seen, I have the same expectation for 3D [cameras],” said Satoshi Yoshihara, head of Sony’s sensor division, when speaking with Bloomberg. Bloomberg reveals Apple’s interest in incorporating the technology and Yoshihara subsequently confirmed its commercial availability. Yoshihara said Sony will have front and rear-facing 3D cameras ready in 2019 with the company “kicking off mass production in late summer to meet demand”. With Apple’s next-generation iPhones launching in September, this should make you very excited indeed. Differentiating itself from rivals, Sony’s 3D cameras use ‘Time of Flight’ technology (previously used only in industry). It sends out invisible laser pulses and measures the time before they bounce back to build detailed 3D models of objects up to five metres away.
  3. A long hiatus from my regular car filming as you might had noticed, if you had been following my YouTube channel, I haven't been working on any car related filming for quite some time. Basically I had not had a good supply of cars of interest to film, and also because I just started on video blogging for my channel. Amazingly I had the opportunity to work with an Australia mate who would collaborate with me on the shooting, while I edit / produce the final film. This is our first collaborated YouTube video.. Do check this out, great beautiful car ! https://youtu.be/V9x0B_3y4TE
  4. BMW and Boeing have signed a deal to conduct research on new ways of carbon fibre recycling and manufacturing. Carbon fibre is highly regarded as a material for the future of the aerospace and automobile industry due to its low density and high mass. Both companies have plans on the usage of carbon fibre in their upcoming products. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is made up of 50% carbon fibre while BMW's i3 and i8 electric models will feature a cabin furnished with similar materials when they are launched. Larry Schneider, Boeing Commercial Airplanes' vice-president of product development, said that the collaboration was an important step in developing the use and end use of carbon fibre materials. "It is especially important that we plan for the end of life for products made from carbon fibre. We want to look at ways to reclaim and reuse those materials to make new products," he said. The BMW logo is portrayed as the movement of an aircraft propeller with the white blades cutting through a blue sky. Hence, it is befitting to find an aircraft material being used on the German marque.
  5. Although GM and Ford are rivals in the automotive industry, these American car makers are collaborating to develop 9 to 10-speed automatic transmissions. This is not the first of their partnership though. In 2002, they cooperated to create a new automatic transaxle, designed for transverse engine applications in cars and light trucks. According to reports, GM will be in charge of designing a 9-speed gearbox for front-wheel drive cars while Ford will take the lead in developing a 10-speed transmission for rear-wheel drive cars such as SUVs, performance vehicles and pick-ups. Cars with a larger number of gear selections enable the engine to operate more efficiently, thus reducing CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. GM and Ford are not alone in the quest for additional gear ratios. Hyundai is already working on a 10-speed automatic transmission that will be used on a range of Hyundai and Kia vehicles in the future, particularly luxury models. It is scheduled to hit the showroom in 2014. If the collaboration proves to be a success, GM and Ford, the world's second and fifth largest car maker respectively, will be able to enjoy great economy of scale due to the sheer volume of their annual output. According to IHS Automotive powertrain analyst, David Petrovski, GM and Ford benefit from reduced investment risk by working together. By developing their own gearbox instead of purchasing them from manufacturers such as ZF and paying license fees, a car maker can reduce their cost of production.

Toyota and BMW announced that they have reached an agreement to jointly research and develop the next generation lithium-ion batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles. Such tie-ups are not new though. In 2010, Renault-Nissan-Daimler signed a three-way alliance to boost economies of scale and share high upfront development costs in new areas such as hybrid electric engines. Details are scare at the moment but it is understood that engineers from both companies will look for ways to increase the performance and capacity of lithium-ion batteries through the use of new materials for cathodes, anodes and electrolytes. It would be interesting to see what these two brands come up with eventually in terms of electric and hybrid technologies. As part of the agreement, BMW will supply Toyota with diesel engines of 1.6L and 2.0L capacity for sale in Europe starting in 2014. This shows a change of heart for Toyota, who originally wanted to continue pushing hybrids in Europe, but has realized that the market still prefers diesel-powered vehicles. Ironically, Toyota supplied BMW with 1.6L diesel powerplants for their MINI products between 2002 and 2005.
  9. A profitable future for automakers usually relies mostly on yielding the best return from their products and technologies and at times these technologies does not come from the automaker themselves. There have been numerous partnerships between two auto firms and usually it is to exchange technologies with each other. Lately, BMW and Toyota have gone down that route. Sometime last month, BMW and Toyota held talks regarding the exchange of technologies that they excel in. Reportedly, BMW will supply their diesel engines to Toyota and in exchange, Toyota will share its hybrid technology with BMW. During the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, both companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a mid to long term collaboration on next-generation environment-friendly technologies. Toyota aims to offer its current line-up with diesel engines especially in Europe where diesel emission tests are very stringent. And also they need to find a source outside of Japan to alleviate the strength of the Yen. BMW is working hard on their i3 concept hybrid and to fund a hybrid technology development will cost a lot of money compared to buying that technology from another company, for this case, Toyota. Toyota will receive access to BMW
  10. It may be too soon to call their relationship ended, but the estranged partnership between Volkswagen and Suzuki has hit a rough patch as the German auto giant threatens to sue its Japanese partner. In 2009, VW purchased a 19.9 percent stake in Suzuki, in the hopes of creating a deeper global alliance that would give Volkswagen coverage in city cars and in emerging markets such as India. In return, Suzuki would have access to VW's parts bin, from which it could develop new vehicles to replace its existing lineup. The alliance has yielded no results, and for the past few months, the partners have been bickering behind the scenes. According to the Wall Street Journal reports, Suzuki chairman, Osamu Suzuki, wrote on the company website that Suzuki "had found nothing it wanted" from its German partner. Following recent comments from Mr Suzuki that the two companies "aren't even talking", Volkswagen Group decided to make these problems public with an official announcement. Europe's largest automotive group said that after reviewing their partnership, it found that Suzuki broke the contract agreement by purchasing diesel engines from another manufacturer. Although VW did not name the "other manufacturer", Suzuki recently made a deal with the Fiat Group to buy its diesel engines. "Volkswagen takes the view that this contradicts the terms of the cooperation agreement. Suzuki has now been given a period of several weeks to remedy the infringement," the German company said in a statement today. "Volkswagen considers this step regrettable, but necessary, and has offered to discuss the matter with Suzuki. At the same time, the company stresses it still regards Suzuki as an attractive investment," VW added. VW said that even though the cooperation is moving slower than expected, it has not yet reached a final decision.

  13. The next generation of Saab models may very well be powered by BMW engines if negotiations between the two automakers are successful. Following widespread media speculations on the matter, Spyker N.V., the parent company of the Swedish carmaker confirmed talks with BMW. Here's the official statement: "Spyker Cars N.V. ("the Group"), a holding company that owns subsidiaries which produce and sell premium automobiles under the Saab and Spyker brands, has noted recent press speculation about the possible supply relationship with BMW. The Group confirms that talks are ongoing and will give further details once a final agreement has been reached." A report from Bloomberg citing an unnamed person with direct knowledge of the matter said the first Saab to benefit from the proposed deal would be the next 9-3 model, due for release in 2012. According to the source, Saab will make use of a new 222-horsepower engine that BMW is developing, which has yet to be introduced in any of the Bavarian automaker's cars. The same engine would find its way under the hood of the new 9-5. The person said the two automakers are also in talks about Saab buying diesel engines from BMW, as well as the possible use of the MINI Countryman's platform for the future 9-2 premium sub-compact. A final announcement on the deal could be made in a week

  15. Dear all V.W and Skoda owner... For the records I do not work for C&C or CA but rather I have friends in both said company I high-jet this email from vagsg.com by ghoonk and made some changes as we share his view that we should work hand in hand and not against 1 another... after all you have nothing to lose for we are only trying to help and we are not asking for a fee or anything for the help we offer... But the catch here is we will not made any visual contact but we keep in touch via Pm we think we are all in agreement that this is the first time in forum history that some1 has made contact from the agent side openly, and that instead of approaching this from a confrontational manner, we should see how we can really use this forum for what it was meant to be - a channel for two 'opposing' parties to share their points of view. It should not, and will never be (admins ensure that) a place for a one-sided perspective or for people to make unfounded judgements. Historically, management at C&C and CA has not taken kindly to forums such as yours, believing that you people are nothing but troublemakers. Looking forward, as visionary as it sounds, we really hope to take this opportunity for your forum to work with us and resolve such issues before they come out into the open, lot of people in this forum complain about service from CA and C&C. but some we do not agree with all of the accusations, but without a point of view from the dealer perspective (not just CA and C&C), there is nothing we have available to base a defence when people complain. However, we would like to work out a collaborative and informal arrangement with your forum, perhaps we can as a 3rd party 'mystery' representative to help clarify such matters or to try to set records right. We will, on our part, manage complaints and bring them to attention so misconceptions can be resolved offline. Trust us, we do not want to give potential buyers and new owners the impression that they had made a bad buying choice. Rather than continue on this way, we sincerely hope to be able to work with you on proactively addressing service issues as far as possible, or at least to be able to present the point of view from your perspective. We believe that many forumers do not understand the business of the automotive trade. But such an approach, while time-consuming, Can helps to put our worlds back on a path of collaboration rather than confrontation. No one has anything to gain if people keep continue b@*@#*#$g about our service, and if C&C and CA people think you are a bunch of p_^* trying to get people in trouble. Neither outcome works for you or us, so we really hope you all would consider our offer. We have taken the 1st step in hoping that we can make every VW and skoda owner a more happy 1, please help us to help or service you better... Thank you and regards Ngage
