Singapore one step closer to satellite-based ERP
Darthrevan posted a topic in General Car Discussion
Singapore is moving a step closer to a satellite-based Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system, with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) seeking a contractor to provide vehicles to test technologies developed by four parties. An LTA spokesman said the on-road tests are part of a system evaluation trial for a next-generation ERP system. The on-road tests will begin in July and run until end-November, with an option for a three-month extension. If the entire trial goes smoothly, sources said that the LTA could call for a tender to build the new ERP system in 2014 or 2015. source: http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_772338.html -

I feel a closeness to my Malay and Indian fellow citizens during this election that was not apparent before. A strange feeling cos we are supposed to be one country and the GRC was set up to attain closer integration and goodwill amongst the races. I guess this feeling arose from the sub conscious that we are one people after all. Perhaps it is also the primal feeling that we need to band together as one against the deluge of foreigners that have flooded in and caused many to feel like strangers in their own land. I have to thank the incumbent government for letting me feel what it means to be Singaporean, as one people, one nation. I am pretty sure they did not mean for it to happen this way though. With pride. A brave lion I will be.

Geely edges closer to acquiring Volvo Volvo looks set to fall into Chinese hands, after it emerged that Geely is the sole bidder for the Swedish carmaker, currently owned by Ford 02 Sep 2009 | Foreign News: China Viewed : 341 times http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/article.php?AID=2526 Several anonymous sources has reported that Geely has signed a letter of intent to purchase Volvo from Ford, and revealed that Geely and Ford were still ironing out the details of the deal, including the transfer of technology, Volvo's marketing and market position and possibly layoffs. If successful, Geely hopes to start producing Volvo cars in a new factory in the Guangdong Province of China and will also invest US$10 billion in building the Volvo brand. The first model to be designed and engineered under the new ownership is expected to be the next XC90 SUV, due in 2011. Previous reports suggested that Chinese automakers Dongfeng Motor Group, Beijing Auto and Chongqing Changan Automobile Co, as well as a European consortium, were among the final bidders, but it appears that Geely is the sole remaining party interested in the troubled Swedish carmaker. The Swedish government has announced that it will offer US$572 million in loan guarantees to entice any company to takeover Volvo, and the acquisition could be seen as a coup for Geely, who could stand to benefit from Volvo
