[extract] Japanese automakers often offer us consumers with quirky looking cars. On top of that, Japanese automakers produce something that no other country does and that is Kei cars. At current regulations, Kei cars should not exceed 3.4m in length, 1.48m in width and 2m in height. The engine

At the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, Volkswagen introduced to the world its Up model which is a part of Volkswagen Group New Small Family series of models. It was a three-door city car that is suitable for urban driving. A four-door version was rumoured to be released and it is evident now that those rumours were true as Volkswagen have officially released pictures of it. With its boxy shape and compact profile, the Volkswagen Up will be popular among those who seek a small sized vehicle with a decent powered engine that can sit four passengers. The four-door Up is built on the same three-door Up platform but with two side doors added. Strangely, Volkswagen will market the car as a four door model instead of five. Even though the model has two extra doors, every aspect of it did not change except for the redesigned side profile. This enables buyers of the four-door version to enjoy the boot

It was about only two months ago when Volkswagen introduces the VW Up city car at the Frankfurt Motor Show. At that same event, Volkswagen also showcased several Up concepts and one of them was the Up GT. Initially thought to be just a showcasing formality, but now details of the Up GT have leaked onto the internet and it seems that we might see it released sooner than later. In terms of horsepower, the Up GT might deliver up to 100bhp (something in the range of the Fiat Panda 100HP version) and most probably VW will force-induced the base model

When Aston Martin released the Cygnet city car (a luxury rebadged of the Toyota IQ), it was to offer Aston Martin owners the option of a car that can deal the traffic congestion of big city streets while their performance grand tourer sits in the garage at home. Well, some have said that the Cygnet is for Aston Martin owners to use as paperweight so that their dollar bills would not fly away. Now, it seems that Lotus has jumped on the "Performance auto manufacturers producing tiny gutless cars" bandwagon. Lotus announced that they will move forward with their city car concept (debuted at the 2010 Paris Motor Show) and it will hit the market by late 2013 for the 2014 model year. Initially announced as a hybrid vehicle, Lotus might consider going down the all-electric route. Production for this car won

The production version of Volkswagen's up! Small city car has been officially revealed ahead of its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The mini VW measures just 3.54 m long and 1.64 m wide, making it some 400mm shorter and 40mm narrower than the Polo. The production version will adopt a front-engine, front-wheel drive setup. At launch, it will be offered with a new 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine available with either 60 hp or 75 hp. When opted with VW's BlueMotion Technology that includes an auto stop/start system, the 60 hp version returns a combined fuel consumption figure of 4.2L/100km while the 75hp version drinks a little more at 4.3L/100km. Both versions are said to emit less than 100 g/km CO2. A natural gas engine with 68 hp will follow at a later date. Despite its compact dimensions, the up! promises to offer accommodation for four adults thanks to the long 2.42 m wheelbase and the forward mounting of the engine which maximizes interior space. The German automaker noted that the up! Will be the only model in its class to offer the City Emergency Braking System. The latter is an active safety system that operates automatically at speeds under 18 mph and uses a laser sensor to assess the risk of an accident. If the driver doesn

Gordon Murray, famous for being the designer of the McLaren F1 has officially previewed his City Car Concept called the T25. The T25 was previewed at the Smith School World Forum on Enterprise and the Environment on last 28th June at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment in Oxford, England. It is small, very unlike the McLaren he designed earlier and not very fast. But tree hugging people will love it I think. The car is 2.4meters long, 1.3meters wide and 1.6meters high. So it is as long than the span of the desk of which I am typing this article, about 11cm or so shorter than I am, and it is as wide as a letter box slot as you are able to park three T25s in to a regular parallel parking lot. It can sit three instead of two like in the SMART ForTwo (yet pretty much the same size) and when it comes to packaging, it is also miles ahead of even the Toyota IQ. The similarities between Mr Murray
