    No formula for drift

I know I might get shot for this but this year's Formula Drift to me was...disappointing. Unlike last year where the organisers provided seats and shelter for everyone holding a ticket, spectators were left to navigate around bare open grass jostling for space at the barriers under the blazing sun to catch a glimpse of the cars going around a very short drift course. Much unlike the drift competitions held in the US. Furthermore unlike last year's show where they got an internationally renowned stunt biker to liven the crowds, this year they just got a pair of Nissan 370Zs to pull handbrake turns on the course. Hand brakes turns that both you and I can do with our eyes closed. The location might've been great but the execution of the entire event was nonsense. I would've much preferred attending the Formula Drift at the Changi Exhibition Centre. To be honest, even the competitors weren't very impressive with several of them heading for the barrier immediately after the long straight without ever making it to first turn. If the organizers want to liven things up a bit, I believe they should invest more efforts in getting more professional drivers from the US, Japan and NZ. Having drivers like Dai Yoshihara or Rhys Millen among the competitors will definitely raise the thrill level a couple of notches further. Though a lone Detroit muscle did make an appearance in the form of a Holden V8, more examples like Mustangs would've added further depth and range to the mechanical aural pleasure for the audience. Well...we could always hope for more next year...
