Car-free Sunday to return in March after four-year hiatus with games, workout and fashion show SINGAPORE – Come March 17, people will be able to walk, run and cycle on some roads in the Civic District and Central Business District (CBD), as Car-Free Sunday returns after a four-year hiatus. The event will run from 8am till 2pm, with designated roads closed to traffic from 8am to 11am. Visitors can try out inline skating and aeromodelling at two event spaces along St Andrew’s Road and Esplanade Drive. Other activities include an immersive installation, educational games, a mass piloxing workout and a guided walk of the Civic District Tree Trail. The Singapore Fashion Runway (SFR), a social enterprise that supports people with special needs or from disadvantaged groups, will launch a special Active Mobility collection at the event. The collection will include T-shirts, bucket hats, sling bags and zip pouches to be modelled by SFR youth, and can be bought off the SFR website. Bicycles can also be rented at the event. This is the first Car-Free Sunday since 2019, when a full 5.5km-long stretch of road from the Civic District to the CBD across the Esplanade Bridge was closed off on Oct 27. Then, the event was held from Friday to Sunday. Car-Free Sunday 2024 is a collaboration between the Land Transport Authority (LTA), Health Promotion Board, Housing Board, National Parks Board, Sport Singapore and the Urban Redevelopment Authority, LTA said in a statement on Feb 23. Car-Free Sunday was piloted in 2016 over a six-month period, with the last Sunday of each month designated as a car-free day. The 2024 event is aimed at creating greater public awareness of the benefits of walking, cycling and riding public transport as sustainable ways to travel. LTA’s chief executive Ng Lang said: “Besides promoting our car-lite goal and encouraging active mobility, we hope this edition of Car-Free Sunday can give the public a glimpse of what is possible when we reimagine our road spaces to be more Walk-Cycle-Ride-friendly.” More information about road closures and activities will be available on the Car-Free Sunday 2024 website closer to the event’s date. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/car-free-sunday-returns-on-march-17-after-four-year-hiatus-with-games-workout-and-fashion-show helping friend ask where to park car when going car free sunday ...

TL;DR – Huge truck crashes into two moving vehicles at the junction between Robinson Road and Maccallum Street. Turns out it was all part of a shoot for a Korean drama. When I first saw this video uploaded on SGRV’s Facebook page, I must admit that I was pretty shaken up. Here’s the video if you haven’t already seen it: Wrecked In the video (at about the 10-second mark), a dump truck appears from the left and T-bones two cars that managed to ‘siam’ the red light at the junction. It’s all part of a filming event While viewers like me were left stunned at this incident and shared it on social media and in various group chats, the truth came to light. This was all part of a shoot for a Korean drama! Thanks, AsiaOne, for shedding some light on what happened. Excerpts taken from AsiaOne's article The Korean Drama in question The AsiaOne article goes on to explain that this was a shoot for a scene in Little Women, starring Kim Go-eun and Wi Ha-jun Image: Wi Ha Joon, Kim Go Eun Official Instagram) Little Women is expected to premiere on Netflix sometime next month. Online Chatter While some people were in the know... There were others who, like me, were clueless and thought this was real. And of course, some people wasted no time in having a dig at cyclists, which did not correlate this incident at all. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Accord driver goes bersek and lets camera car rear end him
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
After watching this clip that was spotted on SG Road Vigilante, we can't help but see the importance of being able keep our own temper in control. Losing one's temper is easy and when not kept in check, you might end up doing something you will regret in the future. Shot on the evening of 26th of September 2020 along Central Blvd, a Honda Accord can be seen in the video cutting in from the left of the camera car at high speed before slamming onto its brakes real hard. The camera car, which itself seems to be going along at quite some speed, could not stop in time and crashed into the Accord as the result. While no one can confirm the Accord driver's intention, it is almost safe to say that he just wanted to let the camera knock into him by braking hard to a stop for no reason. As it was a slight bump, no one was hurt. The Accord driver then got out calmly and proceed to take some photos. So guys, what do you reckon? Is this part of a road rage incident which the camera car's footage did not show? Or is it an insurance scam? Or is it a combination of both? Let us know in the comments below! -
Interesting question: what happens when we park in CBD at 4.45pm? How do we tear the coupons? Tear 1 x 60c for 4.45 to 5pm, then 1x60c for 5pm to 5.30? Or 2 x 60c for 4.45 to 5.15pm?

Image courtesy of teddy-rised flickr Its 10.23pm and the ERP gantry along the CTE is still 'In Operation', so what do you do; Pull along side on the road shoulder which is already packed with temporary red and white barriers for roadworks or pay 50 cents and continue your smooth journey home? From what I observed, there are still a few imbeciles who will pull along the shoulder and wait for 7 minutes before the ERP goes off. Considering that these people pull over, leave their engines switched on and wait for 7 minutes before the ERP is put to sleep, just to save 50 cents. Don't you think that by leaving your engine running and waiting, its still burning fuel, you're not moving anywhere and in other words, you're still paying 50 cents or even more by waiting! Not only that, you're posing a safety hazard to other road users when you abruptly signal across 2 lanes to stop at the shoulder and with roadworks going on you are probably obstructing traffic as well. I'm not saying that I don't value 50 cents because I know its still money but I seriously doubt the cost of waiting there exceeds the benefits of just driving through. Sure we're paying the government but at the same time, getting home faster and safer. So the next time you see the time on the ERP gantry is timing out, just go through. I just got burned 2 bucks today at Victoria Street when it was 7.54pm and at 7.55pm it could have been 1 dollar. I guess they should just remove the clock altogether to save the pain...
