old topic with a new twist. An Italian village will pay you €5,000 to live there. Here's how to apply Story by By WALLA! TOURISM • Yesterday 9:15 am A street is covered in volcanic ashes from Mount Etna in Piedimonte Etneo, Italy October 23, 2021.© (photo credit: ANTONIO PARRINELLO/REUTERS) On a lofty ridge on the island of Sicily stands one of the most beautiful villages in Italy: Petralia Soprana. Sicily - the largest island in Italy - offers its visitors plenty of sunny days, lovely beaches and also excellent food. Now, this small village is making the dream of living on an island a reality. Petralia Soprana, located southeast of the city of Palermo, is currently offering cash incentives for new residents. Euronews reported that the village council hopes that the new plan will help to repair the decline of the local population - and will also breathe new life into many abandoned houses. This is not the first time Italy incentivized migration, and this is also common in other places in Europe. 50 empty houses are waiting for you Those interested in living in this beautiful village should apply as soon as possible - the deadline is May 10 (this Wednesday). Those who are selected - will be entitled to receive an amount of 5,000 euros (for a family or an individual). In return, you must commit to moving your permanent residence to the village. As to be expected, there is "small print" here: to be eligible for a grant you must also purchase a property in the village, and if necessary, also repair it. Today, after decades of the village's population slowly leaving, there are 2,992 residents left, as well as more than 50 empty houses. The village itself offers narrow alleys winding between stone houses that were built back in the Middle Ages. From the village, you can enjoy the sight of the countryside, including a view of the active volcano Etna. In the village stands a monumental stone church built on a rock outcrop and the central square where an impressive cathedral from the Renaissance is housed. It is believed that a mosque originally stood on the site, from when the place was ruled by the Muslims, in the tenth century AD. The unique bell tower still showcases Byzantine-Arab decorations. This mixed style of architecture even recently received UNESCO World Heritage status in nearby Palermo. (credit: ANTONIO PARRINELLO/REUTERS) A food festival dedicated to...lentils Life in Petralia Soprana is incredibly peaceful, except for the period when local celebrations are held (and there are quite a few of them), including holidays dedicated to local saints and other carnivals and food festivals. It is interesting to discover that one of the village's famous food fairs is dedicated to lentils, which are used to prepare a traditional soup with wild fennel and chicory. The application can be submitted directly on the local municipality's website. However, there is an obstacle: the entire website is written in Italian, without an English or Hebrew translation.

Hi all, Need your advice… Huge branches fell on my car My Comprehensive insurance premium was $680 Can repair at Kah Motor (KM) with NCD protector (current is 50% NCD) waiver of excess of 1st own damaged claim (2nd own damage excess is $800) Courtesy car provided if go repair at KM Kah Motor (KM) body shop will replace the roof, knock & re-spray two sides beside the roof, two front A-pillar, two door panels, front & rear fenders Estimated no 8 to 10 days (excluding weekends) Estimated repair cost of 6-8k Provide a courtesy car Authorised workshop A will only knock & re-spray the roof (unlike KM which will replace) The rest same as KM to knock & re-spray all damaged areas. Same estimated no of days as KM Did not provide estimated repair cost But NO courtesy car Option 1 Don’t repair Maybe this is good only if im confirmed going to scrap my car (but my almost 11yrs old car mileage is only 130k, if sell on SG car mart or to exporter, maybe can fetch higher than trade in to KM if buy new Civic this year) Option 2 Repair at Authorised workshop But unlikely, coz No courtesy car & KM workmanship should be better & KM replace roof instead of repair… Option 3 Find the cheapest workshop & repair out of my own pocket?? Option 4 Repair at KM Is this the best option? If do this, upon next insurance renewal, Most likely have to stay with current insurer, as NCD protector is only recognized by current insurer Estimated increase in premium of 5% to $200+ or $300+ or $400 No more NCD protector No more waiver of excess of 1st own damaged claim PS: Hi moderator, i seach by insurance & branch & tree, but was not able to find a similar topic... pls help to move to the appropriate thread if i post wrongly, many tks

http://www.deathandtaxesmag.com/229670/russian-boob-billboards-caused-500-traffic-accidents-in-a-day/ An advertising company in Moscow was trying to convince business to invest in mobile billboards, so they hired 30 billboard vans to drive around for the day, displaying a large ad with a woman cupping her naked breasts, with the text, “They attract.” Unfortunately, the ads worked a little too well, and caused a bunch of distracted drivers to crash their cars. Reportedly, over 500 accidents occurred in roughly a day As this all happened in Russia, there are likely 500 dashcam videos recording the various accidents. (Unfortunately, none have been uploaded to weird video streaming sites … yet …) “I was on my way to a business meeting when I saw this truck with a huge photo of breasts on its side go by,” said one driver, Ildar Yuriev. “Then I was hit by the car behind who said he had been distracted by the truck.” So many drivers complained the police had to go on patrols specifically to ban the vans from the road. A spokesperson for the Sarafan Advertising Agency was apologetic for the accidents and promised that they’d help compensate drivers for the damage caused by the enormous boob vans. “We wanted to draw attention to this new format with this campaign,” he said. “In all cases of accidents, the car owners will receive compensation costs from us that aren’t covered by their insurance.” don't think we will get to see this type of ads here......

I have an in car camera footage of this vehicle, a mazda CX7 SKN320Y turning out from Shelford Road into Bt Timah Road without stopping and AFTER coming out of Bt Timah road, came to a DEAD STOP causing me to E-brake. A car behind me also E braked hard and nearly hit me This happened 29 Sep 2014, Monday night at about 9:15pm, but the camera time stamp is wrong as the car isn't driven regularly. May I know if I can submit this to the TP? May I know if this can be submissible for evidence for a TP report? My passenger later put her phone in front of the camera as a visible time stamp. (Not in this video cut). Anyway, be careful of this idiot driving this SUV. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnoJs5QRK4w&feature=youtu.be

Couple causes crash driving against traffic to exit carpark -- then blames the other driver A couple in this white Honda Civic dashed for the exit of IMM's carpark against the flow of traffic, causing a collision with another car on the way out. According to Stomper Candice the couple then filed for $4,100 in damages after the incident. She recounts the incident: "My god-sister's car got hit at IMM carpark level 2 on Dec 28 by a car dashing out illegally against the flow of traffic. "It did not come to a immediate stop. No words of apologies, Instead the female passenger confronted us and asked why we had not slowed down for them to pass through. "When asked to produce their driving licence else we would make a police report, the female passenger pointed her finger very fiercely right up to my sister's face, and asked on what grounds we would want to call the police. "At the moment, we really felt threatened and feared for our safety. "Not only that, the couple even came up with a story to claim damages against my god-sister's motor insurance, $4,100 for a minor dent on their white Honda Civic." My condolences goes to the deceased and I hope this serves as an awareness piece and reminder to drive safe at all times. PS: I fear lizards more than anything else; this article caught my attention because I can't imagine the horror if a lizard popped up at my dashboard suddenly. Please take care fellow drivers. Especially those who has phobia for roaches, little insects, lizards, rodents, etc

To this auntie, u better wake up your idea. I have no qualms about exposing your number plate as what you did here clearly showed a disregard for road saftey/awareness and other people's lives. If the person behind was a motorcycle, he may not have been able to react in time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xw80fNNpCs Although the van did not move into the 1st lane initially and did not signal its intention to do so, I felt threatened, thus i slowed down. Then it still did not signal / move into 1st lane, thus i interpreted it as it has no intention to move into 1st lane, and I sped up. That's when it suddenly move into the 1st lane (simultaneously when it started to signal) and almost caused an accident. Notice how close it was to my car, and also to the black car in the 2nd lane infront of it. Also, in the first place, are such commercial vehicles allowed to travel on the 1st lane (not for over-taking)? As you can see, it continued on the 1st lane even though the 2nd land was clear after that, thus showing that it's not trying to use 1st lane for overtaking purposes only. Although not visible in the video, the driver in the van still dare to give a universal vulgar hand sign after making this reckless maneuver. How can I report this reckless act to the authority?

AsiaOne Saturday, Mar 24, 2012 SINGAPORE - Dr Teo Tiong Kiat admitted in court on Friday to causing the death of a pedal cyclist and injuring another when he suddenly swerved from the centre to the left lane of the road. The 64-year-old stands accused of hit-and-run for the Clementi Road accident at about 9.25pm on March 21, 2010. The careless driving caused the death of Mr Mok Chee Kong, 35, when Dr Teo hit the back of the freelance writer's bicycle. He also injured Mr Bertram Leong Poh Meng, 24, a fellow cyclist. The court heard that he had a glass of red wine before the accident. Dr Teo is pleading guilty to two charges. As for the three remaining charges of failing to stop and provide assistance after the accident, as well as removing his car without lawful authority, Mr Teo is claiming trial. Mr Teo returned to the scene after half an hour and told the traffic police that he was the driver of the car. He smelled of alcohol and his face was flushed, said the corporal present at the scene of the crime. Dr Teo's second breathalyser test on the scene recorded a 'warning' reading. At the Traffic Police headquarters, he was required to take another test, which he passed. The test recorded about half the prescribed legal limit of 35mcg per 100ml. The trial continues next week. Link to article I wonder how the doctor can fight the case off. In the evening papers, it was reported that his bonnet and windscreen were badly damaged due to the impact. If you were the driver under what circumstances will you fail to realize the damage? If he had stopped and offer aid to the cyclist, the person may have been saved given that the driver is an experienced doctor.

The original thread was posted by Hhx87 in Tips & Resources under the thread "For those who met an ACCIDENT! READ!" which is apparently accessible to members only. Hence, this thread which is under General Car Discussion. Quote Hhx87 "hi guy sorry to hijack the thread... as i have low posting... i am unable to create a thread... My In-Cam Car recorded one accident along Chua Chu Kang Road junction of Teck Whye Lane on 20 March 2012 at about 0718hrs. One Gold 5-series BMW rear hit onto a P-plate M/cycle. I wish to state that I have the footage of accident with me. If you (motorist victim) need the video accident, kindly contact me so that i can pass you the video Unquote -------------------------------------------------------------- From the video, it appears that the BMW driver was callous to cause such nasty crash into the motorcyclist. While the motorcyclist may appear ok, I hope he will not suffer bad injury following the aftermath of the accident. For Hhx87, it may be a helpful to make an on-line report to TP website and send the video for their record and/or action if the VRN of both vehicles are available. Such accident could have been avoided if the BMW driver had PRACTICED LANE DISCIPLINE!!! Drivers who caused such accidents should be suspended and resend for retraining!

STOMPer Jason saw a parked taxi catch fire at Bedok. The cause of this was probably the burning offerings on the carpark kerb, said the STOMPer. Jason related over the phone (Aug 28): "This happened near the Bedok North 511 market today, around 6.15pm. "At first, the fire was small, then within three minutes, it became a big blaze. "Firemen on motorbikes arrived at the scene within three minutes, and managed to control the fire. "Shortly after, a Red Rhino and a fire engine arrived at the scene too. "The taxi driver was not present at the scene -- he must have parked there to go have dinner at the nearby market. "I believe the cause might have been the candles and other burning offerings on the kerb. "These were directly under the parked taxi -- and the taxi was parked properly. "They should not have burnt the offerings so near to the carpark. "Either this was the cause, or burning ash from nearby offerings could have blown over and also sparked the fire. "The taxi's two rear tyres were burnt, and the boot also had holes caused by the blaze. "The whole incident took about half an hour. "I also saw the firemen trying to find the taxi driver's particulars to contact him."

CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1146843/1/.html "Lee Kuan Yew has acknowledged the pressures new immigrants have placed on citizens and home prices in the country." "Mr Lee said: "We've done a revamp and HDB has promised that within four years, the supply will meet the demand. It will be resolved." But home prices aside, citizens are feeling the pressure in other aspects. Mr Lee said: "On competition for jobs, and especially competition, pressure on their children to do well in schools. The new migrants having left his home must go all out to succeed in the country that he or she has adopted. "That is to be expected and therefore, we must accept that they are going to do their best and if doing their best puts pressure on us, our children, it may be good for them because they will also have to put in effort to do their best to keep up." So People of Singapore, we finally hear from the Horse's mouth that current Singapore government believe in putting "Pressure" on Singaporeans to maximum results from your blood and sweat. If not getting expected result, the Singapore government was the choice to mass-import non-locals to keep up that "Pressure". In July this year, only weeks before Singapore's 46 NDP, LKY stated "'Singapore can't punch above its own weight if it depends on local talent" at South Asian Diaspora convention hosted to show case non-local "Talents". So, People of Singapore, some ex-cabinet ministers now sees Singaporeans as a liability. You have wasted your time and effort in NS and all those national campigns in the last 40 years....because you are "old", "no vitality and no drive".. Hard Truth for Singaporean or those New immigrants? I say BOTH. If those new immigrants are "younger, has vitality and drive", why are they leaving their bigger resource-rich bigger home countries and coming to this little Red Dot to work and still complain? While at the same time, Singaporeans have been asked to contribute charitable works in those impoverished communities in countries like Philippines, to India and China where majority of these new immigrants from. Shouldn't these thousands of immigrants here able to contribute their "youth, vitality and drive" where their own home town are most needed? I find recent LKY's post-GE statements both perplexing and misleading. These mass-importation of immigrants within last few years serves only as TOOL to create division and tension in Singapore in the name of GDP which Singapore's Ministers pay and bonuses are pegged to.

Wed, Mar 31, 2010 The Straits Times By Elena Chong and Teh Joo Lin FORMER Romanian diplomat Dr Silviu Ionescu was found on Wednesday to have caused the death of a pedestrian in a hit-and-run accident in Bukit Panjang last December. State Coroner Victor Yeo said he was satisfied that the State had proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the driver of the black Audi car involved in the Dec 15 accident was none other than Dr Ionescu, 49, then the charge d'affaires of the Romanian Embassy. After a six-day inquiry into the death of Malaysian Tong Kok Wai, 30, an assistant manager, earlier this month , the coroner recorded a verdict of death due to the reckless act of a known person.
