The toddler woke up from her nap and climbed onto the windowsill in an attempt to find her grandmother. A neighbour on the ninth floor had noticed Niu dangling from the window and tried to reach her using a ladder but was unsuccessful. Wu Juping, a passer-by, rushed across the street to catch the toddler just as Niu lost grip on the windowsill and fell ten stories down.
