  1. Not sure where to put this developing tragedy... has been going on since morning... but it's mostly confirmed now. 76 dead, 5 survive. Plane was also carrying the Chapesoense football team to Colombia for the Copa Sudamericana final against Colombian side Atlético Nacional. This was a fairy tale season for them as they'd been promoted to the top flight in 2014 only. Read somewhere else that they were supposed to travel in their own chartered plane but was refused permission by Brazil authorities. So they had to switch to this tragic flight. https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2016/nov/29/brazilian-team-chapecoense-onboard-plane-that-crashed-over-colombia-latest Daily Mail has more pictures http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3980974/Plane-carrying-72-passengers-including-Brazilian-football-team-crashes-Colombia-reports-say.html
  2. Hi, Anyone know where to get the Mother pure Brazilian carnauba wax paste? I used this many year ago from ACE (a hardware shop in Novina)which already closed down. Or anyone can recommend me another similar carnauba wax paste. I prefer the pure wax type not the cleaner wax. Thanks.

  4. Formula One supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, will be tying the knot for the third time in his life. The new lady in his life is 34 year-old Brazilian beauty, Fabiana Flossi, whom he met when she was working as a marketer for the Brazilian Grand Prix. After divorcing his second wife, former Croatian model Salvica, Ecclestone said he wanted to remain single for the rest of his life. When love strikes, it is hard to resist sometimes. The couple has been living together for quite a while now, around about the same time Bernie got mugged in London in Nov 2010. Ecclestone said, "We are officially engaged and it is not going to be a long engagement either." Ecclestone told the Daily Mail, "We have been together for two years and what makes it work is that Fabiana has a really good sense of humour, and when you live with me you need to have a sense of humour," he explained. At five foot ten, Fabiana is shorter than Slavica, but still considerably taller than her fiancee. The humorous Eccelstone joked by saying that he did not need to go down on one knee! Now, who says that short men have a shortage of love luck. Fabiana's diamond engagement ring is thought to have cost about US$160,000 (S$197,721). The 81 year-old Ecclestone has three daughters, Deborah, Tamara and Petra from his first and second marriage.

  6. Link V10 Amoritz GT DR7 aims to put Brazil on the performance car map This is the first teaser image of a mysterious new supercar - the Amoritz GT DR7 - that hails, of all places, from Brazil. Now Brazil may not be a country that springs to mind when you think of the finest thoroughbred supercars, but that hasn't put off Brazilian designer Fernando Morita and an anonymous investor, whose creation - from this teaser sketch at least - seems to scream out 'supercar'. The classic cab-forward Lamborghini-esque machine is apparently powered by a mid-mounted version of the 8.4-litre V10 you'll find under the bonnet of the Dodge Viper. There is talk of a 612hp power output, but twin turbochargers are also being whispered about, which would take the GT DR7's power figure a fair way north of that. Inrterestingly, the GT DR7 is being designed from the outset to run on E85 bioethanol, since biofuels have long been a popular choice in South America. Beyond the engine, technical details for the new car are scarce but, like the new Canadian Plethore LC750 supercar, The DR7 gets the increasingly popular three-seat layout. There are 245/35 R20 tyres at the front and 315/30 R22 rubber at the rear, but whether the Amoritz will get airbags, ESP or even ABS is as yet unknown. More will be revealed in October, when Amoritz says it will take the wraps off the car for real.

  8. this is one F1 grand prix i look forward to, but because of the telecast times i found myself dozing off on one ocasion or more! FRI Practice 1 21:00 FRI Practice 2 (Sat) 01:00 SAT Practice 22:00 SAT Qualifying (Sun) 01:00 SUN Race (Mon) 00:00 last year was an true exception with the championship very much hang in the balance with this single race to unfold this year it seems we are going to get some good racing too from the championship challengers the standing as of now: Jenson Button 85 Rubens Barrichello 71 Sebastian Vettel 69 will Button put both hands on the title by this weekend or will it go all the way to the next race at Abu Dhabi... who knows what will happen in the race? no one wants to predict with so much happened in the 2008 race... in the last lap no less! "The track is very bumpy, and it takes great reflexes and skill to have control of the car in any given situation, the tight corners posing some serious problems for the speeding machines..." and making all more interesting is the anti clockwise of the track, which the drivers had to go thru 71 laps... not finished on the interesting bits as there are forecast of rain too! with me going the the kart track early morning tomorrow i reckon i had better rest in the afternoon when i reached home else i will only see the start of the race
  9. Renault driver Fernando Alonso has set the fastest time in the second practice session for this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix as he prepares for his glamour move to Ferrari next season. The Spaniard completed the circuit at Interlagos slightly quicker than Toro Rosso's Sebastien Beumi. Brawn GP's Rubens Barrichello kept up the pressure on his team-mate and championship leader Jenson Button by clocking the third-fastest time. Button could only manage fifth-fastest, while the other title contender Sebastien Vettel was seventh in the timesheets for Red Bull.
  10. this will be the ultimate finale race for this season and it will decide the Driver Championship and Constructor Title as well unlike last year, which has a tint on both championship but this year (barring a few odd stewards decisions) it is exciting all the way to the last race! so, will the Silver Arrow produce the sports' 1st black champion or can Massa with the red Prancing Horse take the necessary win and somehow sneak in to win the driver title. it will be nail biting stuff stuff which will keep me wide awake till the wee hours! the first 6 on the starting grid: 1. Felipe Massa Ferrari 1:12.368 2. Jarno Trulli Toyota 1:12.737 3. Kimi Raikkonen Ferrari 1:12.825 4. Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1:12.830 5. Heikki Kovalainen McLaren-Mercedes 1:12.917 6. Fernando Alonso Renault 1:12.967 Hamilton will be world champion if: # He wins # He finishes second # He finishes third # He finishes fourth # He finishes fifth # He finishes sixth and Massa is second or lower # He finishes seventh and Massa is second or lower # He finishes eighth and Massa is third or lower # He fails to score and Massa is third or lower Massa will be world champion if: # He wins and Hamilton finishes sixth or lower # He finishes second and Hamilton is eighth or lower If the pair are tied on points on Sunday afternoon, Massa would win the title by virtue of more victories (six to Hamilton
  11. Hi fellow MCFians, I'm intending to host a dinner preferably Brazilian cuisine for 3 pax this Wednesday. I noticed a restaurant by the name of Rio Brazilian Restaurant located at Queenstown Club. Has anyone of you eaten there before? If so, care to share what's good on their menu? http://www.rio.com.sg/index.html Any other recommendations? Thanks!
  12. Anyone tried Carnivore at Vivo before? Thinking of going there for weekday lunch, but is there a lot of any difference between the lunch and dinner menu? Cause lunch seems a lot cheaper ******************************************************************************** ********** Meaty Joints Huang Lijie Sun, Sep 16, 2007 The Sunday Times WHEN researcher Connie Ng craves meat, she makes a beeline for Carnivore, an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant serving Brazilian-style barbecued meats at VivoCity. The restaurant is one of at least eight churrascarias - or Brazilian-style steakhouses - here, which are becoming increasingly popular. In the last year alone, three such buffet outlets have sprung up with two more in the pipeline next year. 'The huge variety of meats on the menu is a definite draw. But what I like about dining at a churrascaria is that the buffet comes to my table and I don't have to jostle at a buffet counter,' says Ms Ng, 32. In churrascarias (pronounced shoo-hus-ka-REE-ahs in Portuguese), trained waiters go from table to table with long skewers of barbecued meats - beef, pork, chicken and lamb - which they carve onto diners' plates. The waiters called passadores (pah-sah-DOR-es) bring a new type of meat to each table every few minutes. Churrascarias here offer between six and 16 types of barbecued meats, including seafood such as fish. The various cuts of beef - typically the rump, hump, tenderloin and topside - however, remain the highlight and are usually imported from Brazil. Another common feature is the salad bar, which serves an array of greens and hot stews. When Mr David Gabriel opened Brazil Churrascaria, the first of its kind here in 1994, he never doubted that there were enough meat lovers to sustain the business. 'My target customers were the Singaporeans who had grown up with Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonald's and were ready for a big meat restaurant,' says the 63-year-old. Customers at these restaurants, though, are not just athletes on a high-protein diet, hungry national servicemen or growing teenagers with voracious appetites. Mr K.K. Ng, 41, group general manager of Carnivore, which opened its first outlet in Chijmes in 2004, says the churrascaria counts among its customers at VivoCity families with children as well as senior citizens. Indeed, the demand for a novel dining concept and a meat-centred buffet was what prompted the opening of other churrascarias. Mr James Lian, 35, partner of three-year-old Samba Brazilian Steakhouse Churrascaria in Katong Village, says: 'I'd eaten at churrascarias in Singapore and I found the style of service refreshing, and offering value for money. These factors convinced me that there was room in the market for another player.' Churrascaria offerings here, however, adapt to the local palate. Vibe restaurant at Negara in Claymore hotel in Claymore Road, which offers churrasco for dinner, serves char siew, Chinese honey grilled pork and a salmon sashimi spread. Brazil Churrascaria uses Australian rather than Brazilian beef, as its customers prefer the less gamey taste of the former. Mr Carlos Brian Pheysey, 40, a trade adviser at the Embassy of Brazil, who has eaten at six of the churrascarias here, says the restaurants make a serious effort to emulate what is offered in Brazil, but laments that the meat served here is not cooked as rare as that in Brazil, which 'leaves blood on the dinner plate'. That said, business has been good for the eight churrascarias LifeStyle interviewed. Brazil Churrascaria, which cost about $1 million to set up, boasts an annual 40 to 50 per cent return on investment. And just last month, Gabriel opened Seven On Club in Club Street, which offers both the full churrasco and an a la carte Mediterranean menu. Similarly, Carnivore at Chijmes recovered its start-up cost of $200,000 within just three months. General manager Mr Ng believes that its outlet in VivoCity, which opened last November at more than $1 million, will do the same by the end of this year. The popularity of the churrascarias is evident from the 30-minute to hour-long waits for walk-in diners at most of the restaurants during peak hours. This positive reception has fuelled expansion plans. Mr Gabriel is looking to open another outlet in the East Coast area next year while Carnivore is setting up two more branches in the next two years. Where to go for Churrascarias CHURRASCARIAS owe their origins to the cattle drivers of southern Brazil many centuries ago. They sustained themselves in the wild by slaughtering cattle and roasting them on a spit over an open fire. Below are eight churrascarias here. 13. It was an action packed race of attrition at the rain soaked Brazilian grand prix at Interlagos. The race had to be started behind the safety car because of the wet conditions. Barichello gave up his pole position even before he made it to the first corner. He looked very uncomfortable and seemed to be tip-toeing through the turns. Ralph Firman's Jordan suffered a suspension failure as he braked for a turn, the entire right front wheel coming off.. sending his car ploughing into the back of Olivier Panis' BAR. Turn 3 was to claim many victims because of a "river" running across that particular section of the track. Montoya and Pizzonia crashed out within moments of each other to be followed later by M.Schumacher,Verstappen and Jenson Button. Mark Webber almost became the 6th victim but managed to recover his car brilliantly and continue with the race. He was however to crash spectacularly on the final turn in what was to be the last lap of the race. He came to rest alongside the barrier with only one wheel remaining and left debris strewn across the track. Fisichella who was the race leader having just overtaken Raikkonen managed to make it safely through the carnage but Alonso running in 3rd place wasn't so lucky. He charged straight into one of the Jaguar's wheels lying in the middle of the track and had a horrific crash. Still he managed to limp out of his car before he was taken away in an ambulance. So, the final standings based on a countback to lap 53 before the race was redflagged on lap 55 had Kimi Raikkonen once again finishing first, pipping Jordan's Fisichella to a win. Alonso was 3rd but was absent from the podium due to his accident. Home favourite Rubens Barichello suffered a heart breaking loss of his lead in the second half of the race after his Ferrari gave up on him again. Can't wait for the San Marino GP!
