BMWs typically have a shelf life of seven years but that won’t be the case for the current X5 whose successor is nearing the end of its development. One of the reasons for the speedy arrival of the redesigned X5 is to streamline the production process. The CLAR-based SUVs will all be built at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Another being the current X5 is facing stiff competition from newer rivals like the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90. The current (third-gen) X5 was introduced for the 2014 model year but its underpinnings are shared with the second-gen X5 on sale since 2007. This fourth-gen model, which we’re currently expecting to arrive in showrooms in mid-2018, as a 2019 model, won’t have anything in common with its predecessors. It will ride on the SUV version of BMW’s modular platform that debuted in the 2016 7-Series and has since appeared in the 2017 5-Series. Referred to internally as a CLAR, short for Cluster Architecture, the platform combines lightweight materials such as aluminum and magnesium—and carbon fiber in the case of the 7-Series—with conventional steel to save weight while increasing rigidity and strength. The SUV version of the CLAR platform made its debut in the 2018 X3. The platform is also pegged for an X7 full-size SUV that BMW has confirmed for launch in 2018. It look like the fully redesigned forth-gen X5 will grow in size compared to the third-generation model currently on sale, which should lead to more interior space.

It really looks like there’s more than enough space tbh. The BMW is parked just ever so slightly off the line. If kena, you pay? To which the driver of the Rolls retorts: A Caucasian lady attempts to diffuse the situation by asking him calmly to move his car closer to see whether he can clear the ‘tight’ space. But he says that he wants the selfish ‘b**tard’ of the X5 to come and move the car instead of him moving. Isn’t he being selfish too? There’s clearly enough space! i intend to change my father ride from 730Li to a 7 seater SUV. x5 Q7 XC90 fortuner GL450 Land Rover Discovery btw, i am talking about the old USED cars to keep costs low. of these, which is the better one with reliability being highest priority. reason is because my father really really really hate a car to breakdown leaving him stranded. thanks for any input.

Am thinking of getting a pre-owned SUV. Narrowed down to X5 or XC90. Any opinion or owner stories to share about each of these rides? Me split between the two but the Force is strong with Beemer. Some questions in mind: - I read FC on X5 is not good. Some hovering at 5km/l? Some owners on newer models report higher FC at ~8km/l under assumed equal driving patterns. FC on XC90 seems better since it is 500cc lower. - Any ride specific pointers or issues to look out for? - What is your opinion of these 2 models from an owner's perspective? Enjoying it? It looks like General Motors is not the only car manufacturer that is affected by massive recall in the US recently. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that BMW is recalling some 2,642 units of the X5 and X6 SUVs fitted with diesel engines due to an engine bay fire risk. The affected vehicles are manufactured between 20 April 2012 and 29 May 2012. According to the official statement by BMW, due to a machining error of the steering gear surface, power steering fluid may leak. Leaking power steering fluid can spray onto hot exhaust parts, increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire. The issue was uncovered during testing at the BMW plant in Spartanburg and the luxury car maker is unaware of any incidents caused by the defect. The driver is still able to maintain steering control although the power steering assist is faulty. However, a higher degree of effort is required. A change in steering effort could increase the likelihood of an accident under certain emergency conditions. The recall is expected to begin in July, and BMW dealers will inspect and replace the steering gear on affected vehicles as necessary. The recall by GM (on the Cruze model) and BMW reminds me of a conversation that I had with a local Hyundai salesman recently. He mentioned that if a model is sold in the US, one can be assured that it is quite safe as the US government is very serious about vehicular safety. I think there is some truth in it.

BMW's are looking much better these days. And these are the first photos of what the new X5 will look like. Obviously, it still remains tank-like; huge, high driving position and enormous wheels. You will still be able to intimidate others on the road even if you're the height of Mini-Me. There are a few stylistic changes to the exterior with the new headlights which have been taken from the new 5 Series which is a good thing, and the tail-lamps have been restyled slightly as well.
