1. Saw this news on Yahoo SG yesterday and I've been reading and following her case. Tragic to say the least. Dogs were supposed to be crated but owners left them free-roaming inside the house. She went into the house as a dog sitter, and was immediately attacked, dragged and mauled away. Dogs could be acting aggressive out of protecting the house. Owners should have been there to handover the house to her in presense of the dogs or at least have them crated. Tragic, because her life is ruined and this could have been prevented. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jacqueline-durand-dog-sitter-dog-attack/ Jacqueline Durand's face was nearly erased two days before Christmas and one day before her 22nd birthday. It happened when a dog sitting job in Coppell, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, went terribly wrong. The instant after Durand opened the front door of Justin and Ashley Bishop's home, the dogs were not like the "lovely" dogs that she said she had met once before. The dogs dragged her from the front door to the living room. Lucy, a German Shepard mix, and Bender, a boxer and pitbull mix, pinned her down, tore off her nose, ears, lips and cheeks to the bone. Thirty-seven minutes passed from the time police arrived to when first responders felt safe going into the house. Police body camera footage shows the dogs holding first responders at bay, leaving Durand agonizing for help. A medic eventually rescued Durand and ran out with her. She was rushed to Medical City Plano hospital in grave condition, having lost almost 30% of her blood. When asked why it took 37 minutes to rescue Durand when police could have shot the dogs, Coppell Police Department told CBS News that first responders "were only able to see Jacqueline Durand's legs and were not immediately aware of the extent of her injuries" as they tried to contain the dogs. It was pure luck that she was rescued alive. When the dogs rushed her, the door was left open, triggering a security alarm at the Bishops' home. The couple told police they got the dogs from rescue organizations and hadn't had any problems with the dogs. "I have three kids. One is 3 years old. No history of violence. None," Justin Bishop said to police. But a sign on their front door that warns about sleeping babies and "crazy dogs" is one indicator of negligence, according to a lawsuit filed by Durand's lawyer Chip Brooker. "The warning on the front door to me, I think, suggests that the Bishops knew that both of these dogs had acted aggressively to people arriving at the front door," Brooker told CBS News. Brooker said an examination of the dogs, completed by an expert hired by his team after the attack, shows "that the dogs were dangerous and had vicious propensities." "We suspect the Bishops knew that. We suspect everybody who came across these dogs, particularly Lucy, knew that," Brooker said. The Bishops said they were "heartbroken" in a statement to CBS News, but turned down an interview request. "We are heartbroken by the tragic incident involving Ms. Durand," the statement said. "We know that she was injured severely, and are devastated by what she and her family are going through. We would never knowingly put anyone in harm's way, and were shocked by what happened at our home. Due to pending litigation we have been advised not to give any interviews, however, we want Ms. Durand and her family to know that we fervently pray for her recovery daily." Durand was in emergency surgery for seven hours before her parents, John and Shirley Durand, heard from one of the doctors. "It was clear that he was saying she's in for a fight for survival. And as we later found out, she had to be resuscitated on the trauma table," John Durand told CBS News. Their daughter had been resuscitated multiple times and was put in a medically induced coma for a week, Shirley Durand added. "I was just glad to see her alive," she told CBS News. "Her whole face was totally bandaged." John Durand told his daughter "she was a miracle." CBS News met Durand when she had already been in the hospital for seven weeks. Doctors had grafted skin from her buttocks and forehead to start the process of rebuilding her face. "I feel like I didn't ask for this. So, I think that it's time to show who I am now, and I can't be scared of it," she said, revealing her face. She was released from the hospital a week later, receiving applause from her doctors and nurses. Outside of her house, the first responders who saved her life gave her a champion's welcome. Her boyfriend, 24-year-old Nathan, who stood by her side, was there, too. Durand wants to be seen not as a victim, but as an example. That's perhaps why she didn't hide her scarred body, which shows the more than 800 bites she endured. "I want dog owners to know their animals and be able to communicate with their sitters how they are," she said. "Honestly, I'm speechless. After every meet and greet I had, I always felt the same with those other dogs and they don't change their attitude from the time that I met them to the time that I go there for the first time." In physical therapy, her mouth is stretched one millimeter at a time so that she can eat more. She still faces countless surgeries. "It's not fun to think about and I also think about how amazing the doctors are," she said. "And so I'm putting it in their hands to help me." Even after the brutal attack, there's a place still in her heart for dogs. Durand was a dog-sitter for seven years and still dreams of working with animals, possibly as a dog trainer. Her parents have no doubts about her future. "She has all she has her senses now," Shirley Durand said. "She can walk, she can talk, she can smell, she can hear, and she can see. She's going to be fine." "The sky's the limit with her attitude, her survival instincts, her hope," John Durand said. In addition to the love from her family is that from Nathan, who Durand has dated for three years. He just recovered from cancer, and Durand often drove him to and stayed with him during his treatments. "I'm so grateful that I get the same opportunity to show the same level of love and care that she showed me during that time," he said. "I'm glad I get to be there for her."
2. A week-old baby girl in Melaka had her right arm bitten off by a family dog after it mistook her for food. 8 World reported that the incident happened on September 8. The baby girl was only a week old and appeared jaundiced, so a relative put her outside in the sunlight. Unfortunately, the family dog thought that the baby girl was food and bit off the portion of her right arm right up to her shoulder. When the family came out of the house later, they discovered, to their horror, the baby girl bloodied and crying. She was rushed to a hospital in Kuala Lumpur where she underwent a 10-hour surgery to reattach her severed arm. Unfortunately, due to her age and tiny blood vessels, the surgeons were unable to reattach her arm. 8 World reported that the girl is still under observation in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit. The authorities later found that the family dog was unlicensed. It was also found to be unstable and was later taken to a veterinary clinic. It will be isolated for two weeks and checked for rabies. 8 World also reported that the dog will be euthanised once it is diagnosed. https://mothership.sg/2020/09/dog-bite-baby-arm-melaka/ poor baby I'm surprised they left her outside unattended n didnt notice the babys crying when it happened. adults mistake, dog to take the blame for it again
3. SEPTEMBER 8 — The announcement and an immediate denial of Singapore’s Causeway toll increase by the island-state Land Transport Authority (LTA) has given a glimpse of an immature reaction that is expected to bite them back. In a press release dated 5 September, LTA announced a slew of toll increase on their side of the Causeway to match the new toll announced by their Malaysian counterpart which was implemented on 1 August. The increased toll rates by LTA were supposed to take effect on 15 September, until another statement reached the desk of media editors almost immediately denying that LTA has raised the toll rates. The statement and then retraction by LTA, made the notorious bureaucratic and sloppy Malaysian government agencies look as efficient as NASA (US Aerospace Agency). What the heck, it also made the PKR statement and retraction, announcement and then denial on their selection of Selangor Mentri Besar, acceptable by ‘industrial’ standard. This pulled back statement of intent by Singapore, has shown a government that will go the extra length to show that they need to be one-over their neighbour. Urban Malaysians do not buy the extreme rhetoric of right-wing leaders that will almost instantaneously ‘jump and cry like monkeys’ on every action by Singapore that has an effect towards Malaysia. However, the more rational Malaysian and also Singaporean public cannot fathom the short-sightedness of the Singaporean government on this issue. The Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) implemented the toll on their side of the Causeway to cover the cost of building a highway that connects the Causeway to the North-South Highway. On the other hand, what are the reasons for Singapore to increase their toll now? Absolutely no justification except to match their neighbour’s action. This immature intent-action reflect a shallow mentality that is lodged in the minds of the Singaporean leaders and yet they call themselves than their counterparts .in Malaysia. Singapore has just increased the VEP (vehicle entry permit) rates from S$20 to S$35 (RM50 TO RM88) on 1 August, so the intent to increase the Causeway toll so soon after the VEP raise is totally unnecessary. The tit-for-tat action by Singapore will also hurt their own companies and corporations that employ thousand of Malaysians mainly in low-paying jobs. These blue-collared workers travel from Johor mainly by factory or public buses that will eventually transfer the cost of the toll increase to the migrant workers themselves. The Singaporean employers, in their effort to retain manpower in their companies will have to fork out extras to cover the toll increase. The expected on-again off-again toll increase by the LTA will eventually hurt their own companies/corporations as well as Singaporean individuals that amount to 80% that crosses the Causeway on a daily basis. Singapore ought to reconsider their immature and childish tit-for-tat action as they are bound to lose in the long run. Unlike the Malaysian side which require the toll to cover the building of a highway, Singapore has very little reason or excuse to increase the toll rates on their side. At least one thing is certain, we can definitely expect some heads in LTA to roll due to the on-off toll increase fiasco. Singapore, think before you jump. * This is the personal opinion of the writer and does not necessarily represent the views of Malay Mail Online. - See more at: http://www.themalaymailonline.com/what-you-think/article/singapore-tit-for-tat-will-bite-them-back#sthash.ouFGJdlu.dpuf
4. This one really die also must bite back......... Severed Snake Head Kills Chef Cooking Cobra Soup The powerful King Cobra A chef cooking a soup dish from cobra flesh died in China after he was bitten by the snake's head – 20 minutes after it was cut off. Peng Fan was preparing the rare Asian delicacy from the Indochinese spitting cobra when the snake's severed head bit him with venom as he was throwing it into the bin, The Mirror reported. Peng died before he could be treated in hospital with life-saving anti-venom, police said. "It is a highly unusual case, but it appears to be just an accident," a police spokesman said. "He prepared the snake himself and was just unlucky. "There was nothing that could be done to save the man. Only the anti-venom could have helped, but this was not given in time. It was just a tragic accident." Diners who were eating in the restaurant at the time of the incident described screams coming from the kitchen. Lin Sun, 44, who was dining with his wife Su said: "We were in the restaurant having a meal for my wife's birthday when suddenly there was a lot of commotion. "We did not know what was happening but could hear screams coming from the kitchen. There were calls for a doctor in the restaurant but unfortunately by the time medical assistance arrived, the man had already died. After we heard that we did not continue with our meal." According to snake expert Yang Hong-Chang, all reptiles can function for up to an hour after losing their body parts. "It is perfectly possible that the head remained alive and bit Peng's hand," he said. "By the time a snake has lost its head, it's effectively dead, as basic body functions have ceased, but there is still some reflexive action. "It means snakes have the capability of biting and injecting venom even after the head has been severed." https://sg.news.yahoo.com/severed-snake-head-kills-chef-cooking-cobra-soup-101904733.html
5. from yahoo : New jobs laws bite into Singapore food outlets, rents Singapore's restrictions on importing foreign labor have made it tough for the city-state's retailers and food outlets to find workers, limiting expansion plans and damping retail rents. "Almost everyone is facing labor problems," said Alan Cheong, senior director for Singapore at real-estate service provider Savills, citing feedback from the company's retail team. The Singapore government, which has faced public opposition to the country's liberal immigration policies, has announced a slew of measures this year to limit the influx of foreign workers to ease pressures on the public transportation system and housing cost increases. Foreigners - which make up almost 40 percent of Singapore's population of 5.4 million - are an important source of cheap employment, particularly for the country's manufacturing, construction and services sectors. "It's holding back the expansion plans of tenants and as a result of that, the demand for space was lacking in the third quarter. That caused rents to be a bit soft," Cheong said. Savills noted rents for the third quarter in the prime Orchard Road shopping belt slipped 1.5 percent from the second quarter, while the vacancy rate rose to 7.7 percent from 7.3 percent a quarter earlier. The company attributes the developments to the foreign labor restrictions stymieing retailers' expansion plans. read more of the stories, link : http://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/jobs-laws-bite-singapore-food-232916973.html Prepare for a $10/- a bowl of fishball noodle or $2.50 per cup of kopi sui-tai at a normal coffee shop ....

13. Hi all, IMHO, the new superb looks much better than the current sad looking frontal look. It has DSG gearbox but horsepower is rather low, only 160bhp for a 1.8T. This is 10 horses more than the current one, which has only 150 horses for a 1.8L turbocharged engine. http://new.skoda-auto.com/COM/model/newsup...epage.aspx?ff=0 Is this coming to town or already arrived at the showroom? 14. Jailed for getting dog to bite maid Maid bitten on thigh and finger; housewife gets 20 months By Sujin Thomas APPEALING AGAINST THE SENTENCE: Housewife Tay Siew Hoon, 53, had ordered her shih-tzu to attack her Indonesian maid in September 2005. -- ST PHOTO: WONG KWAI CHOW RIGHT after housewife Tay Siew Hoon got her dog to bite her Indonesian maid's thigh and finger, she sat down to watch TV in the living room of her Changi home. The maid, now 24 and working elsewhere, ran into Tay's son's room where he and his father, Mr Kim Hua Siang, helped put a plaster on her wound. In court yesterday, Tay's lawyer A.P. Thirumurthy used what her husband and son did for the maid to plead for a lighter sentence. 'That itself shows they were concerned for the maid despite the dog bite,' he said. But Deputy Public Prosecutor Lim Tse Haw pointed out that Tay, 53, was not the one who tended to the maid's injuries. 'The accused cannot take credit for the actions of her husband and son.' DPP Lim had earlier called Tay's actions 'one of the worst cases of maid abuse'. It is also the first time an employer has used an animal to abuse her maid. District Judge Wong Choon Ning sentenced Tay, a mother of three grown-up children, to a 20-month jail term. Mr Thirumurthy asked the court to impose a jail term of between three and nine months on his client, based on past maid-abuse cases involving employers using heated items like an iron or weapons such as a knife. But DPP Lim argued that a dog attack was worse as hot irons or knives were inanimate objects. 'The pain would be a fleeting moment at the point of contact or stabbing.' Mr Thirumurthy also tried using the size of Tay's dog as a mitigating factor. He said the dog, a shih-tzu, is a small breed which is not known to be ferocious, unlike an Alsatian 'which is known for tearing off chunks of flesh'. But DPP Lim said the dog bites left the maid with 11 bruises on her right thigh and marks on her left middle finger. 'Imagine the trauma and fear the victim must have been subjected to by the attack,' the prosecutor said. Tay's husband, 54, who works as a property agent and car dealer, told The Straits Times he felt the sentence was 'unfair'. 'My maid tells lies and I feel very sad this has happened,' Mr Kim said. Tay appealed immediately after sentencing and her husband posted bail of $25,000 for her release. 15. I was accompany a bro here to a garage sale on the weekend at a northern side location. At the gate there wwas a sign that say 'Guard Dog - Beware! As we enter the through the gate, there was numerous barking sound. The bro immediately recognised it to be a Alsation. So he said "Ahh! that's the guard dog". The owner came out saying "You've been warned, but its perfectly safe cos I have chained him up and caged" Confidently we walk around picking this and that. We noticed a nice little poodle with hair tied up stalking us but quiet. Then my friend saw something he like - a sofa chair at a corner. He was making his way toward it when the poodle suddenly bark sofly. I thought the poodle was barking-impaired. When my friend sat himself on the chair, suddenly the poodle came running and bite my friend's leg. My friend startled. The owner came and said "That chair's not for sale. It's hers". There was a paper that says "NOT FOR SALE" stick on to it but because of so many people walking around, some could have turned the paper to the back of the chair. My friend went to have the wound dressed up. Turn out that the owner is a nurse, a very pretty one too. She gave my friend her number in case the would become infected.
16. Woman admits having unmuzzled dog which bit little girl By Elena Chong A THREE-YEAR-OLD girl on an outing with her parents at Sentosa Resort was attacked by a an unleashed and unmuzzled Siberian husky. Part of little Matilda Eve Sail's left ear was torn and she had to be hospitalised for a night. She was attacked by the ferocious dog at Tanjung Beach at Sentosa on Sept 30 last year. The dog handler, Goh Boon Bee, 24, was hauled to court on Wednesday to face a police summons charge of being negligent with the husky. She pleaded guilty. The court heard that Matilda's father, Mr Jamie Sail, 41, saw an unleashed black and white Siberian husky dog charging towards his daughter and biting her on both sides of her head. He rushed towards them and chased the dog away. Goh's friend, Ms Toh Xiao Wei, 20, who was the dog owner, had asked Goh to take care of her pet that month. District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan postponed sentencing to June 11 to allow Goh to consider compensating the girl's father. Matilda's medical bill amounted to $3,400. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/Courts%2Band%2BCrime/STIStory_237279.html --------------------- May 14, 2008 Dog owner fined $2,000 By Elena Chong, Courts Correspondent A DOG owner was fined $2,000 on Wednesday and ordered to compensate $100 to a gardener who was bitten by his mongrel. Gary Yeo Eng Cher, 43, an entrepreneur, pleaded guilty to the offence which happened outside Fullerton Hotel at Fullerton Square on June 26 last year. The gardener, Mr Liew Eng San, 69, then working at the hotel, was bitten on his left thigh. A court heard that the gardener was trimming grass outside the hotel at about 7.50am that day when Yeo's leashed dog bit him. He shouted at Yeo who continued to walk off. Yeo later returned and approached Mr Liew who wanted to show him his injuries but Yeo ignored him. Mr Liew sought treatment and was given a day's medical leave. Yeo's lawyer, Mr Thomas Ng, said his client, who jogged daily with his dog Brie, deeply regretted the incident. Yeo could have been fined up to $5,000 under the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act. http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/Others_C20/Lite_%26_EZ_F15/gforum.cgi?do%3Dpost_write%3Bforum%3D15=Post+New
