  1. In support of this. Shopping trips my wife bring 2 recycled bag or wad we cal as zhao lor bag. Dont need plastic bags at all since everything just dump inside and then repack at hotel. For day to day folks will need to bring a small recycled bag everywhere with u. Support this and SG should consider implementing this in phases. Right now only certain places charge. IKEA? Forgot still got where Japan to introduce charges for single-use plastic bags at all retail stores by 2020. Japan is set to introduce charges for plastic bags at stores, making free plastic bags a thing of the past. Charging plastic bags is a “symbolic” effort Japan’s Environment Minister Yoshiaki Harada announced on Monday, June 3, 2019, at a press conference that the country will be prohibiting retailers, including supermarkets and convenience stores, from giving out plastic bags for free, The Japan Times reported. The price of a plastic bag is to be determined by the retailers, however, the ministry expects them to charge around 10 yen (S$0.13) for a bag. Retailers are also requested to use the money for environmental purposes, such as afforestation and spreading awareness of marine pollution. While the proportion of plastic bags among plastic waste is “not big” according to Harada, charging a fee for it is symbolic of Japan’s efforts to reduce plastic waste. The law is set to kick in by the end of 2020. The push comes ahead of the G20 Summit set to be held in Osaka on June 28 and 29, as well as the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Despite the attention they give to sorting out trash and recycling, Japan produces the largest amount of plastic waste per capita after the U.S. The country is known for its obsession with immaculate packaging. It is not uncommon to see individually-wrapped snacks lined up neatly in beautifully-printed boxes that people then buy as omiyage (a souvenir that people give to friends). Japanese manufacturers have recently started to tackle the excessive use of plastic for packagings. Rather than single-use plastic packaging, they are turning to alternatives such as biodegradable plastics or paper bags, according to Nikkei Asian Review. 7-Eleven convenience store chain targets to use paper bags at all outlets by 2030. Another large convenience store chain, Lawson Inc., will also be looking at renewable bags to replace plastic bags. Compared to foreign companies, however, Japanese manufacturers are deemed as late to the game. Having said that, the move to reduce the use of single-use plastic bags will likely prompt companies in Japan to invest in developing new materials that are more environmentally-friendly.

  7. from CNA : Hong Kong police target fashionable knuckleduster bags Hong Kong police said Monday they may seize designer handbags with knuckleduster-style handles from fashion-conscious women travelling through the city's airport. British designer firm Alexander McQueen is one of the more notable producers of the bags, which sell for up to US$3,000 apiece and feature handles closely resembling the metal weapons, which are slipped over the fingers for a potentially deadly punch. "What we are after is not that brand of bag, but we have to find out whether or not the fashion accessory is similar to a knuckleduster," a police spokeswoman told AFP. "We have to determine whether the design would present any dangers to aviation," she added. Knuckledusters are banned in Hong Kong, she said, adding that other fashion accessories aside from McQueen bags sporting similar designs could also be at risk of seizure. She added that passengers could be asked to put offending items in their checked-in luggage. The knuckleduster clutch has become increasingly popular after American pop star Rihanna was seen with an Alexander McQueen version. McQueen "Knucklebox" clutches come in various designs, with the knuckleduster handle decorated with gold-finish skulls and crystals. Hong Kong police seized 12 knuckledusters at the airport in the first three months of the year and seized 38 in 2012. It is unclear whether any of them were attached to designer bags. Any person found to be in possession of any restricted articles on an aircraft is liable to a maximum punishment of a HK$100,000 ($13,000) fine and a five-year prison sentence. - AFP/ir link: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asiapa...nuc/696492.html Didn't know got such bag...
  8. Mr Pannirselvam Muthusamy has had hot noodles thrown in his face and he has been punched in the ribs. He gets sworn at almost every day. This is the life of the enforcement officer for parking and traffic offences, because his job is to issue summonses to motorists who flout parking and other traffic rules. Though only six months in the job, Mr Pannirselvam is already involved in three ongoing police cases of abuse by motorists. His plight is shared by many others doing the same job. Certis Cisco, Mr Pannirselvam's employer, told The Sunday Times that the number of cases where members of the public have abused traffic wardens physically or verbally has been creeping up. This is aside from almost routine encounters, when motorists get angry when issued a summons. Traffic wardens said that some drivers would crush the summons, or turn on their vehicles' windscreen wipers to get rid of it, or hurl it back at the officers. Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/...e-rise-20120923 ---------------------------------------------------- MYTHS ABOUT TRAFFIC WARDENS... AND SUMMONSES 1.Traffic wardens receive a commission for summonses issued Certis Cisco said this is not true. Traffic wardens are not required to meet a quota and are not paid according to the number of summonses they issue while on duty. 2.They can void summonses after they have been issued The traffic or parking offence is recorded once the offence and vehicle details are keyed into the electronic hand-held device. That is why traffic wardens are unable to void the summons. 3.You can escape summonses if you throw away the notice or refuse to accept it The Sunday Times was told by traffic wardens that some drivers would crush the summonses, try to use their vehicles' windscreen wipers to get rid of them or hurl it back at the traffic wardens. But that does not mean the motorist will not be taken to task for the offence. An official letter detailing the offence and penalty will still be mailed to the vehicle owner.

  19. Anyone carries this "Crumpler" bag at the moment? I'm surprise the price of this brand is so expensive. My sec. 1 niece just persuaded my sister to buy her a $160++ sling bag after she did well in her year end exams. I did not aware of this brand until she told me that and I realise then while outside shopping or at the neighbourhood centre, not only teenagers carry them, even working adults are carrying them. Do you own one and how good is the quality?

  23. Touch wood, most often then not, we do not experience the activation of the car air-bags throughout the 10 years unless something unpleasant should happen. If the hidden air-bags are not activated and under the hot weather, do you think that it will activate should something unpleasant happens. Furthermore, LTA/Vicom does not inspect air-bags during the required inspections. What say you.
