  3. Party still go on. Message is very clear, if you refused to go for vaccination, you will be left behind. National Day Parade 2021 to go ahead with physical event and spectators at The Float @ Marina Bay https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/national-day-parade-2021-ndp-floating-platform-15124154 SINGAPORE: This year’s National Day Parade (NDP) on Aug 9 will go ahead with a centralised physical event and spectators at The Float @ Marina Bay, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said on Monday (Jun 28). The number of participants and spectators will be “scaled down appropriately”, Dr Ng said, adding that the final figure will be decided later. Spectators above 12 years old who are eligible for the national vaccination programme must be fully vaccinated before attending the event. They will also have to undergo pre-event COVID-19 testing. All participants have also been vaccinated against the coronavirus and are routinely tested before each rehearsal in separate groups. There will only be one preview show before the main event. “There will be the usual combined parade and show, there will also be heartland activities, which the NDP Committee will share,” Dr Ng told reporters ahead of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Day on Thursday. “By Aug 9, with Singaporeans’ cooperation, we hope that at least two-thirds of the population would have gotten their second dose,” he said, highlighting that vaccinated participants and spectators “reduces a lot of risk”. “With proper safety measures, it will be safe enough for us to conduct a physical NDP on the floating platform, and I hope that Singaporeans will give us the support.” When asked about show elements like fireworks and the potential for crowding, Dr Ng said “we need Singaporeans to play their part”. “It is better to watch from the comfort and safety of their homes. Do not crowd and I think there will be administrators and safe distancing ambassadors on the ground to help enforce,” he added. “But the new normal also means that Singaporeans must take their own measures to protect themselves and especially if you are not vaccinated.” Dr Ng advised those who are not vaccinated to watch the heartland activities at home and to avoid the crowds as “it is just not as safe”. “If you are vaccinated, it does not mean you do not take any safety measures, but the risk to you is less,” he added. Dr Ng also asked Singaporeans for their understanding if this year’s show turns out to be "not as well prepared" as in previous years, given the shorter preparation time due to changing scenarios amid COVID-19. “We hope that the NDP will give us a wider perspective because it has been a tough year, a year and a half, and I think with Singaporeans’ support and help, I think we can achieve,” he added.

  9. The Escape Theme Park in Penang is going to have the world’s longest water slide. Measuring 1,140m long, the waterslide is already 80 per cent complete, and is expected to be ready by next month. The theme park’s chief executive officer Sim Choo Kheng, said: “It is expected to be the longest in the world, longer than the water slide in New Jersey, USA, which is 602m long. “It can go into the Guinness Book of Records. “It is a challenge to build due to topographical factors and lack of machinery. “It is expected to open to the public in early August after a security check is carried out,” he said, after a site visit with chairman of Penang Development, Heritage, Culture and Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin on Sunday (June 23). Visitors will slide down from the hilltop and cross Jalan Teluk Bahang to the suspension bridge and end up at the water theme park. The hilltop is also the start of other rides such as luge (sleds down the hill), zip coasters and sliding tubes. The theme park already has a 300m long water slide that was launched last year. Mr Sim said a 400m long cable car ride with 30 seats would also be completed at the same time as the water slide. “The cable car connects between the foothills and the water slide. “It is unique as it goes through the jungle,” he added. The theme park is listed in the international holiday assessor site, TripAdvisor.

  18. Rennie Whang, My Paper, Tuesday, Sep 16, 2014 SINGAPORE - Sales of new homes were stagnant again last month, with developers selling 432 private homes. This was a 15 per cent drop from the 509 private condominium and apartment units moved in July. The number of new homes sold last month was 23 per cent more than the 351 homes that were launched, indicating that buyers went for units at projects launched earlier in the year. The top seller was The Panorama in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 2, which moved 40 units at a median price of $1,249 per square foot (psf). Other popular developments included Coco Palms at Pasir Ris Grove, with 23 units sold at a median price of $1,046 psf, and Eight Riversuites at Whampoa East, which sold 22 units at $1,345 psf. While there were no executive condominium (EC) launches last month, 58 EC units were sold. A major contributor was Waterwoods EC at Punggol Field Walk, which sold 28 units at a median price of $813 psf. After including the number of ECs sold, a total of 490 new private homes were sold last month, a 13 per cent drop from July. - See more at: http://business.asiaone.com/news/private-home-sales-drop-august#sthash.4n4kxehU.dpuf

  21. From ST: By Christopher Tan Car buyers will get a small reprieve as a planned cut in COE supply from August will now be more measured. In an announcement following Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew's pronouncement on mitigating the COE supply crunch early this month, the Land Transport Authority announced three measures. One, the planned cut of allowable annual vehicle population growth rate will stay at the current 1.5 per cent till next February, when it will go down to 0.5 per cent. This rate, which is one of the determinants of COE supply, was originally to be cut from 1.5 to 0.5 per cent from August. Two, the claw-back of oversupplied COEs made in 2008 and 2009 will be further deferred to July 2013 - a delay of one year. The claw-back, which has been responsible for an average 7 per cent reduction in COE supply each month, will resume in August 2013. Three, the Open COE category will shrink. Currently, 25 per cent of certificates from each of the four other COE categories go towards making up the supply of Open COEs.

  24. Speculation at this point. But I am more interested to know why she was qualified to run TH in the first place. ----- Jun 10, 2011 Ho Ching may step down in August: FT report By Aaron Low Asked about the report that chief executive Ho Ching is planning to step down, Temasek said it would not comment on speculation. TEMASEK Holdings chief executive and executive director Ho Ching may step down in August, according to the Financial Times (FT). The front-page report, quoting unnamed sources, said her departure could come soon after Temasek releases its annual report next month. Temasek is expected to announce gains on its portfolio, which stood at $186 billion last year, when it issues the report for the financial year ending March 31. Asked about the FT report, a Temasek spokesman said yesterday: 'We decline to comment on speculation.' Ms Ho, 58, the wife of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, has been in the top job for eight years. She has ranked high on several lists of Asia's most powerful women. Analysts said yesterday it would be as good a time as any for her to step down, although some fund managers were not convinced that Temasek would make such a big change now.
