Audi is finally introducing the production version of its A8 hybrid concept, which goes on sale in 2012. Like the concept which was presented at the 2010 Geneva Salon, the greenest version of the A8 will feature a parallel hybrid power train that combines a modified 2.0L turbocharged TFSI gasoline engine delivering 211hp and 350 Nm of torque, with a disc-shaped electric motor that develops 54HP and 210 Nm. The A8 Hybrid goes from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds with a top speed of 235 km/h. Electric energy is stored in a lithium-ion battery, which weighs 36.7 kilograms and is located in a crash-proof area in the trunk. The car

Audi has pulled the curtain off the A8 Hybrid at Geneva. This is a near production concept which is scheduled for production in late 2011. Powering the A8 hybrid is the tag team combination of a 2.0 TFSI engine (208 hp) and an electronic motor (44 hp). With a combined output of 252 hp, the A8 hybrid performs the century sprint in 7.6 seconds. Performance figure is quite decent although some might consider it mediocre. For the greenies, the average fuel consumption is 6.2 l/100km while CO2 emissions are 144g/km. These figures compare favourably against the Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid, which does 7.7l/100km and 186 g/km. The hybrid drive is designed for fully electric-powered driving up to 65 km/h and for a distance exceeding two kilometers. When the Audi A8 Hybrid starts moving, both of its engines (the 2.0 TFSI and the electric motor) operates hand in hand according to driver's demand. Above 65 km/h, the gasoline engine provides all the propulsion needs, while the electric motor supplies power for onboard usage and recharges the battery.
