Uncle was probably driving himself to the centre to meet his friends, and he ended up almost meeting God instead. What happened? On 14 April 2023, a 77 year old man crashed his Audi A3 into the Kolam Ayer Senior Citizens’ Centre at Block 44 Sims Drive. Pictures of the incident were sent to The Straits Times, and we can see the front of the A3 wedged between the doorway, and that the impact has damaged the building. Chunks of the doorway were knocked out where the car hit the centre. A spokesman from Kolam Ayer Community Club told The Straits Times that the centre was not open at the time of the incident, and there was nobody inside. Uncle might want to check for dementia right about now. Both the police and Civil Defence Force were alerted to the accident at about 11.20, and the SCDF took the driver to the hospital who was luckily, conscious. I do find it weird the car was able to accelerate so fast it made enough force to take a chunk out of the doorway, which means uncle has a heavy foot or thought it was the brake somehow. Online chatter Some of the jokes made were morbid, but good enough to forget about it and laugh. Others used this as an example to prevent the elderly from driving on account of their degraded motor skills and reflexes. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. I'm sure by now, most of you would have read my article on the Audi driver jamming up the SLE just to retrieve his mirror cover (and if you haven't, do check it out :D). And honestly, I just can't wrap my head around the fact that the driver actually would rather risk his life and the life of others for a measly mirror cover. So I googled the cost of mirror covers for an Audi A3, and it averages around $30-$50 on most online stores. Given the costs required to fix it back onto your car, I would estimate that getting a new mirror cover would cost around $150-ish? Unless there's something I'm missing out on, I seriously doubt that $150 is too expensive for an Audi A3 owner to pay for a new mirror cover. So what are your thoughts on this incident? Is buying a new mirror cover more expensive than my estimates or is this driver just a cheapo? Also, as a new driver, if this were to ever happen to me, what am I supposed to do? 😮

An Audi A3 driver makes a terrible decision in the middle of the SLE expressway and gets shamed for it. That's right guys, you read the video title correctly. In the video, a cam car cruises down the first lane of the expressway when suddenly, the grey Toyota Vios in front of him abruptly brakes. This causes the cam car to hit his own brakes as well to avoid rear-ending the Vios. As expected, the sudden braking of both vehicles leads to a motorcyclist almost hitting the grey Vios as he performs a lane split. Puzzled over the sudden braking, the cam car eventually makes it further down the expressway, only to find a stationary red Audi A3 in the middle of the first lane. The owner can be seen climbing over the divider to retrieve something of his before running back to his precious car. This causes the cam car driver to let out an audible exclamation of "Walao eh!", which voices his disapproval at the Audi driver's inconsiderate actions. Why did the Audi driver stop his car in Lane 1? The A3 driver stopped his car in the middle of the first lane to retrieve this: Yep, that's right - a mirror cover. For those who are unfamiliar with these, a mirror cover covers the back and over of a car's side view mirrors. Its purpose is to protect the mirrors from dirt and debris coming up off the road, as well as to contribute to its aesthetic features. While it is rare for mirror covers to suddenly fly off while you're driving, it's possible for it to happen when one or more of the connection points on the cover is bent or broken. Although it is alarming to have your side mirror covers come off, the part is usually replaceable at a dealer's workshop. This then begs the question: Was it worth it to jam up traffic just to retrieve a broken mirror cover? Our netizens beg to disagree. Netizens' reactions I agree! The benefit of retrieving a possibly broken mirror cover does not outweigh the costs of potentially causing a serious accident. Yep, a quick search on Google shows that mirror covers cost between $20 - $50, with the pricier ones being a bit fancier. Unless you're telling me that the Audi driver's mirror covers are encased in 24k gold and diamonds, I do not see the need to stop his vehicle in the middle of the fastest lane in the expressway just to retrieve it. -------- Thinking of selling your car? sgCarMart Quotz guarantees the highest selling price for your car. Audi‘s next generation S3 model will also be available in Sedan form, featuring the same updated design and improved tech as its hatchback sibling. We can see loads of sporty-looking bits underneath this prototype’s camouflage, such as the chunky front and rear spoilers, large dual-spoke wheels and most of all, the quad exhaust pipe setup which points to this being anything but slow in a straight line. The new S3 Sedan will boast the same hexagonal grille and updated headlights as the rest of the fourth-gen Audi A3s. Still, the front bumper will feature bigger intakes, the profile will have more pronounced side sills, and the wheels will be bigger. At the rear, expect a slightly more elegant design compared to the current iteration, as well as updated taillights with modern graphics. The interior of the next A3, regardless of variant, will have a surprisingly angular design judging by previous images. The dashboard is also driver-oriented, and is expected to feature the automaker’s 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as well as the latest in infotainment software. Under the skin we expect a similar setup to what’s available right now, namely a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch and Quattro all-wheel drive, altough power and torque figures could increase from the current model’s 295 HP (300 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm). Its main competitor, the CLA 35, has 302 HP (306 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm), so a slight bump is not out of the question. Since it’s possible we’ll see the all-new A3 and A3 Sedan debut before the end of this year, the more performance-oriented S3 will likely show up in 2020.

Cars might be getting smarter, more efficient and environmentally friendly over the years but one aspect that hasn't changed in the face of motoring - fuel prices. The Volkswagen Group are among numeral carmakers that are actively pursuing ways to manufacture cars that are environmentally friendly and fuel efficient. Audi is no stranger to this formula and the premium German marque aims to bring it one step further - from saving fuel to saving money on fuel through a nifty online feature. Aptly dubbed the new Fuel Prices service

After making its debut in the MK 7 Golf Sport, VW's new 1.4 TSI with cylinder deactivation has found its way into the hoods of the Audi A1 and A3. The primary goal of the system is to reduce fuel consumption significantly by temporarily shutting off two of the four cylinders during low to mid loads. The greatest benefits are realised while driving at constant moderate speeds. The 1.4-litre unit is also fitted with a start-stop system. The 1.4-litre engine pumps out 138bhp at 5,000 rpm and 250Nm of torque between 1,500 and 3,500 rpm. Installed in the Audi A1, the mini hatchback with S-tronic goes from 0 to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds while the Sportback version takes just 0.1 second longer. For the Audi A3 and A3 Sportback, the century sprint takes 8.3 seconds and 8.4 seconds respectively. Looking at how the new engine replaces the 'Twincharger' in the Golf Sport, it won't come as a surprise if the same thing happens for the A1 S-Line. Volkswagen is the first carmaker to implement cylinder deactivation technology in a turbocharged four-cylinder engine in large-scale production.

After the Passat CC, VW is reportedly to be preparing the Golf CC for a 2015 launch. Like the Passat CC, the Golf CC will adopt a 'four-door coupe' styling. The newcomer is designed to take on the forthcoming Mercedes CLA. The Golf CC will be built upon the MQB platform that underpins the Golf. It will get a marginally longer version that will also underpin the Golf Estate and the upcoming Audi A3 saloon. The Golf CC will be fitted with a wide-opening hatchback tailgate to help improve access, similar to the Audi A5 Sportback. The boot capacity will be larger than the Golf but smaller than the current Jetta's. At launch, engine options will include a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol with 120bhp and a 2.0-litre TDI with 150bhp. A hot GTI version will follow to challenge the CLA 45 AMG at a later date. The soon-to-be launched Audi A3 saloon, which is also under the VW stable, is often seen as a direct rival to the CLA. A multi-cornered fight is brewing slowly

The cross-sharing of platforms and technologies between models in the automotive industry is not exactly new but in the recent years, many automakers have focused on this even more. The Volkswagen Group is one such company and we can clearly see this in models within the group. Volkswagen has rolled out a new and important piece of technology that will be used in their vehicles starting this year. It is the MQB platform which is Modularer Querbaukasten in German. In English it means Modular Transverse Matrix platform. Flexibility and reduced production costs are the key reasons for this platform. Volkswagen will build 30 models under this particular platform. It covers all models above the group

The Volkswagen Group is one of the largest automaker companies in the world and they develop and manufacture for all vehicles that is within their group, which includes Audi, Skoda, Seat, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti. Many of their vehicles share parts and technologies. In other words, they are experts in cross-brand sharing. Some of their cars even share bodyshells. Things are going to get even more similar starting from next year when Volkswagen has announced that they will go through a technical overhaul for all their cars, mainly vehicles from Audi, Skoda, Seat and Volkswagen itself. The first car that will receive this treatment is the upcoming Audi A3 which will be released next year. The Audi A3 will share parts with 40 other models. Parts such as chassis, axles, steering columns, drivetrains and etc. will save the company around

Sometime today (1st March 2011) the Audi A3 Sedan Concept Car made its official debut but in true World Wide Web fashion, photos of the car have already been revealed. It has been a while since we had a small Audi sedan and Audi noticed it. When the A4 started gaining in bulk after the B6, B7 and now the nearly A6 sized B8 models, those that wanted something compact from them had to settle for the A3 Sportback. Not any more as for the first time after nearly a decade, we have an Audi sedan that is compact and good looking. It is presumably as small as the A4 B5 series that was first launched in 1994 and the show car looks like an RS3 Sedan instead of a bread and butter A3 hatchback (Yes, I know its called Sportback, but it IS a hatchback). Take a good look at the size of the alloy wheels, its lowered stance and the aggressive front end if you disagree with my thoughts. I have to again state, look at those rims! 20inches on an A3 sized car is definitely RS3 Sedan Concept car to me. In fact the engine gets the RS3 Sportback 4 cylinder 2.5liter turbocharged engine but with added firepower. The A3 Sedan Concept gets 402bhp instead of 334bhp. It weighs 1540kg and will do 0-100km/h in 4.1seconds. It is Porsche Cayman eating, but I would settle for 350bhp anytime as the car looks good. A good small sized Audi sedan, soon to be back after all these years. Well, better late than never.
