This is the new Ariel Atom 3.5R, a riposte to Caterham’s mad Seven 620R. It’s made up of the best bits from the manic Atom V8 and the little-less-manic Honda-powered Atoms, and improves upon 2012's Atom 3.5. How was Ariel squeezed 350bhp from a 2.0-litre engine? With a little help from a supercharger. Ariel has been supercharging the Civic Type R’s K20 engine for the past decade, and in its latest iteration a charge-cooler system (housed in one of the twin side pods; there’s a remote oil-cooler system in t’other) has allowed the supercharger’s boost to be increased from 7.5 to 11psi. That means there’s now 350bhp (up from 310bhp) and ‘over’ 243lb ft, all in a bit of metalwork that weighs just 550kg. Combine the two, plus a new six-speed Sadev sequential race ‘box and the pneumatic paddle-shift system first used on the bonkers Atom V8 (so you can flat-shift without lifting off the throttle), and the 3.5R will scream and wail and scare you to 100km/h in 2.6 seconds. Top speed – with a helmet on, we reckon – is 155mph. What else is new on the Atom 3.5R? The pushrod suspension has been updated with new dampers, designed specifically for the Atom by Öhlins, and there’s also a choice of springs depending on whether you’ll spend the majority of time on the road, on the track, or racing your 3.5R. You can also spec different bodywork, wheels, tyres and brakes, and road- or track-biased components.

A tweaked Ariel Atom has enough power to tear your face
PetrolHead posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Ariel Atom's are fun little stripped-down machines that are also crazy fast. Combining supercar performance in a go-kart package one can wonder how much power can it hold. I've got the answer. Ready? 700bhp. A tuning outfit known as DDMWorks from South Carolina, USA are the proud creators of this rocket. Adding both a turbo and supercharger, the engine has been heavily modified with better mid sleeves, ceramic-coated pistons, improved rods and ARP hardware. DDMWorks also installed new 275mm wide tyres for the rear and custom 17x9 wheels. Weighing only 657kg, but harnessing massive amounts of power; the power to weight ratio of this car is crazy, coming in at 2.07 lbs (1kg) per bhp which is much lower than most supercars including the Zeus of supercars -the Bugatti Veyron. Ok its time to put your jaw back in place now.- 1 comment

The tiny but powerful Ariel Atom is getting a racing series of its own
PetrolHead posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Atomic Race Management in partnership with Ariel Motor Company have announced plans for the Atom Cup, a new racing series to be based in the UK that will feature (like the name suggests) the Ariel Atom in full race specification. The cars will feature an Atom 'Cup Spec' version, and will be powered by a 2.0-litre Honda Type R iVTEC engine. It will also feature a modified chassis, full roll over protection, race instrumentation and Ohlins suspension. Engines, ECU and dampers will be sealed with the cars running on tyres supplied by Yokohama. A-

This seems to be a rather good idea, racing a printer with a car, and not just any car. The Epson is up against an Ariel Atom. The main premise of the advertisement is to prove that the Epson printer can print out the entire racetrack, Rockingham Motor Speedway in the UK to be exact, faster than a driver can drive an Atom around it. For those who still do not know what an Ariel Atom is, I suggest Google-ing it before watching this video. Its possibly the most extreme face distorting machine that was ever made for the Average Joe to drive. Some figures just to put the entire race into perspective: The Atom does 0-100km/h in 2.7s, and it weighs 612kg with 500bhp on tap. And with the supercharged Honda Civic Type R engine bolted to the skeletal car, it goes like stink! The people from Epson used a WiFi signal to print from the printer which was locked down in the Atom making the Atom look like a pregnant fish with its 2 seater frame. And the results are impressive actually, I won't spoil it for you readers, go take a look and be amazed. Not that this advertisement makes me want to buy an Epson printer anytime soon.. I just think its a pretty cool idea. HP is definitely better. Enjoy!
