  1. Digital IC in Singpass app can be used to access public services in person from Nov 1 SINGAPORE - Forgot to bring your NRIC for registering at a polyclinic to see the doctor? Soon, this might no longer be an issue, as people will be able to use the digital identity card in their Singpass mobile app instead. From next Monday (Nov 1), all government agencies will accept digital ICs when individuals use or apply for public services in person, the Smart Nation and Digital Government Office (SNDGO) and Government Technology Agency (GovTech) said on Thursday. Besides patient registration, the digital IC can also be used to book appointments at public clinics, register at government buildings for entry, borrow books from public libraries, collect passports, as well as book Housing Board flats and pick up the keys. For now, there will be some exceptions, such as when the law requires physical identity documents. These include marriage registration, checking into hotels and investigations under the Criminal Procedure Code or the National Registration Act. SNDGO and GovTech said the Government is working on amending laws to formalise the use of digital ICs for these uses as well. Other instances in which physical identity documents are still needed include school examinations where phones are not allowed to be brought in, as well as during national service enlistment when physical ICs are surrendered. Ok, don't have to carry that stupid physical NRIC, lose it and get fined $300.
  2. https://www.lowyat.net/2022/262662/trump-is-launching-his-truth-social-app-in-february/ Former US President Donald Trump’s new social media network, Truth Social, will be launching on Presidents’ Day on 21 February, according to an App Store listing. The network was announced last year and aims to be an alternative to mainstream social sites such as Facebook and Twitter, with the latter permanently banning Trump’s account after the capitol riot in Washington. From the screenshots on the App Store listing, the app seems to share many similarities with Twitter. Users can follow accounts, chat with others, and the posts themselves feature a reply, retweet, like, and share button. East post is called a Truth and its retweet equivalent is called a Re-Truth. Truth Social is run by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), which plans to go public via an SPAC merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp (DWAC) at a valuation of US$875 million (~RM3.68 billion). The company’s overview claims that the social network will use a “big tent” approach to build a “non-cancellable” global community. The social media app is only the first of three stages for TMTG. The company also plans on launching an on-demand streaming service called TMTG+, which will include entertainment, news, and podcasts. It is also working on a “long-term opportunity TMTG tech stack”, which aims at competing with Amazon’s AWS, Google’s Cloud, Microsoft’s Azure, and payment processor Stripe. Truth Social is built using Mastodon’s source code, which is an open-source social platform. Mastodon called out the site for not providing its source code as per the software license requirements, which Truth Social has since made its source code public not long after the complaint. The Trump app is also partnering with Rumble to provide video and streaming technology. The app is available for pre-order now on the App Store, but it doesn’t seem to be available in Malaysia. There is no word on whether it will be coming to Android, nor is there a launch date for its website, which currently only has a form for a waiting list.

  4. Tesla drivers say they have been locked out of their cars after an outage struck the carmaker's app. Dozens of owners posted on social media about seeing an error message on the mobile app that was preventing them from connecting to their vehicles. Tesla chief executive Elon Musk personally responded to one complaint from a driver in South Korea, saying on Twitter: "Checking." Mr Musk later said the app was coming back online. The Tesla app is used as a key by drivers to unlock and start their cars. Owners posted a multitude of complaints online about not being able to use their vehicles. "I'm stuck an hour away from home because I normally use my phone to start [my] car," one owner tweeted. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-59357306

  6. These thieves don't seem to have a clue, but the whole story is pretty comical and informative. Tesla Model 3 owner Annabelle Brett was alerted that her car's alarm was triggered. The notification came to her phone via the Tesla Mobile app. Of course, she headed to the locked parking garage to check on her car, only to find it had gone missing. However, she knew the car would have Sentry Mode footage of the incident, and she also knew she could track its whereabouts using the app. Brett was smart to take a friend along, as well as contact the authorities. While Brett was tracking the Model 3 and proceeding to its location, she was also able to use the Tesla Mobile app to activate Valet Mode, among other features not directly related to safety or security. This means she could honk the horn, flash the car's lights, open and close the roof and windows, control media, and more. Brett took full advantage of the app's features to not only slow the car down but also to mess with the car's features to assure she had the thieves' attention. It didn't take long before the criminals changed plans, left Brett's Model 3, and tried to flee. The thieves were in such a hurry, they left one of their driver's licenses in the car. It didn't matter much though, since Brett had the incident on camera, and one of the criminals was easily identified. https://www.facebook.com/ACurrentAffair9/videos/3369061069857292/ Am I the only one here who have concerns with such remote access features (over an app), which can manipulate a moving car? What if someone other then the owner pickup the phone and started messing around with the car when the owner is driving it? Accident awaiting to happen? Imagine @Jamesc is driving his newly purchase Tesla to meet his small three, but left his phone at home, and her beloved MIL heck into his phone and started messing around with the driving parameters while he is behind the wheel?
  7. TECH STARTUP DEVELOPS APP THAT CAN TRANSLATE WINE LABELS https://www.thedrinksbusiness.com/2019/07/tech-startup-develops-app-that-can-translate-wine-labels/ Australian startup Third Aurora is developing an app that uses AI-powered technology to enable users to translate wine labels written in different languages. The app will form part of the company’s larger web-based wine platform called Winetales, which is currently being trialled by 80 wineries around the world. Co-founder of Third Aurora, Dave Chaffey, said that the text on wine labels can be translated into the desired language, and when viewed using the app, appears on the label in the same font. The app is capable of translating over one hundred different languages using both artificial intelligence and augmented reality to achieve the finished result. Chaffey added: “Artificial intelligence reads and interprets the content and augmented reality projects the new text back onto the label, right in front of you. “Self-translating is a bit of a misnomer. The labels aren’t actually changing, the translation is projected using augmented reality, which is powered by your smartphone. “If you’re a wine lover it’s a handy addition to have in your front pocket. This sort of technology will reach a tipping point very quickly – we think it will be towards the end of 2020.” Trials began on the Winetales platform on 2 July 2019, with an early release expected from 23 September. The aim is to roll out the platform in 2020. The platform uses AI-powered label recognition technology and allows wineries to add and edit content attached to each wine. The data can also be shared via social media. Third Aurora was established in January this year by three entrepreneurs – Matt Hallber, Luke Chaffey and Dave Chaffey – who specialise in augmented reality, code and digital strategy. The startup is not the only company using AI and AR in drinks. In May, Swedish distillery Mackmyra teamed up with Finnish technology consultancy Fourkind and US electronics giant Microsoft to create what it claims is the first whisky “developed with artificial intelligence”. Last year, creative design agency Freytag Anderson partnered with 3D visualisation specialist Render Studio to develop technology that will enable users to view animated can designs in real-time using a mobile application. In 2017, online wine retailer Sipp launched an app which uses augmented reality to pair wine with food while chef Jason Atherton’s City Social in London developed a cocktail menu called Mirage which involved the creation of 12 different cocktails, which ‘come to life’ when viewed through a specially designed app.
  8. Download MyTransport.SG App if u havent already done so. New feature allows you to report PMD riders to the authorities. Launched date 31 July. Users can upload an image or video of the offending device and send it to LTA with information such as the time, date, and location of the incident. You will also need to indicate if the incident is an accident or an Active Mobility violation. The form also asks for the errant device’s identification number, but of course if it was moving too quickly for you to memorise it or even notice or locate it, you don’t have to key it in — it isn’t a required field. You will also need to provide your name, contact number, and email address in filing the report. Aside from identifying errant users, these reports will facilitate LTA’s enforcement efforts on the ground by identifying PMD violation hotspots, said Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Transport Baey Yam Keng. See more from here https://mothership.sg/2019/07/report-pmd-riders/
  9. Spot A Rogue PMD Rider? MyTransport.SG App Will Soon Let You Submit Photo, Video Complaints As the period for e-scooter registration is coming to a close, the Land Transport Authority (LTA)’s new rules will be in effect starting 1 July. From then onwards, it will be an offence if you’re found riding an unregistered e-scooter on public paths. Commuters and retailers should note that enabling someone else to ride an unregistered e-scooter, and selling or leasing non-UL2272 certified personal mobility devices (PMDs) for use on public paths, are also prohibited. To make it easier to enforce these rules, the LTA hopes to give the public a more accessible channel to report cases of misconduct. The authority has said it is “working on an enhancement” to its MyTransport.SG app so that users can soon upload photos and videos if they come across errant PMD riders. You can download MyTransport.SG for iOS here and Android here. Before the update is rolled out into the app, people can lodge complaints and feedback on LTA’s website in the meantime. Things To Know If You’re An E-Scooter RiderSince registration opened on 2 January 2019, there have already been more than 75,000 e-scooters registered across Singapore. If you own an e-scooter and haven’t registered it yet, it’s still not too late—you have until 30 June to get it done at LTA’s OneMotoring website. Registrants must be at least 16 years old, and will have to declare that their device is compliant to criteria, which includes having a maximum weight of 20kg and a top speed of 25km/h. False declarations can result in fines of up to $5,000 and a year’s imprisonment. Once you’ve completed the process, you will be issued a unique registration number, and you’re required to affix both the Identification Mark bearing this number and an LTA Registration Mark on your e-scooter. After 1 July, those found riding unregistered e-scooters on public paths can face fines of up to $2,000 and up to three months’ jail for a first-time offence. Additionally, all e-scooters used on public paths must be certified to the UL2272 standard by 1 January 2021. Existing owners of non-UL2272 certified PMDs purchased before 1 July 2019 can still register and use them until December 2020, after which they will be automatically deregistered. Not sure if your e-scooter falls within the accepted standard? You can find LTA’s list of UL2272 certified PMDs available in Singapore here.
  10. I like to read some news websites or news apps when I'm eating lunch or dinner at work. Bloomberg now switch to subscription format so that's a big loss. Today online and CNA still suffice for local news. My fb has scmp feed which is not bad as well for China centric articles. Other than BBC, any other free news websites or apps that you guys read? General Financial news recommendations are also welcome. Im not a fan of twitter unfortunately. So I would prefer other apps or websites
  11. The evidence supporting the lack of an app drawer in the Android N release is really starting to stack up. The just-announced LG G5 has no app drawer and while the Galaxy S7 does have an app drawer, there is a hidden setting to remove it. All of this is making it look increasingly likely that Google is indeed planning to ditch one of Android’s most recognizable features. http://www.androidauthority.com/exclusive-android-n-may-not-have-an-app-drawer-674571/ http://www.androidauthority.com/android-n-no-app-drawer-evidence-lg-g5-samsung-galaxy-s7-675315/ Android becoming iPhone liao!

  16. As I was at home nothing much to do and looked out of thebwindow saw my area nearby there is this condo that is under demolition. I looked and saw this swimming pool filled with water. I wanted to highlight to relevant department to send people down to take a look and to ensure no mosquito bleeding but thinking too leachey and decided not to. Then I realise I got this oneservice app that I downloaded last year oct when the news announced that this oneservice app was created for one stop Service. Incharge is under Mso aka municipal platform where if public do not know which agency to send to for feedback or complaint can send to mso and they will take a look to see which department or ministry is Incharge and task it to relevant department to take action. So I opened this app and finally I got to use it for the 1st time. The app is so good and very convenient. All I need is to login, select category, take picture, tag for location write some description and click sent. All less then 10minutes. There is even tracking for you to see whether the case I sent is still open or closed. Overall this app I give 9 our of 10. Here's the screenshot of the app I send for feedback. So if anyone would to want to feedback something regarding construction safety, roadworks etc and find it very leachey, maybe can download this app and just a few minutes to get all the information and Click submit.

  19. Companies that deal with performance tuning have to ensure that their products fill a certain niche nowadays in order to differentiate their products from others. This is confirmed by the folks at APP Automotive Europewhen they previewed their tuned BMW M3 called the StopTech Trackday Edition. The car is meant for those motoring enthusiasts who frequent track days. As you guys know, open track days are for the general public to drive around race tracks in order to get their craving for speed, handling and overall motorsport excitement satisfied. Noted track day sessions are like those held at the Nurburgring in Germany or for a closer example, at Sepang, up north in Malaysia. Of course, this would mean a car that has to have enough brakes to slow down after a long straight, enough horsepower to pull at car out of corners and precise handling to actually take the corners. So a car like the APP Automotive BMW M3 is supposedly to sort this all out. The car is fitted with high performance brakes from StopTech, the brake specialists where the name of this track day special is derived from. APP chose the STR braking system for this with its forged aluminum and anodized 6-piston calipers coupled with two-piece 380mm diameter discs up front and four-piston calipers with 355mm diameter discs in the rear. The APP M3 has a deceleration rate of -13.4 meters per second. This is serious eye-popping, kidney mashing, chest hurting due to the seatbelts deceleration. This would take serious getting used to as the person with this sort of braking power may have to re-adjust his braking point to compensate for this extra bite. For ample cornering speeds and handling, APP has installed suspension from KW, specifying their Club Sport suspension. For less weight and to free some extra horses, a titanium exhaust weighing 23kg less than the stock unit is installed. For less weight, less rolling inertia as well as for looks, ATS 19in rims replace the stock rim as it weighs 1.5kg less per wheel. As for power, which would be fully utilized for those wide open throttle applications like storming down a track straight, the engine is tweaked to produce 444 hp and 440 Nm. The stock M3 only makes 414bhp and 400Nm of torque. 'Stoptech'. If read on its own would mean the technology to stop. Not very interesting for a performance car. But even though APP had named the car after something that slows a car down, which is actually not as much fun as gunning a car at full throttle all the time, it is still a total package that any BMW trackday or B-road enthusiast would want for their M3. APP have not mentioned any details on price and its availability as yet.
