  6. anybody knows of anyone had similar experience? Michelina Lewandowska transfixed Leeds crown court this week as she described clawing her way through 10cm or more of soil after allegedly being buried alive in a cardboard box. Little wonder: dread of premature or live burial is, despite its rarity, one of our most potent fears, well amplified by Edgar Allan Poe in stories such as The Premature Burial and The Fall of the House of Usher, and widespread enough to have its own medical name, taphe- (or tapho-) phobia. According to Jan Bondeson's Buried Alive: The Terrifying History of Our Most Primal Fear, live burial was long used as a particularly cruel method of execution: in medieval Italy, murderers who refused to repent were buried alive, a practice referred to in Dante's Inferno. Women convicted of murdering their husbands suffered the same fate
  7. Say I buy live prawns from NTUC or Sheng Siong. How long can they stay alive in the water bag? How can I tell if they are fresh-water or sea-water prawns? For fresh-water prawns, is it an offence to release them into a lake or reservoir? (Lakes are those found in parks.) For sea-water prawns, I read they can't adapt to the local seawater (if put in directly) and will die. Is that right?
  8. A most horrific way to die - to be eaten alive by a predator. This reminded me of the tragic death of Timothy Treadwell and his girlfriend who were both attacked and eaten alive by Grizzlies some time ago. Imagine the mother's anguish and despair to listen to her daughter's gruesome death... Geesh, what a way to die... http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8286927/m...bs-eat-daughter Mother hears bear, cubs eat daughter 06:00 AEST Thu Aug 18 2011 A teenager who was eaten alive by a brown bear and her cubs in Russia called her mother and gave a horrific running commentary of the attack, telling her "the bear is eating me!" Olga Moskalyova, 19, made three calls to her mother during the attack, which lasted more than an hour and also claimed the life of her stepfather, Igor Tsyganenkov, the Daily Mail reports. The trained psychologist, who had been camping in a forest in the extreme east of Siberia, phoned for help after she saw the mother bear attack her stepfather, breaking his neck and crushing his skull. Tatiana Tsyganenkov initially thought her daughter was joking when she screamed: "Mum, the bear is eating me! Mum, it's such agony!" "Then I heard the real horror and pain in Olga's voice, and the sounds of the bear growling and chewing," Mrs Tsyganenkov said. But Mrs Tsyganenkov could only listen helplessly as her daughter described the attack, telling her the mother the bear had brought its three cubs to feed on her. The teenager made her final call about an hour after the first, telling her mother she loved her and no longer felt any pain before the phone cut out. Police arrived at the scene with Mr Tsyganenkov's brother half-an-hour later to find the mother bear still devouring her dead victims, who were buried this week, and hunters were sent to destroy the animals.

  10. WTF is this? Totally appalled. Thank goodness the baby was saved in the nick of time. http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews...419-274562.html A newborn baby was found buried alive yesterday afternoon, in a flower patch located at Eunos block 31A, reported the Shin Min Daily News. A resident, Mr Tay, 60, was at the sixth floor sky garden at block 31A at around 2pm when he heard crying noises coming from the plot of plants and flowers behind him. The retiree told a reporter from the Chinese daily that the cry sounded like it was made by a cat, and dismissed it at first. However, he felt something was amiss when he did not see any animal in sight. Mr Tay then used his hands to check if anything was hiding among the flowers, and was shocked to discover two tiny feet peeking out from beneath the soil. "I asked my friend to come and take a look, I thought it was a doll at first," said Mr Tay. Curious, Mr Tay then climbed over and into the flower patch. He removed the soil covering and was alarmed to find the baby, who was still alive. Mr Tay immediately pulled the baby out. Describing the baby as small and dark-skinned, Mr Tay said the baby was bare-bodied, except for a black 'rope' made of plastic wound tightly around his neck. His umbilical cord was still attached. Miraculously, the baby was still breathing, but was very weak. "The baby's eyes were open, and his mouth and ears were filled with soil. He was crying non-stop, it was a pitiful sight," said Mr Tay, who immediately called the police. Mr Tay estimates that the baby had been buried under about five centimetres of soil. He says the baby is lucky to survive, 'probably because of its strong will to live', said Mr Tay. Mr Tay said police found a blood-soaked singlet 10 metres away, which is believed to be related to the case. Droplets of blood were also found at the staircase landing near the site where the newborn was found.

  14. TAKEN FROM STRAITS TIMES USED cars are getting more popular, as prices of new cars rise with certificate of entitlement (COE) premiums going up in recent months. Latest data from the Land Transport Authority shows 18,539 cars changed hands in the first seven months of the year - the highest in recent years. Used car traders expect sales, which have been rising consecutively since 2006, to continue growing as COE supply is expected to shrink in the coming years. "It depends on COE supply, but I think it will grow for at least another year," said Singapore Vehicle Traders Association (SVTA) secretary Raymond Tang. Military officer Andrew Yeo, 38, has just picked up a 15-month-old Honda Stream for $64,000. A brand-new one sells for $90,000. He said: "You will always get value for money if you buy used." More buyers are turning to used cars because they are affordable, said Mr Tang. He cites the example of a year-old Honda Accord, which fetches between $87,000 and $89,000, against around $110,000 for a new car - a saving of about $20,000. "There is also more certainty," he said. "With COE premiums rising, there is no guarantee that you can get the new car that you booked." Mr Vincent Tan, business development director at online car dealer sgCar- Mart.com, said the supply of used vehicles has improved too. "People who got their cars with cheap COEs in the last one year or so don't lose much if they sell now," he said. "In fact, some might even gain." Car COE prices currently hover between $15,000 and $18,000 - three times the level at the beginning of the year. As COE supply is poised to shrink further, premiums are likely to keep rising. With the second-hand market heating up, several new car dealers have started, or in some cases restarted, their used vehicle divisions - either on their own or with used car traders as partners. These include Honda agent Kah Motor, Audi agent Premium Automobiles, BMW agent Performance Motors and Mercedes dealer Cycle & Carriage. Nissan agent Tan Chong this week tied up with used car trader Car Times to offer warranty on second-hand Nissans. Mr Tang of the SVTA said this trend is worrying some used car dealers. "If more and more new car traders start their own used car divisions, will there be enough cars for the used car traders to sell?" Consumers meanwhile are unlikely to find cause for concern, as keener competition means prices will be kept low. Renovation contractor Teh Tien Yong's latest purchase is a four-year-old Toyota Corolla Altis, which he picked up from used car trader Lake View Credit recently for $33,800. "All along I've been buying used," said Mr Teh, 47, who is now into his sixth car. "You lose less each year with a used car. And I tend to change cars every few years."

No details about the victims were available, but police said they were killed on the spot. The Subaru car they were in was headed towards Changi Village around 9pm when the accident occurred. Police said it skidded off the road and into a tree along the road divider before going up in flames. 18. I was out of Eng Neo from PIE stopped right infront of the u turning corner red liht waiting to enter Bt Timah road and subsequently into Sixth Ave. One big F****** dump truck was also stopping on my right in front of the traffic light wanting to go into Sixth Ave as well. Do u know why I know he wants to go into Sixth Ave? bcos the moment the red light turned green, the F****** uncle disregard my existence and even before I can release my right foot from my brake, he simply swerve himself into my lane and cross in front of me! luckily, the back bumper of his F****** truck is lucky to be high enough to have only bang into my right wing mirror crossing above my bonnet. I immediately horned him but it seemed that he did not noticed his bloody F****** backside kena me and still want to proceed! I horned & horned until somebody might have alerted him to stop...not enough, even before I can stop and alight from my car, he still want to run again! I was soooo F****** angry with him that I gave him a BIG scolding until he apologised like his urine wanting to come out. However he was lucky that I am still alive! and best of all, my conti is still a conti, no scratches at all, he was lucky though, if not i will make sure he make a hole out of his wallet! Just imagine that if he were to swerve out an inch or so nearer, my destination yesterday would be a different place! Guys, such an ignorant driver don't need speed to be bad, be very careful on the road, especially next to, behind or in front of big vehicles, they have a lot of blind spots!
  19. U know U can't avoid it, it's too late, too dangerous to swerve out.... Small animals like stray mongrels, cats, lizards and mynahs tends to be knocked down very frequently almost to the tune of 100+ animals every 2 weeks. (NZ is about 5 Kangaroos a day on average) Have you knocked anything down before apart from that tree? (juz joking) I have accidentally murdered a mongrel once, felt very bad for weeks.... Felt even more worst when I realised I did not track back and clean up the mess... Come! Share your experience....
