Source: https://www.asiaone.com/singapore/90-cents-left-bank-account-pregnant-woman-loses-nearly-60k-after-falling-tingkat-delivery A pregnant woman wanted to get healthier meals but ended up losing her entire savings after falling victim to a scam. The 32-year-old woman, surnamed Yan, had chanced upon a Facebook advertisement of a tingkat meal service on Sept 4, Shin Min Daily News reported. Enticed by the $5 set meal consisting one meat and two vegetables, she contacted the seller through WhatsApp, who later gave her a link to download an APK file to make payment. Despite multiple attempts, Yan was unable to download the file on her mobile phone and hence told the seller to cancel her order. While the seller sent her voice messages urging for patience, she ignored them as she had lost interest in the tingkat meals, Yan said. She only noticed something amiss two days later. "I couldn't even withdraw $50 from my bank account," Yan told the Chinese evening daily. Puzzled by this, Yan immediately called the bank, and was reportedly informed that over $58,000 had been transferred out of her savings and deposit accounts. Yan filed a police report on the same day and was told that she had likely fallen for a malware scam. She told the Shin Min that although the APK file download was unsuccessful, her phone became extremely hot, and she was unable to open her mobile banking app. The woman also said that she has never divulged her bank account details, OTP, or Singpass information to anyone. "The next time someone asks me to download anything, I'll never dare to do so again," Yan added. Left with 94 cents in her bank account The scam wiped out Yan's savings, leaving her with 94 cents in her bank account, she said. Yan told Shin Min that she had scrimped and saved nearly $60,000 over the course of the seven years she has been working in Singapore. The incident also disrupted her plans of returning to Malaysia in November to give birth. Seeing her predicament, Yan's colleagues chipped in to raise some money and presented her with several red packets to help cover her living expenses. Yan's husband, who works in Malaysia, also rushed to Singapore after discovering that his wife had fallen for a scam. Rise in malware scams Noting a rise in malware scams in Singapore, the police have advised members of the public not to download any suspicious APK files on their devices as they may contain phishing malware. The following precautionary measures should be adopted: Add anti-virus/anti-malware applications, and update your devices’ operating systems and applications regularly to be protected by the latest security patches Check developer information on the application listing and only download and install applications from official app stores Tell authorities, family, and friends about scams and report any fraudulent transactions to your bank immediately If you suspect that your phone is infected with malware, you should do the following: Switch to 'flight mode', turn off WiFi and run an an anti-virus scan on your phone Check your bank account, Singpass and other accounts for any unauthorised transaction If there are unauthorised transactions, report the matter to the bank, relevant authorities, and lodge a police report In the event that there is no malware found on your device, do a "factory reset" and change important passwords. For more information on scams, members of the public can visit www.scamalert.sg or call the anti-scam helpline on 1800-722-6688.

Salad lovers, take note... So far SG no advisory but just becareful. If kiasu n kiasi, avoid romaine lettuce for time being. This includes mixed salad cuz got romaine inside. Canada has also issued advisory to abstain from it according to CNA.. https://www.straitstimes.com/world/united-states/us-issues-health-alert-on-romaine-lettuce https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/health/abstain-from-romaine-us-canada-warn-on-e-coli-in-lettuce-10952288 WASHINGTON (AFP) - US health officials warned consumers on Tuesday (Nov 20) not to eat any romaine lettuce and to throw away any they might have in their homes, citing an outbreak of E. coli poisoning. The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued the warning against all romaine lettuce just two days before the Thanksgiving holiday, when American families gather and feast together. "Consumers who have any type of romaine lettuce in their home should not eat it and should throw it away, even if some of it was eaten and no one has gotten sick," the CDC said, after 32 people were reported sick from E. coli poisoning in 11 states, with 13 of them hospitalised. One of those had suffered kidney failure. Health officials in Canada said they had also identified 18 people stricken with the same strain of food poisoning in two provinces, Ontario and Quebec. "This advice includes all types or uses of romaine lettuce, such as whole heads of romaine, hearts of romaine, and bags and boxes of pre-cut lettuce and salad mixes that contain romaine, including baby romaine, spring mix, and Caesar salad," the CDC said, noting that it had not been able to pinpoint precisely where the suspect leaves had originated. "If you do not know if the lettuce is romaine or whether a salad mix contains romaine, do not eat it and throw it away," the CDC said. It advised anyone who had stored romaine lettuce in their refrigerator to wash down the shelves where the leaves had been kept. No deaths have so far been reported.

http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/jtc-puts-more-smart-waste-bins-alert-cleaners-sms-when-full SINGAPORE — After a successful pilot for solar-panelled “smart” trash bins, industrial property developer JTC has put up more than 40 of these bins around the island. The bins, called Bigbelly bins, have an internal compactor to crunch rubbish and can handle about five times more trash than another of a similar size. They have an enclosed design that prevents scavengers, pests and odours, and are connected wirelessly for easy monitoring and management. Once the bin is full, its sensors will detect and send, via 3G, email or text message alerts to the mobile phones of cleaners. Because they work on solar energy, the bins have no cabling. The solar panels power an internal battery that drives the compaction mechanism, internal sensors and the communication module. A fully charged battery can power the bin for about three months without sunlight.

Just came across this video. I'm not a fan of drifting but the music and slo-mos in the video kept me watching all the way through. Bonus points for the 2002 and Cressida. Warning: Music overlay, lots of slo-mo and hardly a car driving in a straight line.

Set general alert for items up for sale in Marketplace
Eyke posted a topic in Feedback & Suggestions
consider implementing alert like: Alert me when rims with: PCD 5x108, Size 17" are put on sale in Marketplace. the current alert can only be set for items already on sale and only when changes are made to those items. would be useful if can be alerted when the type of things we are interested in are put on sale, ie. push notifications, instead of us having to go and search all the time.- 3 replies

From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...parked_car.html Posted on 23 Feb 2012 Neighbour throws stones down on man's parked car, smashing windscreen STOMPer Christopher found the rear windscreen of his parked car at Tampines 'completely smashed and destroyed'. The culprit was fragments of a black stone, which had apparently been hurled down from the twelfth storey. Said the STOMPer: "I am particularly concerned about the cases of killer litter in Singapore. I happened to be a victim recently, but fortunately it was my car which bore the brunt of the 'killer litter'. "On Sunday Feb 19 at 9am, I wanted to drive my car to church but discovered that my rear windscreen was completely smashed and destroyed. "I found small fragments of a crystalline black stone around my car. I pick up more than 10 pieces and proceeded to make a Police report. "The Police said they would investigate. I then made a door-to-door investigation of the apartments directly above my parked car. "I found out after talking to the residents that is very common to find debris of all sorts thrown. Clearly there must be someone who lives above that is throwing stuff out. "I called the HDB who said the police will deal with this. However, the Police must wait for someone to get injured or worst KILLED before they do any serious investigation. Who has got the time to find this culprit? "Should the HDB, who we are paying for the carpark space and maintenance have some investigative team to look into such a menace? If left unchecked it could ultimately kill someone. "I am going to keep a lookout. I also informed the Chinese Media. I am also going to send this to my MP in Tampines; hopefully they will do something. "If not I will be the first person to highlight this warning made earlier, when a more disasterous event happens."
