  2. anyone recommend the use of this product? it'll add moly into the engine for better lube... the brand isn't that bad, so want to get some feedback... cheers!
  3. Is there any additive for power steering? My pump is giving out screeching sound every morning for a short while. Was told the pump is giving way already. Anything i can do to temporary fix it until December where I can do a major belts change, servicing etc altogether?
  4. Anyone knows any source of ZDDP additive? Cause the latest API:SN oil is not exactly suitable for flat tappet engines due to lack of ZDDP (its an anti-wear and anti scuffing additive). Many people have reported high cam wear as a result of it. I know the STP oil treatment has it but it thickens the oil. Thus I am looking for just plain ZDDP additives. Btw, anyone tried the Novasyn Boron CLS? I just wonder if they could replace ZDDP instead. But its quite costly though.
  5. Looking beyond our shoreline, can this be an additive that not only challenges many existing engine oil additives/treatments but turns irrelevant so-called oil technologies from major engine oil producers, or it's just a snake oil to our usual skeptics ... BORPower
  6. After over a week of testing, I can confirm this thing does work. It really makes the engine smoother and I can engage gear at lower RPM. My idle speed drops a little as well (its was mentioned in the manual this will happen). It now idle a little lower than 800RPM compared to ~850RPM previously. All this makes me save a little more petrol. Previously I was using the Liquimoly Ceratec. Forget about Ceratec. Expensive stuff but not as good. Tried and tested. their manual transmission additive confirm work also. I just changed my gear oil after less than 10K because its not that smooth going into 3rd gear. I previously replace it with just Amsoil 75W90 Severe Gear Oil (Its GL5). Its still not that good going into 3rd gear. Then I pour in 2 bottles of the gear treatment (my gearbox is big using 5L of gear oil). The effect is almost immediately. 2 days later, I can engage 3rd gear smoothly. Previously using Ceratec also and even the Gear protect. Nothing great. I am not advertising for the company. I just want to share with everyone that there is really an additive out there that works well and its rare. I have tried almost every additive in Autobacs already (save for those ptfe ones and Prolong). Also tried the XRev treatment but felt nothing at all. ZDDP based confirm works, MoS2 works, Ceramic based works but this one is the best. They claim they can go w/o oil and even show an Impreza doing it in SG but I don't dare to try. Unfortunately, its not cheap in SG (its cheaper in US under another brand called motor silk or something). I will next order that in to use instead and let you all know.
  7. i bot 6 btl of c a r l u b e from Giant and the oil comes with free oil additive... I never believe in such thing cos i believe that it is just to thicken the oil and makes the engine feels smoother and more quiet. but in the 1st plce, if buying higher vicosity oil can achieve the same result, why spend more to add oil additive? Since i was given free, it doesnt make sense for me to throw away. im currently using Amsoil 5W20 and Im hitting 9000km and i believe my oil would have shear a more or less... so, I decided to add 1/2 bottle to thicken it a bit, even if the additive is harmful, Im gg to change my oil in a few hundred km anyway. No harm to try... So, yesterday night, I added 1/2 bottle in and start my engine to check the effect... engine become more quiet (as expected), i didnt test drive cause its quiet late alrd.... This morning, when I drive the car to work, i can feels that the engine is not as smooth as before, its kind of rought but the strange side is, its very quiet... I know that i sounds funny cause if the engine is not smooth, it should be more noisy but thats how i felt... can anyone explain? also, at the same time, wish to check with the rest who tried this oil additive and care to share your expereince?
  8. Its just butt dyno. No scientific proof of any kind. I was due for an oil change and decide to go for Schaeffer Spureme 9000 5w40 cause Amsoil 20W50 not available. Smooth immediately after change but kana the annoying valve ticking. I thought its due to the oil. Thus after barely 150KM on the Schaeffer, I change to Redline 15w50. By right, with such new oil, I shouldn't feel much but no. Despite it being 50wt oil, the engine feels even more responsive compared to schaeffer 5w40 and its immediate effect. Unfortunately, the stupid valve tick still didn't go away. So this time I went to Autobacs and bought 2 bottles of Novasyn Boron CLS additive (heart pain, so expensive). Drain out part of the Redline oil and pour in the Novasyn. Went for a 80KM drive (From my house to Tuas, then changi and back home). It confirm smoother and more responsive then Redline oil alone. Cause I know if I change gear at which RPM and which point of the road (with or w/o slope) the engine will vibrate due to lack of power and I have to step harder. Now, I step less than usual and change gear earlier. It means less friction. And good thing is the next morning, the annoying valve ticking is gone. Its expensive but it works. Nothing much magic. Read alot about Boron CLS as a lubricant already.
  9. http://www.ameslab.gov/final/News/2008rel/Nanocoatings.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BAM_(material) If our engine and all moving parts in our car is coating by this material, it will be extremely lasting and will save fuel and boost power. Imagine cylinder walls coated, bearings etc coated with this. Our engines will last super long!
  10. Heard from an actual user that this fuel additive works better than other similar products in cleaning out carbon and/or sludge from the engine, and will give noticeable difference after using. Any bros here used it? What's the price like? Thnx!
  11. Dear all I am looking for LSD addtitive to add to my normal gear oil. I have tried major automotive supplies retailers and they do not stock it. Anyone aware who and where sells them? Thanks.
  12. Looks like our neighbour in the north is coming out a fuel additive not only challenges those stuffs some of us are constantly pouring into the our fuel tank, but possibly adds further doubt on effectiveness of those fuel-savings technologies major petroleum companies kept telling us. Or, could it be another snake oil according to our usual skeptics ... MyGreenOil is a Multifunctional Breakthrough Fuel Reformulator. When mixed with fuel, it immediately changes normal fuel, making it a super efficient fuel which performs at optimum value, resulting in multiple benefits such as: FUEL SAVINGS - from the ever increasing cost of fuel INCREASED POWER & PERFORMANCE - giving optimum value for net gain against cost REDUCED MAINTENANCE COSTS - from expensive engine wear and tear REDUCED EMMISSIONS - from harmful toxic exhaust emmissions MyGreenOil can reformulate any kind of liquid fuel such as; petrol, diesel, light fuel, medium fuel, heavy (bunker) fuel or biodiesel. MyGreenOil creates immediate economic savings when used for cars, trucks, boats, motorcycle, diesel powered engines, generator sets, lawn, garden and farm equipments, furnaces, burners, boilers and all kinds of industries that use large amounts of fuel. MyGreenOil is a unique formula of high-quality natural esters. It is non-toxic, non-hazardous and free of carcinogens. The unique natural esters in MyGreenOil is made up of 100% plant quintessence, it is not derived from petroleum and is biodegradable. Laboratory tests confirm that MyGreenOil is clean and safe upon ignition, reducing emissions without adding any of its own components to the exhaust and is 99.999% ash-less upon combustion. Fuel Savings From Reduced Fuel Consumption In normal circumstances, fuel in any engine burns incompletely and gets worse as the engine gets older. This inefficient burn leaves unburned wasted fuel, which becomes dangerous hydrocarbon exhaust emissions polluting the environment. Exhaust is essentially unburned fuel or wasted fuel. Besides exhaust gases, inefficient combustion also creates carbon build up in your engine, which robs power and performance from the engine. When MyGreenOil is added to normal fuel, oxygenation occurs at the molecular level changing normal fuel to become high quality super efficient fuel, allowing it to burn more completely in an efficient manner. Less wastage and more efficient burning results in reduced fuel consumption and translate into better mileage for every tank. Instead of being exhausted in the form of toxic emissions, unused fuel is now saved in the fuel tank, waiting to be used efficiently by the engine. Efficient fuel use also means improved engine performance. On average, our customers have reportedly achieved a 15% to 50% increase in fuel mileage. Increased mileage creates fuel savings by producing a net gain in mileage above cost. Increased Power and Performance Efficient combustion means efficient fuel use which translates into improved engine performance. A more complete combustion process obtains increased power from each engine revolution. Tests have proven that when MyGreenOil is added into fuel, it is able to increase horsepower, torque and acceleration, without the usual side effects such as high engine temperatures, louder engine noise and increased wear. In fact, MyGreenOil is proven to do just the opposite. While Power and Performance improves, engine temperature, noise, vibration, wear and tear becomes significantly lower, protecting the engine in the long run. Reduced Maintenance Costs and Prolongs Engine Life Span MyGreenOil is proven to provide savings from high engine maintenance and repair costs. The unique blend of 100% natural esters adds lubricating and cleansing properties to the fuel. Internal components of the engine benefit from the lubricating and cleansing properties of MyGreenOil, this includes the fuel lines, filters, carburettors, spark plugs, injectors and all engine seals, keeping them tighter and longer lasting. Engine lubricant oil still appears clear and clean after more than 10,000 kms BEFORE without MyGreenOil (15,000 km) AFTER with MyGreenOil (15,000 km) The cleansing properties of Natural Esters in MyGreenOil also prevent new carbon deposits and remove old deposits, which robs the engine of power and performance. As a result, horsepower and torque returns closer to the manufacturer
  13. HI Guys! Yester i saw type of additive that u add into the car engine oil which they say is Dupont Telfon ... anyone use before?? how good is it?? $54 leh... too expensive to try or not???
  14. Some of the people claimed they are same, only R-134a is for 'O-zone friendly' & R-12 doesn't' the below is just translated from the http://www.nutec-japan.com/nc-200.htm
  15. Is That Additive Really A Negative? Article by Fred Rau, You Can't Tell The Players Without A Program There were simply too many oil additives available! First of all, we found that if we checked the fine print on the packages, quite a number of the additives came from the same manufacturer. Also, we began to notice that the additives could be separated into basic "groups" that seemed to carry approximately the same ingredients and the same promises. In the end, we divided our additives into four basic groups and purchased at least three brands from three different manufacturers for each group. We defined our four groups this way: [ol] [*]Products that seemed to be nothing more than regular 50-rated engine oil (including standard additives) with PTFE (Teflon TM) added. [*]Products that seemed to be nothing more than regular 50-rated engine oil (including standard additives) with zinc dialkyldithiophosphate added. [*]Products containing (as near as we could determine) much the same additives as are already found in most major brands of engine oil, though in different quantities and combinations. [*]Products made up primarily of solvents and/or detergents. [/ol]There may be some differences in chemical makeup within groups, but that is impossible to tell since the additive manufacturers refuse to list the specific ingredients of their products. We will discuss each group individually. The PTFE Mystery Currently, the most common and popular oil additives on the market are those that contain PTFE powders suspended in a regular, over-the-counter type, 50-rated petroleum or synthetic engine oil. PTFE is the common abbreviation used for Polytetrafloeraethylene, more commonly known by the tradename "Teflon," which is a registered trademark of the DuPont Chemical Corporation. Among those oil additives we have identified as containing PTFE are: Slick 50, Liquid Ring, Lubrilon, Microlon, Matrix, Petrolon (same company as Slick 50), QMl, and T-Plus (K-Mart). There are probably many more names in use on many more products using PTFE. We have found that oil additive makers like to market their products under a multitude of "private brand" names. While some of these products may contain other additives in addition to PTFE, all seem to rely on the PTFE as their primary active ingredient and all, without exception, do not list what other ingredients they may contain. Though they have gained rather wide acceptance among the motoring public, oil additives containing PTFE have also garnered their share of critics among experts in the field of lubrication. By far the most damning testimonial against these products originally came from the DuPont Chemical Corporation, inventor of PTFE and holder of the patents and trademarks for Teflon. In a statement issued about ten years ago, DuPont's Fluoropolymers Division Product Specialist, J.F. Imbalzano said, "Teflon is not useful as an ingredient in oil additives or oils used for internal combustion engines." At the time, DuPont threatened legal action against anyone who used the name "Teflon" on any oil product destined for use in an internal combustion engine, and refused to sell its PTFE powders to any one who intended to use them for such purposes. After a flurry of lawsuits from oil additive makers, claiming DuPont could not prove that PTFE was harmful to engines, DuPont was forced to once again begin selling their PTFE to the additive producers. The additive makers like to claim this is some kind of "proof' that their products work, when in fact it is nothing more than proof that the American legal ethic of "innocent until proven guilty" is still alive and well. The decision against Dupont involved what is called "restraint of trade." You can't refuse to sell a product to someone just because there is a possibility they might use it for a purpose other than what you intended it for. It should be noted that DuPont's official position on the use of PTFE in engine oils remains carefully aloof and non-commital, for obvious legal reasons. DuPont states that though they sell PTFE to oil additive producers, they have "no proof of the validity of the additive makers' claims." They further state that they have "no knowledge of any advantage gained through the use of PTFE in engine oil." Fear of potential lawsuits for possible misrepresentation of a product seem to run much higher among those with the most to lose. After DuPont's decision and attempt to halt the use of PTFE in engine oils, several of the oil additive companies simply went elsewhere for their PTFE powders, such as purchasing them in other countries. In some cases, they disguise or hype their PTFE as being something different or special by listing it under one of their own tradenames. That doesn't change the fact that it is still PTFE. In addition, there is some evidence that certain supplies of PTFE powders (from manufacturers other than DuPont) are of a cruder version than the original, made with larger sized flakes that are more likely to "settle out" in your oil or clog up your filters. One fairly good indication that a product contains this kind of PTFE is if the instructions for its use advise you to "shake well before using." It only stands to reason that if the manufacturer knows the solids in his product will settle to the bottom of a container while sitting on a shelf, the same thing is going to happen inside your engine when it is left idle for any period of time. The problem with putting PTFE in your oil, as explained to us by several industry experts, is that PTFE is a solid. The additive makers claim this solid "coats" the moving parts in an engine (though that is far from being scientifically proven). Slick 50 is currently both the most aggressive advertiser and the most popular seller, with claims of over 14 million treatments sold. However, such solids seem even more inclined to coat non-moving parts, like oil passages and filters. After all, if it can build up under the pressures and friction exerted on a cylinder wall, then it stands to reason it should build up even better in places with low pressures and virtually no friction. This conclusion seems to be borne out by tests on oil additives containing PTFE conducted by the NASA Lewis Research Center, which said in their report, "In the types of bearing surface contact we have looked at, we have seen no benefit. In some cases we have seen detrimental effect. The solids in the oil tend to accumulate at inlets and act as a dam, which simply blocks the oil from entering. Instead of helping, it is actually depriving parts of lubricant." Remember, PTFE in oil additives is a suspended solid. Now think about why you have an oil filter on your engine. To remove suspended solids, right? Right. Therefore it would seem to follow that if your oil filter is doing its job, it will collect as much of the PTFE as possible, as quickly as possible. This can result in a clogged oil filter and decreased oil pressure throughout your engine. ......... continued.....
