Here I am writing two back-to-back articles on accidents involving reckless Singapore-registered vehicles in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. This time, it involves a hotter hatch than the Volkswagen Golf GTI (Read it here) - the Mercedes A45 AMG. Watch the video of the accident here: What Happened? The following accident occurred in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, in the early hours of 8th May, Sunday. A Mercedes A45 was gunning down the road of Jalan Johor Bahru - Kota Tinggi (Jalan Serampang Intersection) at high speed. Somehow or rather, the Mercedes driver lost control of his hot hatch and skidded. As a result, it slams into a total of five vehicles (including the cam car) before coming to a stop in the middle of the road. Among the five vehicles, four were waiting at a red-light in the opposite direction where the Mercedes driver came from. According to Johor Bahru Selatan District Police Headquarters, the Mercedes driver was tested negative for driving under the influence of alcohol and substance. Also, Johor Bahru Selatan District Police Headquarters have since launched an official investigation into this accident under section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Thank goodness those involved managed to escape with only minor injuries. Here's wishing all those involved in the accident a speedy recovery! P.S. I am guessing the Mercedes driver's insurance company ain't gonna be happy about this! The involvement of numerous parties and foreign-registered vehicle(s) seems like this will make this accident claim a troublesome one. Aftermath of the Accident Below are some snippets of the accident scene. The Mercedes A45 seems like it was damaged the most during the accident compared to the other vehicles - the hot hatch looks like a complete wreck! Do you think the A45 is salvageable? Or would it be heading for the scrapyard back in Singapore? Netizens' Comments Planking in prison? I can't tell if this netizen is being legit or not... I wonder if this works both ways🤔 NGL, its getting annoying. I can't see the video/image without the watermark obstructing my view. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Curious about what horse power numbers Mercedes-AMG's upcoming A45 will put out? An online publication has managed to confirm its specifications. Labelled under the codename M139, Carscoops has claimed that the new A45 AMG will get a base output of 382bhp and 480Nm of torque from its new turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. An S variant will have even more power with 415bhp and 500Nm of torque. A quick calculation reveals a staggering 208bhp per litre which is a figure that definitely right up there when it comes to mass production cars. Beside that, the engine revs to 7200 rpm and is said to have a torque curve that will deliver power in a fashion similar to a naturally-aspirated engine. Some interesting facts about the engine include having a new twin-scroll turbocharger that features a turbine housing with two different flow passages that run parallel to one another. It also receives roller bearings which helps to reduce friction and improve responsiveness. Elsewhere, the engine is made of aluminium and gets a forged steel crankshaft and forged aluminum pistons which reside in Nanoslide-coated cylinder liners. Mercedes-AMG has also uprated its cooling capabilities and equipped it with an electric water pump that operates independently of the engine. The car will also come with an additional radiator that supports the main radiator in front.

A 45 AMG 4MATIC PETRONAS Green Edition debuts in Japan
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Mercedes-Benz Japan recently revealed a new special limited edition of its A-Class premium hatchback. Called the 'A 45 AMG 4MATIC PETRONAS Green Edition', it features special exterior/interior designs available under the customisation program from the AMG Performance Studio. Available only in Calcite white, only 30 of these limited edition cars will be produced for the Japanese market. Differences to the normal A 45 AMG are mainly cosmetic. Its front-end areas, exterior mirrors, rear spoiler, headlamp units, wheel hub caps, and other details are painted in PETRONAS green - the special shade normally reserved for the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS FORMULA ONE® car. Inside, AMG Performance Studio gave its steering wheel, dashboard, instrument panel, and climate control air vents the green treatment while the steering wheel, door panels, arm rest, and floor mats get matching green stitching too. The lucky Japanese will also be the first in the world to get carbon fibre material for the interior. Mechanically, the car remains the same, which is no bad thing considering it has the most powerful four-cylinder turbo engine in the world. And with 360bhp channeled to all four wheels, you bet it will be a riot to drive.- 3 comments

2013 has seen quite a good number of car launches in Singapore so far. Many were important models while a few of them were highly anticipated ones. The Lexus IS, Audi A3 and Porsche Cayman are examples of such. So what's left for 2013 that deserves the extra attention? Alfa Romeo 4C There has been much hype about this little sports car for some time now and it isn't dying anytime soon. Why would it when it has a lacquered carbon tub, 237bhp, plentiful torque, weighs less than a tonne and utilises an unassisted steering? Also included in the package are a mid-mounted engine and a dual-clutch gearbox for maximum efficiency. A 45 AMG Hot hatches. Any true blue enthusiast will hanker after one sometime in his/her life. How about the most powerful one currently in production? The A 45 AMG has 355bhp from a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with a huge specific power output of 178bhp per litre. According to Mercedes Benz, it can also do around 17km/L, which is frankly a miracle. Coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and four-wheel drive it is going to be one good weapon for the track. Look out for these two. I'm serious.

Feeling the heat from Mercedes AMG A 45's 2.0-litre turbo unit, Audi is working to dial up more power and torque from its 2.5-litre five-cylinder TFSI engine. Stephan Reil, Head of Development of quattro GmbH, commented, "The five-cylinder engine will have a big future with us. But the numbers I see from AMG's engines are enormous from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder." AMG's power plant (below) produces 350bhp, which is only 10bhp behind the larger capacity unit from Ingolstadt. However, there is a tougher challenge awaiting Audi. The engine has to meet the tough EU 6 emissions standard in Europe by September 2014. This means that the engine's combustion processes and catalysts need to be heavily revamped, according to Reil. Audi's turbocharged 2.5-litre Inline five-cylinder currently powers the TT RS and RS3 models. Five-cylinder engines are noted for combining the best aspects of four and six-cylinder engines. They generate more power and torque than six-cylinder engines while maintaining the fuel economy and peppiness of smaller four-cylinder engines.
