    Watch Part V

Time for a part V, since the part IV has hit >500 pages, with 10,050 posts made to be exact... And going back to the basic: Let this thread be for all things related to watches, except advertisement! There is no better time to start this new thread, since BASELWORLD 2019 will be officially opened today and last till 26 March 2019. Rolex GMT-Master II Ref. 126719 BLRO With Meteorite Dial In White Gold Sea-Dweller In Two-Tone 'Rolesor' Steel And Yellow Gold Ref. 126603 GMT-Master II Ref. 126710 BLNR Tudor Black Bay Chronograph Steel & Gold Ref. 79363N Black Bay P01 Ref. 2. This. This watch dial is the reason I started on this particular watch build... It all began when I came across someone's build that utilised the same dial - prior to this, I did not even know of the existence of a Walter Wolf Racing branded watch or dial. If you don't have any idea who or what Walter Wolf Racing is, here's an excerpt from Wikipedia: "Walter Wolf Racing was a Formula One constructor active from 1977 to 1979, which won the first race the team entered. It was owned and run by Canadian Walter Wolf. The team was based in Reading, UK but raced with the Canadian licence." Okay, to be honest, I don't really know much about the team either, all I knew was that its colours look great, I've seen F1 cars with its livery online, and that there was an RG400 Walter Wolf by Suzuki. Eitherway, I decided that this would make for the perfect piece to work around to create a motorsports-inspired driving watch! As you can see, the dial that I've gotten came from this Citizen watch, which was part of a special release of Walter Wolf Racing co-branded line of watches. And for some reason, the dial was available on eBay, and although it costs quite a pretty penny, I decided to go for it! While I could have went with a typical NH36 movement, this was a plain dial build without any date, hence the NH36 movement with a date complication would have resulted in a 'ghost position' for the quickset date adjustment. To circumvent this issue, and for that fancy black plating, I opted for the skeletonised NH72A, and on top of that, I ordered some blued screws to dress the movement up a little (the watch's gonna have a display caseback!) As the dial is of a smaller diameter than standard Seiko ones, I had to make it work somehow, and fill the gap on the outside. To achieve that, I decided to get a minute track meant for skeleton dial builds, and to combine it with the Citizen Walter Wolf Racing dial. For the hands, I wanted something that would fit the instrument panel of a race car, and hence the simple red second hand that is inspired by racing tachometers. The completed "heart" of the watch! With the intention of it as a driving watch, I opted for a simple slim case. And by now you should have noticed the weird orientation of the dial, and the crown. You see, without a date window, I have the freedom to play around with the clocking of the dial (and the entire movement essentially). I've chose to have the crown on the left side so that it doesn't dig into my wrist (I'll be wearing the watch on my left hand), as for the dial position... Pictured here is a driving watch from Vacheron Constantin, very expensive stuff, but hey, that isn't the point. Now, looking at this image, you can probably already understand the reason for the dial's position - it is so that the face remains upright when you are holding a steering wheel, or when you are riding a bike. So there we have it! A 1 of 1 motorsport inspired driving watch that I built myself! Here's a shot of the display caseback, showing off the movement in its full glory - Zhi Xuan
  3. Any website to recommend ?
  4. As everyone knows, Singapore and Malaysia are currently experiencing a prolonged dry spell. While everyone is talking about saving water, the heat, the brown grass and the Malaysians are worrying about water rationing, I feel that everyone needs to be reminded of the dangers we will face once it does rain. Most of us will remember that the roads are most slippery when it just begins to rain as the accumulated oils/grease/grime that has settled into the asphalt will start to get dislodged and start to rise up to the surface. After 10-15 minutes of rain this tends to get washed off, especially in heavy rain. At some junctions that see a lot of heavy vehicle traffic, you might even see a rainbow sheen of oil on the road surface when it starts to rain (or if some truck has a leaky diesel tank/fuel line/hydraulic lines/grease boots/etc etc). Although this is not new information, we are used to dealing with roads that are "flushed" on a regular basis (sometimes daily) due to our tropical weather. When we finally do get rain, please keep in mind that you will be driving on roads that will not have been "flushed" for weeks. As such we can expect a lot more accumulated oil being released and more slippery roads, possibly for a longer time as well. As such I would like to remind all road users (drivers/motorcyclists/cyclists) to be extra careful if you are on the roads when we finally do get some rain. If possible it might be wiser to stop for awhile because all the fancy tires, traction control systems, awd, abs, etc etc are not going to help you if you hit a big patch of oil. Hopefully we get rain soon and that the first rainfall will be a prolonged and heavy one over the entire island to give our roads a good flushing.

  8. OK, this is not just about any luxury watch, but a rare one which has unique features not found in any similar product. All watch lover / collector / critic, let me have you thought. Jacob & Co. Launch New Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon, Sporting a 16-Cylinder Engine Jacob & Co. have just debuted a new watch that actually adds some horsepower to your wrist. The new Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon features a 16-cylinder “engine” that actually turns, prompting the 16 pistons to move up and down just like an engine. It even has two turbochargers that rest on either side of the engine block spin when the engine is running. The entire movement of this watch consists of 578 components, making it an incredibly complicated watch. Although, you really didn’t need to know that in order to figure out this is a complex piece of art. It actually took Jacob & Co. just about a full year to develop this watch and its complex movement. Check out the video below form Jacob & Co. where you can learn all about the watch. This is a watch that any Bugatti Chiron owner should add to their collection.
  9. Unfortunately, my house no cable TV. Wondering where I can sneak out to watch tomorrow's match?
  10. just a facebook post i saw and thought itl be good to share here for those with elderly parents n never knew abt this function cos i dont. i dont have an apple watch too becos im using android. it might be useful for those with elderly parents. track their location?? setup the hard fall detection. now my question is the watch is badly damaged on the face hence it can detect a hard fall but when if the person falls and hit the head without damaging the watch can it still detect? this is still an interesting device to have. always thought it was way too overpriced. there are some cheap smart watches in the market but mayb not withthe same capabilities as the apple watch apple fall detection If Apple Watch Series 4 or later detects a hard fall while you're wearing your watch, it taps you on the wrist, sounds an alarm, and displays an alert. You can choose to contact emergency services or dismiss the alert by pressing the Digital Crown, tapping Close in the upper-left corner, or tapping "I'm OK." If your Apple Watch detects that you're moving, it waits for you to respond to the alert and won't automatically call emergency services. If your watch detects that you have been immobile for about a minute, it will make the call automatically. After the call ends, your watch sends a message to your emergency contacts with your location letting them know that your watch detected a hard fall and dialed emergency services. Your watch gets your emergency contacts from your Medical ID. Some countries and regions have multiple emergency service numbers. For these countries, Apple Watch will call the number associated with ambulance services. What happens if your Apple Watch detects that you're immobile If your Apple Watch detects that you're immobile for about a minute, it begins a 30-second countdown, while tapping you on the wrist and sounding an alert. The alert gets louder, so that you or someone nearby can hear it. If you don't want to call emergency services, tap Cancel. When the countdown ends, your Apple Watch automatically contacts emergency services. When the call connects, your Apple Watch plays an audio message that informs emergency services that your Apple Watch detected a hard fall and then it shares your current location as latitude and longitude coordinates. The first time the message plays, the audio is at full volume, but then the volume is reduced so that you, or someone nearby, can talk to the responder. The message continues to play until you tap Stop Recorded Message or the call ends. Turn fall detection on or off Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, then tap the My Watch tab. Tap Emergency SOS. Turn Fall Detection on or off. If you've entered your age when you set up your Apple Watch or in the Health app and you're age 65 and over, this feature automatically turns on. Apple Watch cannot detect all falls. The more physically active you are, the more likely you are to trigger fall detection due to high impact activity that can appear to be a fall. Set up your Medical ID and add emergency contacts Open Settings on your iPhone, then tap Health > Medical ID. Tap Edit. Enter your date of birth and other health information. To add an emergency contact, tap the add button under emergency contacts. Tap a contact, then add their relationship. To remove an emergency contact, tap the remove button next to the contact, then tap Delete. To make your Medical ID available from the Lock screen, turn on Show When Locked. In an emergency, this gives information to people who want to help. Tap Done. You can't set emergency services as an emergency contact. other advantages of having an apple watch - fitness tracker - easier to find iphone, tap a button and get a "ping" sound even if your phone set to silent - customise list of things to notify you about. 11. 2018 was marked by sequels which helped keep the movie industry in the black. Without them, things will be more bleak? What will you watch? For me, I have lined up: - Avengers Infinity War II - Captain Marvel There will be more, but I like the big blockbusters when I visit the cinemas... How about you?

  15. Today, I learnt that it is imperative we check the battery that is sold to us when we have the battery of our precious watches replaced. Out of convenience, Wifey had the battery for her Omega watch changed less than six months ago at White Sands SC, which cost her $25. Over the weekend, the watch died on her. Our first thought was that an inferior battery was used. But our main worry was that the malfunction could be due to faulty mechanism. To allay our worries, we brought it to a watch shop in Loyang Point. I trust the proprietor because my Tag Heuer's battery was replaced by him more than a year ago and the watch is still working fine. It was at the shop I learnt something disturbing. The guy removed the battery and showed me that it had leaked, staining part of the internal component. He said he would try his best to remove the leakage from the watch, hoping that the acid had not corroded the mechanism. Much to our relief, he was able to get the watch working again with a new battery. Phew! It seemed that the watch shop at White Sands is not the only unethical shop. I learnt from him that some watch shops in Tampines Central charge customers for a premium battery when the actual battery is of Japan origin, which typically cost only $5. Some are even more unscrupulous, to the extent of using those made in China. I wonder how prevalent is this practice in Singapore. So, it pays to be cynical sometimes. Where our watches are concerned, we should inspect the battery before it is inserted into our beloved watches.

Ok Now who is gonna take the leap For me, it is a no brainer. I believe it would be coupled sometime with BP monitoring and that would be good considering my condition. Other things are analytics of my tennis game/progress etc. Maybe not immediately, but as and when the system stabilises and matures! http://youtu.be/ktujsc4ZUTo

  23. Hi all i was searching for good deal for the MRG 770BD. Its a cheaper alternative to the MRG G1000. This is the watch on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8i9Wh8_O1A And it also looks like this in other ebay adverts. But i came across this ebay ad and really wonder if its the same watch, or whether its some cheap replica being passed on as a authentic MRG: http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/331608525535?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT This ebay "MRG" looks hideous and nothing like the versions on youtube or on other ebay ads and pics. Is it just me or do the other bros here also feel the same way? Thanks for your comments. And pls also let me have your recommendations on this watch and where i can get a local source for purchase? thanks
