At 142,854sqm of gross floor area, Vivocity is the largest shopping mall in Singapore. And, it has an appropriately gigantic carpark to go with it. Manoeuvrability: Tight or not? Other than the slightly tight ramps getting into and out of the carpark, there should be no issues whatsoever. The carpark itself is generally quite wide, really big, it's mono-directional traffic throughout (and the 'lane' quite wide) and there aren't any tight corners at all. 8/10 Ease of navigation: Confusing or not? Now, the Vivo carpark can be confusing for a few reasons. Firstly, there are both overground and underground carparks - the underground one has two entrances, the overground one only one. The overground one is simple enough - not that many lots per floor (there are many floors though), but a basic rectangular shape. The underground one can be more confusing. It primarily stems from the fact that it is huge, and there are in effect two distinct parts that are connected by something like a loading bay area. There are also a ton of different lift/elevator lobbies (I distinctly remember the alphabets going up to K, but there's a photo below of Lobby L, so clearly even I underestimated 😵), so you would be wise to note down where you parked, or take a photo. One other thing - the exit signs are misleading. They aren't very clear and seem to be on almost every sign board, so you could end up going in circles trying to find the exit (especially towards the harbourfront side, I think). And the actual turn off from the main 'lane' to the exit is not immediately obvious. Overall, it's not the easiest carpark to navigate, and you could argue that it's perhaps a little too big for its own good. 5/10 Lot availability: Crowded or not? The carpark is huuuuuuuge, with over 2,000 lots available. Lot availability should never be an issue, though getting a "good" lot, now that's much more difficult. Vivo is typically crowded no matter the day and time, so getting a lot near your preferred lobby might be tricky. 8/10 Cost: Expensive of not? $1.60 per hour on weekdays, $2 per hour on weekends. Per entry parking from 6:00pm to 4:00am, then a weird $2.50 an hour from 4:00am to 7:00am. Not quite sure who's going to Vivo at those timings (guessing it's possible overnighters in Sentosa?). It's not cheap, certainly, but not obnoxiously expensive either. And let's be honest, it’s not like you have that many alternative choices. You could park opposite at Seah Im, but it's not that much cheaper, and I certainly don't think it's worth the extra walk. 6/10 EV Chargers: Can charge or not? 4 EV lots at B2, which seems shockingly few compared to the overall carpark size and density. Still, at least they exist. 5/10 Motorcycle lots: Bike-friendly or not? Plenty of bike lots, though it's worth pointing out that it can get pricey (for bikers, that is) if you park there for an extended amount of time. It's $1.20 for the first 3 hours, then $1.20 for every subsequent hour after. If you're spending a whole day at Sentosa (damn you Sentosa for banning bikes), then that adds up quickly. 6/10 Accessibility: Can find or not? First timers may be confused if trying specifically to get to the overground multi-storey carpark (you have to enter via Telok Blangah Road and go alongside the taxi queue), but otherwise it's not hard at all. 7/10 Overall design: Good or not? As a whole, the VivoCity carpark is quite friendly - lots of space. One or two things can be slightly tricky (finding your way to the correct exit), and you may take a bit more time to find your car if you can't remember where exactly you parked (because the carpark is so huge), but otherwise you should have no problems at all! 7/10 ~ Desmond

A Stomper alerted Stomp to the incident after receiving photos of the body from a colleague. In response to a Stomp query, the police said they were alerted to a case of unnatural death at 1 Harbourfront Walk at 10.33am. "The body of a 57-year-old woman was retrieved and she was pronounced dead at scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic," a police spokesman said. Police investigations are ongoing.

No supermarket at VivoCity for several months; FairPrice Xtra to open by Q3 2019 When the Giant hypermarket in VivoCity mall shuts on Feb 17, patrons will find the shopping complex devoid of a supermarket for several months until rival chain NTUC FairPrice opens its biggest store there later this year. VivoCity houses another supermarket, Cold Storage, but it too will shut on the same day, TODAY has learnt. Giant and Cold Storage are managed by retail group Dairy Farm. TODAY reported in September last year on the closure of Giant at VivoCity. The outlet, which was spread over two levels, opened in 2006 and is among the mall’s anchor tenants. FairPrice, the largest supermarket chain here, is set to take over the space by the third quarter of this year. The FairPrice Xtra outlet, spanning 90,000 sq ft, will be its largest in Singapore. A FairPrice spokesperson said the store will boast “unique features” but did not elaborate. In October last year, Ms Sharon Lim, the chief executive officer of Mapletree Commercial Trust Management — which oversees VivoCity — said FairPrice will bring a “new integrated concept” to cater to the varied needs of shoppers, and this is expected to improve the mall’s offerings. With only a fortnight before the Giant outlet shuts, regular patrons told TODAY on Friday (Feb 1) that they would be inconvenienced and would have to visit other supermarkets. Housewife Maria Peter, 57, visits the hypermarket several times a week and was sad to see it go. “The store has a good variety of produce and the prices are reasonable. It’s very upsetting,” said Mrs Peter, a Tiong Bahru resident. After the store shuts, she will have to shop at the FairPrice Finest supermarket at Tiong Bahru Plaza or visit the Giant Express store at Jalan Membina in Bukit Merah. Mr James Fernandez, 59, frequents Giant’s VivoCity outlet because of its range of offerings. “I prefer this store because of the choices and quality, and they refresh it pretty often. It’s very difficult to replace,” said the part-time lecturer. He will go to a FairPrice outlet at Bukit Merah after the hypermarket shuts. Mr Fernandez said he may have fewer reasons to visit VivoCity in future, as “there is no reason to come here except to eat”. A resident of Sentosa who wanted to be known only as Mrs Tan, 55, said she may turn to online grocer RedMart or visit supermarkets in Telok Blangah and Pasir Panjang. She was surprised that FairPrice would open its outlet only several months later. Giant’s closure of its VivoCity hypermarket comes after it shut two stores in Bukit Panjang and Jalan Tenteram in Whampoa estate last year, TODAY reported previously. The chain is also reviewing if business will remain viable in at least three other stores. The outlets — at The Grandstand mall on Turf Club Road, Block 512 on Bishan Street 13, and Block 118 on Aljunied Avenue 2 — are being reviewed for lease renewals and store performance, among other considerations. When approached on Friday, a spokesperson for Dairy Farm said the business has progressively redeployed its employees from its VivoCity outlets to other stores. A “core team” remains at VivoCity to serve patrons. The spokesperson did not say if other stores will be shutting this year, but noted that the company reviews its strategy continually and adjusts its “portfolio mix to meet the evolving tastes and demands” of its customers. “For us, this is business as usual.” OFFER AN EXPERIENCE In the first half of last year, operating profit for Dairy Farm’s hypermarket and supermarket businesses dropped to US$33.2 million (S$44.8 million) from US$71.3 million in the same period the year before. Dr Michael Chiam, a senior tourism lecturer at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, suggested it could make shopping more experiential by setting up a cafe or conducting cooking lessons in its stores, for instance. Mr Samuel Tan, course manager of the retail management diploma at Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Business, said Giant could be competing with players targeting similar customers and with similar product sources, such as Sheng Siong, another supermarket chain. Hence, it needs to reinvent itself by introducing more house brands or exclusive products. As for the future FairPrice Xtra outlet in VivoCity, Dr Chiam said it could consider a lifestyle theme and feature an in-store cafe. “Customers could select the ingredients found in the supermarket and the cafe offers to cook (a dish) for them at a fee,” he said. Mr Tan noted that FairPrice has been testing ideas at its Paya Lebar store, where shoppers can collect their purchases at a pick-up point, for instance. It could build on the concept at VivoCity, enabling consumers to scan a product or quick-response code to better understand the product, its possible uses or cooking methods, he said. “Fresh food from farms, ready food with seasoning and dine-in options could be considered as part of the shopper’s experience,” Mr Tan added.

i was at Toast Box in Viviocity, having coffee break, and I was ordering my items. Suddenly I noticed that all the staff serving are all Filipinos; from the cashier to the people making the food items (nasi lemak, laksa, etc) to the guys clearing the tables. All foreigners. My question is WHY? Are all our locals aleady being employed? No one to be employed? How about the marine parade resident? Is our garment blind to this? Do we need to do something today to make a change?

I was stucked at level 6 carpark today (27 Nov 09) at 5.30pm. I only managed to reached the spiral slope at about 6.30pm and exited to main road at about 6.40pm. Anyone was stucked as well? I saw quite a few people gave up waiting, parked their cars and made their way back to the mall. Stupid location of the carpark exit. Those who want to turn right to travel eastwards have to wait forever for the road to clear before they can cut out. Stupid design of the carpark entrance and exit at the spiral slope. Cars that are leaving blocked by cars coming in to park. And cars coming to park are blocked by cars leaving. This is the first time i kenna stuck at a "jam" for more than 1 hour. I was so tempted to call the traffic hotline to warn motorists of the jam at vivocity carpark, when i heard over class95 that the roads were clear. [furious]

Went Vivocity few weekends back, evening time, crowded basement carpark, normal la... Went to B2 coz B1 shows super minimal lots, turned few rounds and heard construction work going on, the drilling la, knocking la this and that, did not bother lor not my bizness... After few rounds at B2 gave up liao, no lots so went up to B1 and as i exited the ramp to the B1 car park to my horror i saw the roof near the motor lots started to break and cement, stones and all started to fall, and not the 1,2 pieces kind and a rain of it, hitting the motor bikes parked there... in this case the motorcyclist can claim right? The motor bikes were damaged, stones and all leh fell on it...

today i park my car in vivocity carpark for lunch. I came back to my car after lunch and saw my foglight dangling out . Then the bumper slightly damaged. I guess must be a car knocked my front while reversing. I went to the vivocity carpark management and they didn't let me view the security camera. I make a police report today hoping the police can get hold of the video. What should i do now ? Wait for the police investigation report before repairing or repair now out of my own pocket ?

car battery dead at vivocity, I called Komoco helpline, $141.85 to come down and change the battery. I called my insurance (China Insurance) breakdown service agent - K Kim Hin, fast and efficient, only $90, why the difference of $50? Was thinking, when my car hit 40k and since its over 3yrs liao, shall i send outside for servicing instead of going back to Komoco? Thanks.
