From helping you to get to work on time, to assisting with the everyday grind, there's many reasons why the Volkswagen R-Line cars are everyday heroes. Whether it is additional style or an extra touch of practicality, the Volkswagen R-Line cars are always ready to deliver whatever you may need on every journey. Here's why we think they ought to be labelled as everyday heroes. Always ready and brimming with style No superhero attends to a crisis without their costume on, and the Volkswagen R-Line cars are no different. Fully equipped with attractive cosmetic touches, the Volkswagen R-Line cars will give you that added touch of style anywhere you go, so you're always ready, whether it is the company gala you're attending, or a visit to the in-laws. Take, for example, the Golf R-Line, which comes equipped with an additional LED light strip across its front grille. This additional touch also comes paired with a black headliner alongside stainless steel pedals within its cabin, allowing you to make a bold and fashionable statement wherever you go. And backing this stylish exterior of the Golf R-line are semi-bucket sports seats and touch-haptic controls on the steering wheel, all coupled with a sportier suspension setup, and a lowered ride height, bringing you a sportier driving experience that's close to what you get in the Golf GTI, but without paying a significant premium over a regular Golf. on drive And for those that truly want to look the part wherever they go, there's also the Arteon R-Line to consider. Taking the already sleek lines of the regular Arteon to a whole new level, the Arteon R-Line comes complete with LED matrix head lights with an LED-lighted front grille, while the distinct bumpers and gloss black intakes are all the perfect complement to the car's sleek profile. And in the cabin, there's also a 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment system and a nifty sunroof, enhancing every drive. on grass Keeping you flying above the city But of course, you'd expect more than just style from your superhero. There's got to be strong ability behind those looks as well. And the Volkswagen R-Line cars are no different either. On the Volkswagen Tiguan and Arteon, for example, opting for the R-Line car will net you the additional Dynamic Chassis Control feature. This means you get to adjust the damper settings on your car's suspension, allowing you to opt for a sportier ride for ensuring that you keep time wasted on the road to a minimum. And for those days where you'd rather simply unwind from the stress of the day as you make your way home, setting the system into its default modes will ensure a smooth drive that feels as if you're flying above the city. What all this means is that you get different driving characteristics, all within the same car. Now that's great value! Doubling as your superhero lair And for all those times when home is still too far away, the R-Line cars also can serve as an alternative lair, offering the entire family shelter and a cosy place for a quick bite and refresh before hitting the road again. Drive the Touran R-Line, for example, and you can forget about having to bring along those bulky child seats, as the second row of the car already comes with two integrated and folding child seats. These of course, pair with the Touran's other practical features, which include folding tables behind the front seats and that Easy Open Tailgate, all designed to make every family journey easy. And when you're ready to hit the road again, you'll also do so with the highest levels of assurance, thanks to the long suite of safety systems available in the Volkswagen R-Line cars. Because that's what superheroes do - keep us safe. The Volkswagen T-Cross R-Line, for example, comes complete with features including Volkswagen's semi-automated Park Assist system, a total of six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, safety-optimised front head restraints, and ISOFIX mounting points for a total of three child seats, amongst others. And this is the smallest R-Line car we are talking about! Entertainment aplenty while you wait And you won't just be eating when you come to a stop either. The Volkswagen R-Line cars are also able to offer plenty of entertainment, so you can make a grand entrance wherever you arrive, fitting for any superhero. For the proper audiophiles, there's the Touareg R-Line to look at, complete with its Dynaudio Consequence sound system, which pairs 13 speakers via a 16-channel digital amplifier, as well as a subwoofer, for a total 730W of total output. And even if you opt to drive the R-Line Golf, Tiguan, or Arteon, all these cars also come with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, so you'll still be able to enjoy seamless pairing with your smartphone and take all your favourite tunes with you everywhere you go! All at a sensible premium But here's the best part: These R-Line cars don't even come at too sizable a premium against their regular brethren, so you don't have to be one of those billionaire heroes to be able to drive about in one. The Golf R-Line, for example, offers you plenty of additional features, while asking for just a $10,000 premium above the Life Plus-trim car. Want to catch more of Volkswagen's R-Line cars? You can always head on down to the Volkswagen Singapore showroom at 247 Alexandra Road, Singapore (159934) to see the lineup for yourself, or click here to book your own showroom appointment!

The Volkswagen Passat is a smart-looking executive sedan that offers all the right things. Take a gander into it and you'll surely be taken away by the roomy interior. But do not be mistaken, space isn't all that it has to offer. The Volkswagen Passat is a marvelous proposition that combines maximum practicality, comfort, luxury, and safety in a stylish package. Really, it is likely to be a better car than what you are used to. Executive styling for the sophisticated driver The experience of all cars starts with its exterior, and with the Passat, from the moment you set your eyes on one, you'll know that it is the right choice. With an adequately-sized chrome grille flanked by a pair of exquisite LED head lights separate LED daytime running lights and cornering lights, the front-end is reminiscent of other cars in Volkswagen's line-up. But what really stands out isn't the familiar front-end, it is the Passat's contours and distinct body lines, its long, lowered bonnet, short overhang and a long wheelbase which works together to create a distinct, elegant look. Ample space for passengers to travel in comfort Open the doors and you'll be greeted with a pleasant atmosphere with a strong sense of spaciousness - thanks to the high-quality materials and its massive interior space. Unlike most other sedans, the rear bench seats easily accommodate three, with a centre seat that is wide enough to accommodate an adult. Perhaps one of the Passat's strongest suits comes from its lengthy wheelbase, you'll see when you take a seat in it and notice the generous legroom, switch over to the rear and you might just start to wonder if you've wandered into the rear of a limousine instead. Apart from legroom, the Passat also offers excellent elbow room and headroom for all occupants. Cutting-edge systems offering maximum safety Up front, the Passat is equipped with a pair of outstanding head lights, casting a beam of a similar spectrum to that of daylight, illuminating the roads with excellent effectiveness while consuming less energy. The pair of automatic head lights is also packed with a simple yet useful 'Leaving Home' and 'Coming Home' feature, it illuminates your path to and from the car, providing an executive feel. At the rear, the Passat's tail lights features an innovative LED array that changes under braking - a design that is not only unique, but also results in a prominent indication of braking. Equipped with an advanced airbag system consisting of 6 airbags, including side impact airbags for the front seats and curtain airbags that protect both front and rear passengers, all occupants are well-protected during an accident. On top of the all-round protection offered by the airbags, the Passat is also equipped with multi-collision brake system that can limit the damage by detecting an accident and initiating the brakes to prevent further collisions. Driver fatigue has a huge impact on driving and safety, the Passat comes with a rest assist fatigue detection system which monitors driver behavior, noting any erratic steering movement and lane deviations and alerts the driver with a visual display on the dashboard, as well as a warning sound. Kick back, relax and enjoy a comfortable ride or drive While the capacious interior should've sealed the deal when it comes to travelling in comfort, the Passat offers more than just that. The driver gets an ergoComfort seat that is designed for maximum comfort. There is a vast array of adjustment options to ensure that you can have the perfect ergonomically supported seating position while the memory function allow you to replicate that setting every time you get in the seat. Long drives are no longer a concern with built in massage function for the driver. With three independently controlled temperature zones for the driver, front passenger and rear passengers, you can adjust the temperature to just what you like for ultimate comfort when on the road. The air conditioning system is also equipped with an active biogenic filter and automatic air recirculation to filter out allergens and keep the air quality at a consistently high level. Enjoy a calm and soothing experience when driving at night with the ambient lighting system, which also makes it easier for you to find your way around in the dark. Equipped with all you'll ever need for an enjoyable trip A capable executive sedan should be able to haul your family along on an enjoyable road trip, with its large, comfortable interior, the Passat is definitely capable of doing so. You'll also be able to carry all the luggage you'll need in its large 586-litre boot. Of course, space alone wouldn't suffice, the Passat offers more than just that. A high-resolution digital display provides all key information you need as you drive, meanwhile an 8.0-inch touch screen display with Bluetooth connectivity and 8 speakers provides all the entertainment you'll need for an excellent trip. Opt for the Highline trim and you'll get the 9.2-inch Discover Pro navigation system with an innovative gesture control. Powered by an efficient 1.8-litre TSI petrol engine, you'll get 178bhp on tap - overtaking will never be a concern, while enjoying a low fuel consumption of 16.9km/l. Mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox, power is delivered effectively, offering a balanced and smooth ride.

Hi all, I do not know where to post this but can anyone advise me on a reliable VW workshop in Singapore for servicing other than authorised agent? I have a used 2010 Passat CC and thought maybe I should send it for servicing now. How often must the 6 speed DSG gearbox be serviced? Will be good if anyone can share any good parts/brands such as engine oil, filters, etc. for the servicing.

Plug-in hybrids are gaining in popularity, with Ford, Toyota and Honda all offering vehicles fitted with the unique powertrains. But while cars like the Fusion Energi, Prius Plug-In and Accord Plug-In boast excellent economy numbers as they match the best assets of electric vehicles with traditional hybrids, they lack the zest and fun that some drivers crave. According to rumors from the UK, though, a fun plug-in could be on the horizon. Hoping to capitalize on the performance reputation of the GTI, Volkswagen is reportedly developing a car called the Golf GTE. Power would come from the same powertrain slated for the Audi A3 E-Tron, a 1.4-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder with 148 horsepower. Mated to that is a 107-horsepower electric motor, which draws power from an 8.8-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. A 6-speed, dual-clutch transmission would shift 204 total system horsepower to the front wheels, which will allow the GTE to hit 62 miles per hour in 7.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 135 mph. Outside of the unique powertrain, we'd expect the GTE to follow the same formula used for the diesel-powered Golf GTD - that means GTI-sourced bits for the suspension and brakes, as well as sportier interior and exterior treatments. It is unclear if this model will make it to Singapore market, but even if it does, we can only expect this model somewhere in late 2015.

Volkswagen may pull the plug on their award winning 'Twincharger' engine. The innovative supercharged and turbocharged 1.4liter engine that makes as much horsepower as a normally aspirated 2.0liter engine (but a whole lot more torque) has won 'Engine of the Year' twice (2009-2010) but this little feat has not stopped VW evaluating whether they should stop producing it due to expensive production costs. The sources inside VW said that while innovative and technically sound, the TSI forced induction engine isn't cheap to manufacture. Of course it isn't. You have to be quite blind if you don't see the complexity in the dual type forced induction engine. It has to have the engine, a turbocharger and a supercharger. Most cars have an engine and one or the other item. Having three major power making components is certainly more costly than having two components. Imagine if you make a million cars without a supercharger. The end result is that you save millions by not ordering a supercharger. The same source also says that VW now have the technology to ensure that a single turbocharged direct injection engine may have enough punch and tractability as a Twincharged one. Of course VW will make such a statement come true. But the reality is, it all boils down to cutting costs. Cutting costs is a large fact of life these days and it is especially true with large conglomerates like VW. Let's just wait and see what happens next. In the meantime, those of you that are thinking of getting a VW 1.4TSI Golf, Scirocco, Polo, you should go get one as you may never see such engineering innovation in a car again IF VW do decide to kill the Twincharger. source:autocar

Based on the Volkswagen NCC seen at the NAIAS in January, the new Jetta is much longer than the fifth-gen car. The latest sedan has a wheelbase that is seven centimeters longer, and a body that is nine centimeters longer than the outgoing model. As such, the car measures 4.64-meters long by 1.78-meters wide by 1.45-meters high and has a 2650-mm long wheelbase. Compared to the NCC, the new Jetta appears to have a shorter rear end, with a steeper rear windscreen. Although the car was developed to be more cost effective, the new Jetta will not share body parts with the VW Golf as it had in the past. In the States, customers will be able to choose from four different engines, including a brand new 138-horsepower 2.0-liter common rail TDI that produces a robust 320Nm of torque. Also new is the 114-horsepower entry level petrol engine. The other two petrol engines available in the US are the 2.5-liter unit producing 168 hp and a 2.0-liter TSI that generates 197 horsepower. Each of the two turbocharged units are available with a six-speed DSG transmission, though a manual transmission comes standard. Six engines will be available on the Euro-spec Jetta, four of which are new to the model. Two of the new engines are common rail turbodiesels, including the 1.6-liter TDI BlueMotion 103 hp and 138-hp 2.0-liter TDI . Also new are the 103-hp 1.2 TSI and 158-hp 1.4 TSI engines. All four of these will not be sold until 2011. Until then, the car will only be available with two TSI units: a 1.4-liter model kicking out 121 horsepower, and a 2.0-liter 197-hp model. Both 1.4-liter models will be mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission, while the 1.6- and 2.0-liter TDI, and 2.0-liter TSI can be hooked up to a six-speed DSG. Expect the Singapore spec'ed models to be similar to the existing Jetta sold here. My guess is that the new Jetta will reach our shore some time in 2011.
