Hi All, I am planning to upgrade my current 17" to 18" Rims. Anyone knows which are the most budget and reliable tyre brands that I can get? I mean overall including the Rims as well. I am planning not to go beyond 1k as my budget is below 1k for everything. Hopefully anyone can help recommend any great workshop out there that can accommodate my budget for now... Thanks in advance!

I just wonder how do they managed to drive around in wet weather with bald tyres? I meant bald to the point where I can't see any threads near the edge of the tyre. On the center only left some faint looking lines. thread wear indicator very visible. Its almost like slicks already. Cause today just saw a car parked at my office there with such front tyres. I wonder how do they managed?

Hi folks! I have not seen related discussion before hence starting one. All EV drivers, please share your experiences and recommendations for tyres? I know most EVs are new in Singapore. Tesla, BYD, BMW I series, Mercedes EQ series, Audi e-tron series etc. EV cars are much heavier than ICE, tyres I guess have to use EV specific ones to achieve good comfort, performance and most importantly thread wear. I am currently driving BMW iX3, stock came with Yokohama, hence I am looking around. Explored tyrereviews and understand that Michelin , Bridgestone, Goodyear are the top 3 tyres, are they also good for EVs? Correct me if I am wrong. Hope to hear from you all! TIA

34% more potholes detected on Singapore roads in first 2 months of 2023 SINGAPORE – Blame your bumpier road commutes on the weather. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said it detected 1,123 potholes in the first two months of 2023 – 34 per cent, or 285, more than the same period in 2022 – due to the higher intensity of rain Singapore experienced during this time. But this year’s figure was far below that of 2021, when there were 3,318 potholes detected over the same period. The LTA was responding to a request for details from The Sunday Times following a question raised in Parliament by MP Melvin Yong (Radin Mas) on the prevalence of potholes on the roads. The LTA said that typically, during the dry season, it detects about 200 potholes a month. During the monsoon period, the number of potholes swells to between 800 and 1,000. Potholes may be discovered during the routine inspection of the 9,500 lane-kilometres under the LTA’s purview, as well as from reports submitted by the public. They form when water gets into cracks on the road surface. The LTA said the cracks, which result over time through wear and tear, are usually repaired as part of regular inspection, maintenance and road resurfacing work. When a pothole is detected, the repair would usually be done within 24 hours, the LTA said, assuming that the road surface is sufficiently dry for the work to be completed properly. During a wet spell, additional inspections are conducted, and more resources are deployed accordingly to expedite pothole repairs, it added. The LTA said that because of the more intense rainfall in recent years, it is also speeding up the localised resurfacing work on the slower lanes of roads, which tend to have a higher concentration of heavy vehicles and high traffic volume. “Should there be prolonged rainfall, we will first patch the affected road temporarily to ensure safety and wait for the weather to improve before carrying out the conventional, long-lasting rectification”, the authority added. The LTA urges the public to report road defects such as potholes through its website (www.lta.com.sg), the “Snap & Send” function on the MyTransport.SG mobile application or the Municipal Services Office’s OneService application. It is important for the repairs to be done quickly. The Automobile Association of Singapore (AAS) said that once a pothole forms, it can easily grow in size and depth as passing vehicles further wear down the surface, while rain and flooding can wash away the worn surface. To avoid hitting potholes, the AAS advises motorists to look beyond the vehicle that is directly ahead. It also advises drivers against swerving their vehicle to dodge potholes as they may lose control of their vehicle or put themselves in the path of other vehicles. If there is no way around a pothole, the best practice is to slow down and “coast over” the pothole, while maintaining a firm grip on the steering wheel to avoid losing control of the vehicle. In particular, the AAS said that motorists should not jam on the brakes when their vehicle is already going over the pothole as this will cause the vehicle to nosedive, potentially causing damage to the vehicle. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/34-more-potholes-detected-on-singapore-roads-in-first-2-months-of-2023 already a lot of ongoing road works by SP, Singtel, Starhub etc etc, and now potholes. car suspension system really taking a beating.

Got my tyres from Edmund this morning. The moment I arrived, the 3 staff all jumped out of their seats and attended to me seriously quick (not to extort money from me lah) and checked which tyres I want, size, etc and their recommendations (only upon me asking; NO cross selling or pushy sales talk). After I have confirmed the tyres I wanted they got down to work really fast! Led me to the lounge and got to work; you can see them working on it while relaxing in the air con lounge. Seriously efficient workers. Really like an F1 pitstop LOL. Then Edmund came; chatted for a while. And no extra charges on credit card payments! No pushy sales talk, cross selling etc. Then the best part. Free rotation, free nitrogen for lifetime of tires. I hope you guys will not go there and jam up the place LOL. edit: should be along whitley road.... but it's the stevens road exit along PIE straight after Catholic JC; next to the pet hospital.

Saw my TPMS rear right slight leaking from 2.6 kpa drop to 2.4 the next day. Send my car to 88 Auto at Macpherson rd, very good service. Closing soon at 5pm...they remove tyre and bubble check, saw 2 small short nails so patch this 2. Another 2 like stapler size was remove but no leak. Paid $15 only on a Sunday evening....was surprised by the cost and passionate attitude of the worker. Would recommend anybody to patronise them. Well done!!

SINGAPORE – It is a delivery run for the history books, with the public getting its first look in Singapore at a van fitted with puncture-proof tyres as it made its way from the DHL Express office in Tai Seng Drive to Potong Pasir. Right from the get-go, onlookers’ eyes were drawn to the prototype tyres, which look visibly different from conventional ones. The tyres have sturdy rubbery strut-like structures to keep them propped up, instead of being filled with air. By the end of 2023, DHL Express will have around 50 vans fitted with such tyres as part of a trial by French tyre maker Michelin. The test will run until 2025, following smaller-scale tests under controlled conditions here, which The Straits Times reported on in December 2022. The tyres looked slightly compressed under the weight of the van but Michelin said this is how they usually look. The imprint at the edge of the tyres indicates that they can each bear a maximum load of 650kg. Besides Singapore, the puncture-proof tyre technology is also being tested in Thailand and the United States. Michelin said the puncture-proof tyres last as long as conventional tyres. It said it is also researching the use of 3D-printing technology to add new materials onto a worn tyre, extending its service life and reducing waste. The tyre company estimated that globally, 20 per cent of tyres on the road are taken out of service before they are fully worn because of flats, blowouts or irregular wear and tear when they are not pumped to the right amount of air pressure. Michelin said this means its puncture-proof tyres could save up to 200 million tyres annually from being prematurely scrapped. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/first-van-with-puncture-proof-tyres-hits-the-road-in-singapore If you have trypophobia, don't click on the video. 😢

I just change my rims to 225/17/50 profile for my 17" OZ Leggera HLT 8J, is this the correct size? I wanted 215 width but Auto Kinetic says 225 is "Fuller" look. Don't quite understand. Any expert advice please? Thanks!

Hi Guys, got a question and need advice here. lets say car is FWD/RWD, rotate tyre at 10k. does it make sense to rotate next at 30k? since at 10k, lets say front tyre wear 20% and rear 10%, so after rotating and mileage at 20k, should be front and rear balanced, right? i know driving style play a part during the 10-20k, just saying generally.

I'm driving a Mazda CX-8 (6 seater) on stock 225/55/R19. Thinking to change tyres soon at AD because I have some vouchers to offset the cost but they only have Yokohama RV02 and Bridgestone Alenza. Need some feedback on which one should I go for. My criteria (in order of priority): 1. Quietness 2. Comfort 3. I don't need super grippy tyres but standard decent grip is fine. Thank you everyone in advance!

Tyres are crucial to your safety, get them replaced by the professionals you trust
Deeq posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Think you need a new set of tyres? Just leave it to the professionals at Borneo Motors and Champion Motors to sort it out - you deserve to drive with peace of mind. Text and photos by Goh Zhi Xuan You’ve probably heard and read about this a dozen times, but I’ll reiterate, tyres are the most important part on any wheeled vehicle. Think about it, they are the only point of contact between your car and the road. The tyres are the ones doing the heavy lifting to keep you safe and sound while driving down the roads, and that’s why you would want the best when it comes to them. If you are driving a Lexus, Toyota or Suzuki, here’s some great news. You won’t have much to worry about the tyres on your cars, Borneo Motors (BMS) and Champion Motors (CMS) now offer the most comprehensive tyre protection programme in the industry - Total Tyre Shield. Strict quality control that you can trust There are no better people than the skilled technicians at your Authorised Distributor (AD) to entrust the important job of maintaining your car. Needless to say, when it comes to something as important as tyres, you’ll do well with the same trusted bunch. Trained and certified by the respective manufacturers, experts at your AD would have the intrinsic knowledge on every nook and cranny, and knows just how to keep your car running perfectly and safely. When you entrust your car to the AD you can be sure that only the adequate size and type of tyre for your car will be recommended, ensuring a safe and fuss-free driving experience. With the strict quality control in place as well as the knowledge on proper storage of tyres, you wouldn’t have to worry about the condition of the tyres that you are getting – with BMS and CMS, quality is assured. Exceptional value It’s not just quality that you’ll get, Borneo Motors and Champion Motors are determined to offer the best value to its customers as well. There’s really no need to shop around for tyres when you can get such a great deal with the AD. If you have a preferred brand, you’ll be glad to know that there are several brands of tyres for you to choose from. BMS and CMS works directly with the distributors of the tyre brands, not only does this open up a range of tyres to best fit your needs, it also enables them to minimise your tyre costs. And the cost savings is clear to see - tyres for Toyota and Suzuki cars begin at just $96 per piece. Meanwhile, drivers of Lexus cars can get their new tyres from as low as $160. The best part of getting your new tyres from BMS or CMS, is the Total Tyre Shield programme that you’ll automatically get to enjoy when you purchase a fresh set of tyre from them. Total Tyre Shield allows you to drive with peace of mind What is Total Tyre Shield? Well, think of it as an insurance plan for your tyres. Total Tyre Shield offers unlimited coverage on three important services to ensure the longevity of a set of tyres - puncture repair, rotation and wheel balancing, when you purchase a fresh set of tyres. Encountering punctures on your tyres can be a frustrating experience. If you were to leave it be, and drive on low tyre pressure unknowingly, you will risk damaging your tyres and may even endanger your own life should the tyre fail catastrophically. That is why you should get punctures repaired as soon as possible. While tyres are expected to last between 40,000km and 50,000km, or an average lifetime of three years in normal circumstances, this is only achievable with routine tyre rotation, each time you service your car, to ensure even tyre wear. Do not slight the importance of wheel balancing. An unbalanced wheel can result in many problems, it can result in steering vibration, affecting the handling of your car, it can also cause uneven tyre wear, once again shortening the lifespan of your tyres. When you purchase a fresh set of tyres for your Lexus, Toyota or Suzuki from Borneo Motors or Champion Motors, you won’t have to worry about paying for the maintenance of your car’s tyres - everything you need to stay safe on the road is included with your tyre purchase. Tyres are important, don’t wait any longer. Contact BMS or CMS today to make an appointment for a set of fresh tyres! -

I see Pirelli Cinturato P7 topped the test done in Europe over afew of the more popular tyres. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2010-...r-Tyre-Test.htm I seldom see people discussing about this tyre. Anyone using this can comment?
