http://en.rocketnews24.com/2015/01/13/youll-never-guess-what-these-chinese-students-are-lining-up-for/ You’ll never guess what these Chinese students are lining up for! Hayashi 'Fang' Hougi6 hours ago 0 Ever since Mr. Sato returned from his annual overnight vigil to obtain an Apple Lucky Bag, we learned that humans are able to withstand adverse conditions in queues driven solely by their utmost desire for something. Just look at these Apple lovers who braved snowfor their favorite brand! So when you see these students in China lining up, we bet your guess is that they are getting $1 TVs…or concert tickets for the latest K-pop star…or perhaps a free iPhone. The answer, however, is none of the above; these students are in fact lining up to… …get into the library! What you see are students from the Nanjing University of Finance and Economics queuing up, not for free food or a sale, but to get a spot in the library so they can study for their finals! The pictures were taken at about 7:40 AM and the diligent crowd has formed into long, snaking lines leading to the doors of the library. Note that in Nanjing the temperature drops to 2℃ (35°F) and the grass and leaves around the building were all covered in frost. As the final exams draw near, many students find themselves most productive when studying in the warm library. In order to meet student demands, the school has extended library hours and also dispatched staff members to manage the lines so that students can waste no time in getting into the library in an orderly fashion. As someone whose primary activity in the library has always been napping, I am starting to feel a little ashamed of myself for not studying harder. Maybe it’s time I hit up my school library which doesn’t require freezing in a queue to get into. Did this inspire you to work just a little harder?

Can anyone help to translate what this Ah Tiong posted? I like the bold part. I can roughly understand what the poster is saying in Chinese. I doubt I can eloquently translate to English though. For e.g: how do you translate "挂羊头卖狗肉"?

This 43 year old Mrs Zhang from China enrolled her daughter in a private school. For some reason, she wanted the school fees returned but was unsuccessful. Feeling helpless, she went to the Istana hoping to find an official she could talk too. The woman held a lighter in her hand and even drenched her head with some flammable liquid. She was arrested and is currently out on bail

First the Bus and now Taxi...... Chance upon this from another forum...is it true that we are engaging ah tiong as taxi driver now... It's crazy to allow PR to drive taxis. They won't know the route & struggling with high pitched sing song Mandarin is more than enough in food courts, please not taxi drivers. Let me recount my personal experieince sometime last year September. I board a taxi @ Novena taxi stand (Comfort taxi). I spoke to the driver in English, "UE Square". Then sensing no response. I switch to Mandarin. Then all the way no response from driver. However i can sense he does not quite understand my Mandarin as he often get my instructions wrong and cutting lanes without signalling as he is hesitating. Then instead of turning right then left into the taxi stand at my destination, driver over shot and I losing my patience by then nearly scream for him to stop. He just turn around and give me a "funny quizzicial look". & I purposely asked him how much is the fare. He point at the meter. I refuse to bulge and ask again. This time, he got no choice but to reply me in deeply china accented Mandarin, "Wu guai chi mao". I immediately knew my instincts are correct. I got fed-up and shot him a parting shot, "NO wonder, so *****s driver". Alot of people I spoke to argue that there is no China PR drivers in our midst, the truth is there is!! One Comfort driver (local quite elderly in his 50's) confirm this when I ask if there are really China PR taxi drivers. He said. "Yes, NTUC have a launch in China to recuit drivers not only bus but also taxi". However he is not sure which county. See? Bus driver frm China already confused and does not understand our elderly's request for help when they board buses. It's will be the same with taxis. Let's leave the option of being taxi drivers to the elderly who are still able bodied, reasonable good eye sight, healthy and those PHd holders who can't compete with Foreign garbbage degree holders and or any "pure bred" SIngaporeans who don't mind to drive taxi as a last resort if no jobs.

http://www.todayonline.com/Singapore...an-attacks-cop SINGAPORE - Angry that his flight had been delayed, a China national created a ruckus at Changi Airport and then attacked a police officer at Changi General Hospital (CGH) after being sent there for treatment. On July 5, student Fang Xiang, 28, was at Changi Airport Terminal 1 waiting to catch a flight at about 9.40am. He had flown to Singapore from Shanghai and was waiting to catch a connecting flight to Zurich, where he lives. Certis Cisco aviation security officer Lai Wei Chuen, 45, heard Fang shouting in the departure transit area. The officer approached him and Fang demanded to know why the gate was closed when he wanted to leave Singapore. The officer checked his boarding pass and told Fang he was supposed to be at Terminal 3, not Terminal 1. Fang walked away, still shouting. At about 10.25am, Fang dashed into a gate hold room and the airport police were called in. Fang was taken to CGH for a medical examination and put in a wheelchair. While an Airport Police Division officer, Sergeant Ryan Yam, was adjusting Fang's legs, Fang lashed out and kicked Sgt Yam in the chest. On Nov 18, Fang pleaded guilty to two charges of voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant and disorderly behaviour. He was convicted, jailed four months and fined $1,000. In mitigation, his lawyer, Ms Gloria James, said Fang's flight to Singapore had been delayed and so was his flight to Zurich. He lost sleep, which led to the incident. Four other charges of criminal trespass, using criminal force, voluntarily causing hurt and using criminal force on a public servant were taken into consideration.

Again : 2 China 'Scholars' Run Away from JC Just got this report on my table. 2 China scholars from Anderson Junior College were found absent from class for several days. When school staff checked their hostel, they found that the students had packed up and gone to USA! Apparently these 'smart' students found out that they don't need A level results to gain entry into US universities. They secretly applied for an American University. When they got accepted by one, bought their air-tickets and then run! What can the Singapore Government do? Sue them? Recover our money? They were not bonded wor. Many more foreign students will follow their example. These students were brought over to study in Secondary 3. Gifted? Many are older than our local Secondary 3 students. When I was in China recruiting students to study in Singapore, I often receive money sandwiched within the pages of application forms. Some Chinese parents mistook that I was recruiting ASEAN scholars for the Singapore Government. The highest amount I found was US$8,000. All the money was returned. Can you imagine when the real actual people go recruiting ...... Shockingly, these foreign ASEAN scholars only need to pass one subject to stay on. Not like Singaporean students, must pass English Language and another how many subjects ah? Our Government sets aside huge amounts of China Fund for schools to recruit these students. Now, I heard another Indian Fund is set up. Wow! Singaporeans are always the losers. http://forums.delphiforums.com/3in1k...s/?msg=21182.1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FTrash FTW!!!! Continuing from ah tiong whack sillyporean comes.......... Ah tiong langga sillyporean!!! http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews...917-237708.html --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A 16-year-old girl was knocked down by a SBS Transit bus service 63 on Wednesday morning along Circuit Road. The Deyi Secondary School girl was pinned under the bus for a few minutes until a passer-by - Mr Lim Choon Guan - pulled the girl to safety. Mr Lim was pushing his bicycle along the pavement nearby when he heard shouts coming from Circuit Road. He rushed to the scene and saw the girl lying conscious under the bus. He told The New Paper that the bus was still moving because the bus driver did not know he had hit someone until pedestrians gesticulated to him to stop. The girl was eventually lifted by Mr Lim and two other men to the nearby grass patch, and eventually brought to the hospital in an ambulance. Mr Lim also told Lianhe Wanbao that the bus driver seemed to be in his mid 30's and was a Chinese National.
