  1. I have a 6.5-year-old Qashqai J11 with a 1.2 DTG engine, and I'm dealing with a persistent DTC code P0597(13) indicating an open circuit in the thermostat heater control system. I've used an OBDII Bluetooth device to scan and manually reset the engine light, but it returns after 3 to 4 days. The car seems to be driving fine, and there's an added benefit of improved cooling from the air conditioning. I have a few questions: Is it safe to continue driving with this issue? How much does Tang Chong charge for replacing the thermostat housing? Can you recommend a workshop for this replacement, and what's the estimated cost? Thank you for your guidance.
  2. I did my thermostat change and cooling system flush today and when I removed the old thermostat out of the housing the bladdy thing snapped in two! 5yrs and although the car warms up and runs at normal temp, this breakage of the old thermostat spelled trouble if I had waited longer for the change. I guess 4-5yrs is a good time to change the thermostat, just my 2 cents.
  3. Just asking whats the benefits of using a low temp thermostat (if there is any). Cause mine is stucked open and I need to get it replaced.

  8. Hi all, Are you using a sports thermostat? I was told a sports thermostat opens and allows the radiator fluid to start flowing at a lower temperature thus keeping the engine cooler. Please advise on its usefulness. Thank you very much. Regards,

  10. Hi all, Just wondering, does changing a lowered temp radiator thermostat will improve performance? Be it FC or power...please advice, thank you.
  11. Is it alright to have the cooling system work properly without the thermostat? Any disadvantages?
  12. Important Warning: Removing the thermostat to increase water flow because your vehicle is overheating is dangerous to your engine and is NOT what you want to do. Not only does the engine take longer to warm up, causing excessive metal-to-metal wear, but once the engine does warm up it can get too hot because the thermostat also controls the length of time that the water is in the radiator so as to dissipate the heat to the atmosphere.
