The new generation of the Audi A5 will be officially revealed on June 2 with the company live-streaming the event online. The two-door version of the A4 is expected to be lighter by up to 100kg (220 pounds) and offer more room inside, courtesy of a longer wheelbase. The engine range will mirror that of the A4 as well, meaning a wide selection of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, with more expensive versions coming with either a petrol or a diesel V6 turbocharged unit. Audi has been teasing its new coupe with a series of animated gifs on its social media for a while now, revealing design details like the front headlight treatment and the curvy rear quarters of the bodywork. Features like the Virtual Cockpit digital display is also present as expected. Apart for the two-door bodystyle, the new A5 will also get a convertible and a Sportback variant. Audi has been caught testing the range-topping RS5 which is reportedly going to use a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 unit in the place of the naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8, with an output close to 500hp.

Singaporeans have always loved their sedans. Look at the amount of Mercedes-Benz and Toyota sedans on our roads if you aren't convinced. Not to be outdone, Audi introduced their A3 sedan with its 122bhp 1.4 TFSI engine. While its power output is nothing to shout about, it goes about providing the A3 sedan with plenty of low end torque (200Nm of it from 1,400rpm) to make merging into highways a stress-free experience. I personally felt the engine performed at its best if driven sedately. Revving the engine to its redline revealed slight breathlessness as with most turbo engines. . While the rest of my colleagues drove it pretty hard when we had the car, I tried a short eco-friendly run from the west to the central of singapore and I registered a similar 17km/L reading when we road tested the A3 Sportback. Riding softer than its hatch sibling, the sedan settles into a nice cruise at highway speeds. While the steering is not the best of its kind, it provides enough feedback to the driver and weighs well. Inside, it is business as usual for Audi with probably the best cabin in its class. Cabin space is decent but sitting three at the back might be slightly uncomfortable for long drives up North. We think the A3 would do well here with its handsome, crisp silhouette and a proper trunk. Seems like the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class just got itself a pretty decent rival!

This is a review of the brand new Audi A3 sedan, which replaces the A4 as the new entry level saloon for the Ingolstadt carmaker. The variant reviewed is the 1.4 TFSI which features COD (cylinder on demand), direct injection and turbocharging technologies. It produces 140bhp with 250Nm of torque and sends the small German sedan from 0 to 100km/h in 8.4 seconds. There are other engine options for the A3 sedan at launch which include a 2.0 TDI and 1.8 TFSI. The 1.4 TFSI variant reviewed should be the volume seller when it touches down in Singapore. The review is quite positive. The cabin is said to feel a lot more expensive than its price tag and the driving experience also matches a much more expensive car as the refinement is fantastic. At the end of the review, the reviewer even commented that the A3 sedan is a pretty good alternative to the Audi A4.

Audi A3 sedan officially launched at 2013 Shanghai Motor Show
SYF77 posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
After much anticipation, the all new Audi A3 sedan has made its world premiere at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show. The A3 sedan replaces the A4 as the new entry level sedan for the German brand. The A3 sedan is designed to ward off competition from the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and the upcoming BMW 1 Series sedan. The styling is very typical of Audi and one would not mistake it for any other makes. The baby Audi sedan measures 4,460mm long and 1,800mm wide with a wheelbase of 2,640mm. This makes the car shorter but wider than class competitor, the CLA. Base engine is a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol with 140bhp and 250Nm of torque. 0-100km/h is performed in a brisk 8.4 seconds while it sips fuel at 4.7L/100km. Range topper for the petrol version at the moment is a 1.8-litre TFSI with 180bhp and 250Nm of torque that allows the car to complete a century sprint in a timing of 7.3 seconds. Transmission options include a six-speed manual or seven-speed S-Tronic gearbox. A high performance S3 version that runs a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 296bhp is said to be in the pipeline. Although the spiritual successor of the Audi 80 is the A4, the A4 has grown so much that it is close to the size of the last Audi 100 that we have. Customers looking for a true compact, well built German sedan can now rejoice with the arrival of the A3 sedan. -
Previewed by the Audi A3 Concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the production version of the A3 sedan will be making its global debut at the upcoming 2013 Shanghai Auto Show come April. Audi CEO, Rupert Stadler, commented that the new model will be an important derivative which will stimulate additional growth, especially in China and the U.S. Perhaps this explains the sedan's debut in Shanghai. The A3 sedan will be a direct competitor to the Mercedes CLA. The A3 sedan will be built at the country of launch. Chinese press reports that the A3 sedan will be assembled at the FAW-VW joint venture that also manufactures a variety of Audi models. However, I believe there will be other manufacturing sites around the world. Measuring about 4,400mm long by 1,840mm wide by 1,390mm tall, the baby sedan will be built upon VW's MQB platform. The engine lineup is expected to be carried over from the 2013 A3 hatchback. This means a range of TFSI petrol power plants ranging from 1.4-litre to 2.0-litre as well as 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre TDI options. S-Tronic transmission is available as an option on all models. German aftermarket specialist, ABT Sportsline, has launched its latest tuning program for the facelifted Audi A4. The German tuning firm has termed its latest project as the AS4 and it is packed with substantial power and cosmetic upgrades. For a sportier appearance with improved aerodynamics, customers can order a front spoiler, side skirts, fender inserts, rear bumper insert, a sports exhaust system and a rear spoiler. The footwear can be ordered with either 19 or 20-inch alloy wheels. Under the hood, the 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder can be tuned to produce 271 hp as compared to the standard 208 hp in the stock version. The most powerful engine in the A4 line up, the 3.0-liter TFSI V6, can be upgraded to develop 429 hp - an increase of 101 hp. This enables the S4 model to sprint from 0-100 km/h in a mere 4.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 282 km/h. For the diesel-powered 3.0-liter TDI, the performance package boosted the output to 278 hp and 560 Nm of torque. Hans-Jürgen, CEO of the tuning firm, described the new tuning package as state-of-the art, combining with sportiness and assertiveness. For reader’s information, the ABT Singapore showroom is located at 1 Commonwealth Lane, #01-02 One Commonwealth Building.

The introduction of Volkswagen's VR6 engine in the early 1990s ushered a new era of vehicle powertrain usage. The narrow angle of the VR6 engine enabled Volkswagen to offer a wide range of applications where a traditional V engine would not normally fit. The "VR" name stands for "V-Reihenmotor," combining the German words for V-shaped and straight engines, and the "6" is the number of cylinders. The narrow design of the VR engine (item C, pictured above) has made the usage of the engine possible in compact, front-wheel drive cars. This enabled Volkswagen to offer the power and torque of a V6 engine in vehicles that a traditional six-cylinder wouldn't otherwise fit into. And now, with ever changing times, the German automaker are considering the future options for an engine with power levels of a six cylinder. One possible scenario is that Volkswagen will discontinue the VR6 and will use the turbocharged inline-five engine that we see in the Audi TT RS, according to a Volkswagen board member in charge of research and design. Another possibility is to use the VR6 engine in more vehicles; it is offered in several of Volkswagen models such as the Passat, Touareg and also in several vehicles in the Volkswagen Group. However, the naturally aspirated inline-five will soon be replaced in favour of the 1.8 litre turbocharged inline-four. Even if the turbocharged inline-five engine is used and slightly detuned from the original 360bhp and 465Nm of torque, the engine will still make more power than the VR6; even in the largest displacement version (3.6 litre generating around 280bhp). The reason why Volkswagen intends to replace the VR6 engine is due to the high production and import costs. It will not be financially feasible if less Volkswagen models use the VR6 engines. One possible future usage of the VR6 engine is the

Although Audi is busy with the introduction of its 2012 A4 Allroad model at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show, they have something up their sleeve. And that is the 2013 Audi A6 Allroad which they have announced just recently in Germany. Looks like the Audi A4 Allroad will get a big brother. Audi has adopted its Allroad recipe for the A6 by taking the A6 Avant and making it ready for the urban jungle. If you were to really compare the A6 Avant with the A6 Allroad, the Avant is a sleeker-looking vehicle and the Allroad is more suited for some rough and tough driving. Firstly, the Allroad

Audi has officially unveiled the 2012 A4 / S4 facelift, to rise up to the challenge of the all new BMW 3 Series. The refreshed A4s gain Audi's new six-point grille and sharper looking headlamps with LED daytime running lights that form a narrow band. Also new are redesigned front and rear bumpers and tweaked tail lights with LED strips. On the inside, the cabin gains a new steering wheel, revised trim and additional chrome accents. Other changes include an updated infotainment system. On the engine front, Audi says consumption levels have dropped by 11 percent on average, despite the increased power and torque of many of the engines. The A4 sedan and Avant will be offered with the new 1.8 liter TFSI petrol that delivers 170hp and 320 Nm of torque. In the sedan, it returns a combined fuel economy of 5.6 L/100 km with CO2 emission of 134 g/km. This represents a 19% decrease in consumption compared with the previous 160hp engine. The most potent engine available in the series is the 3.0 liter V6 TFSI that produces 272hp in the A4 and 333hp in the S4. The latter is available in both sedan and Avant variants. The S4 sedan sprints from 0 to 100km/h in 5.0 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h while returning an average fuel consumption of 8.0 L/100 km (I doubt any hot-blooded S4 driver would be able to achieve that!). The 1.8L version will be offered with a continuously variable multitronic transmission while Quattro versions will be mated to the 7 speed S tronic double clutch transmission. Audi added that the mounts of the rear suspension control arms are new and the characteristics of the shock absorbers have been re-tuned. The electromechanical power steering is also new in all models of the A4 series.

[extract] On reading the afternoon edition of TODAY on 14 Oct 11, I realized that the 2.0 liter turbo version of the Audi A6 has arrived. Finally, we get a more tax-friendly version of the German luxury sedan, which should make the car more sellable than the former base 2.8 liter FSI model. Should the Mercedes E200 CGI BlueEfficiency get worried? Well, it

The brand with four rings has released details regarding its completely revised 1.8 TFSI engine, which will be fitted in the updated Audi A5 family. The turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline unit comes as the base engine for Europe, and is capable of delivering 170 horsepower and 320Nm of torque, while returning a fuel consumption figure of 5.7L/100km. This means consumption has been reduced by 21 percent compared with the previous model engine. The revised A5 emits just 134g of CO2 per km. Coupled with a manual transmission, the 1.8 TFSI accelerates the Audi A5 Coupe from zero to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 230 km/h .

An Audi engine has earned a spot in the prestigious Ward's 10 Best Engines Award for the ninth time over the past 11 years. The listing for 2011 which was just released by Ward's named the 3.0 TFSI Supercharged DOHC V6 in the Audi S4 among the world's most advanced powertrains. This marks the second year in a row that the 3.0 TFSI engine in the Audi S4 made it to the Ward's list. In its 17th year, the Ward's 10 Best Engines competition is designed to recognize powertrains that set new benchmarks in their respective vehicle segments. "The one thing they have in common is they all are stand-out performers in their own way and sell the value proposition of the vehicles they power," said Drew Winter, editor-in-chief of Ward's AutoWorld magazine. Tom Murphy, executive editor of Ward's Auto World magazine, speaking for the editors who selected the Ward's 10 Best Engines had this to say about the Audi S4 supercharged V6:

Dear all, wondering if TFSI engines are more efficient than conventional engine of the same capacity. Any owners would like to share their experiences ?

The following is an article from GermanFanclub.com "The 2.0 TFSI delivers 170 bhp in the Audi A6. This free-revving, high-torque and, at the same time, economical engine combines petrol direct injection with a turbocharger. Audi was the first manufacturer to introduce this technology in series production. Boasting 280 Nm of torque, available across a wide speed range from 1800 to 4200 rpm, the FSI engine offers excellent pulling power at any time. The A6 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds and touches a top speed of 227 km/h. Its fuel consumption measures just 7.9 litres per 100 km." I believe this is a good alternative to the E200 and 520i in Singapore.
