  1. VW Singapore plots Skoda comeback Volkswagen-owned Czech brand Skoda is making a comeback, yet again. But this time, it is parent group Volkswagen which will do its own importing and retailing here. Volkswagen Group Singapore - the manufacturer-owned importer and retailer of Volkswagen vehicles here - has registered a new company for this purpose. According to the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, Skoda Centre Singapore was registered last month and will be operating out of 247 Alexandra Road, which is the same address as the VW showroom. The Straits Times understands renovations are being carried out at the facility and that Skoda Centre Singapore will start operations in the first quarter of next year. Volkswagen Group Singapore was not available for comment, but it is understood that a meaningful price differential will be in place to re-launch the Czech brand here. Previously, Skoda cars - which are based on Volkswagens - were the same price or even costlier than equivalent VW models. In other markets, Skodas are cheaper. The brand was last represented by Harvest Automobiles, part of businessman Peter Kwee's now dormant motor group of companies. Harvest Automobiles went bust in 2013 - the third Skoda agency to have failed in Singapore. The Straits Times understands Vertex Automobiles, the dealer for Chinese automobile brand Chery that is owned by egg trader Lian Fong, had made a pitch for the Skoda franchise. But it has since landed Seat, a Spanish brand also owned by Volkswagen Group. Skoda had also been courting Trans Eurokars, a multi-franchise group owned by businessman Karsono Kwee. Among its brands are Rolls-Royce, Porsche, Mini and Mazda. The best year for the Skoda brand here was 2010, when it sold 105 cars. That is less than 4 per cent of Volkswagen sales last year. Will the brand have better success under Volkswagen? Nanyang Business School's Adjunct Associate Professor Zafar Momin, previously an automotive expert with the Boston Consulting Group, said: "Skoda may be able to make a comeback in Singapore if priced and promoted properly. It needs to be very competitive with its Korean competitors in terms of pricing, as it could provide solid, competitive products targeted at value segments of the markets. "With VW Singapore now doing it themselves, it has a better chance than before. Having said that, I wonder what "comeback" really means in a small crowded Singapore car market which has small volumes for many non-mainstream brands. Would it really be worth the effort and to what extent would it cannibalise VW products?" When contacted back in 2014 - when Harvest Automobiles relinquished the business - Volkswagen Group Singapore said it had no plans to take over the Skoda retail business here. It has, however, taken over the maintenance and warranty of Skodas here. There are about 400 Skoda cars in Singapore today. As a onwer of both Skoda and VW model, I can attest that Skoda is indeed better, in almost every aspect, than VW. I can wait to welcome it back to Singapore!! Here are some interesting models in current Skoda lineup, that I hope can be made available to local motorist when sales start next year. Superb Superb Combi Kodiaq
  2. It will be available in both Liftback and estate version, while the next generation Passat will be available solely in estate form. For me, I will gladly take this estate variant, preferably in Scout trim (with >270 horsepower, 4x4 drive train, raised height,etc.). This heavily camouflaged prototype was caught testing with Czech registration plates without fake body panels or cladding. The proportions seem largely unchanged with the only notable difference probably being the slightly more sloped roofline. Underneath the skin, the architecture underpinning the new Superb will be an evolution of the MQB platform used by the current model. The production of the new Superb should begin next year at Volkswagen’s plant in Bratislava, Slovakia. In local context, that means end 2024 will be the earliest it will hit our shore.
  3. I recently headed to Scotland for a seven-day road trip with my sister, and it would be an understatement to say that we didn't do much planning ahead of time. Hell, I only packed my luggage about six hours before my outbound flight from Singapore. We figured that we could make it up along the way (and we pretty much did). If you're thinking of making plans for a road trip holiday to Scotland, here are seven tips that I have gleaned from my time there. 1. Pick the right car Choosing the 'right' car can really make or break a roadtrip. In many ways, it's a balancing act - you could go for something affordable, compact and fuel efficient, but compromise on boot space, engine power and driving fun. Alternatively, you could opt for something more premium and high-performance, but that obviously comes at a greater financial cost, petrol and otherwise. I'd really recommend something that's comfortable and easy to drive (you'll be doing many hours of driving) and has good amounts of space. Having heated seats is also a big bonus during the winter time. The Skoda Superb that I elected on manages to strike a great balance. It's easy to drive, comfortable over long distances and has an enormous boot. At the same time, the 2.0-litre engine provides plenty of punch for the occasional frisky driving, while still being reasonably fuel efficient. 2. Pack warm, very warm It gets cold in Scotland in November. In places like Fort William and Inverness, temperatures can easily drop to sub-zero. So, you want to make sure that you wrap up and keep warm. Bring gloves, a beanie, and a comfortable and thick down jacket. The weather can be quite erratic too. A bright sunny day can be punctuated by the occasional 20-minute torrential rain, or you might get a persistent bout of light drizzle. Be sure to pack an umbrella and a waterproof outer layer, too. 3. Make sure you have data Especially if you're heading out into the countryside (where Scotland is most beautiful), you want to be sure that you have mobile data. Beyond just navigation, it also lets you search for nearby attractions, places to eat, and perhaps the nearest petrol station as well. This is especially important if you don't have a clearly planned out itinerary (like us). You don't want to be reliant on finding a wi-fi hotspot - there'll be long stretches of road/driving where wi-fi is simply not an option. Having data also ensures that you have ready access to Spotify, important during some of the longer stretches of driving as you move from one location to another. 4. Indulge in local delights Yes, most people probably know about haggis, a Scottish dish of sheep puck that's famously divisive (I personally really enjoy it). But, there's plenty of other local fare to be enjoyed, most notably the seafood. Additionally, be sure to also chat with the locals. The Scottish people are an extremely friendly, charming and humorous bunch. It might take a moment or two to acquaint to the heavy Scottish accent, but once you do you'll realise that the locals are a deeply sardonic and yet warm and welcoming bunch of people. 5. Start each day early In the wintertime, the sun sets around 4:30pm every day. And, when it gets dark, it gets really dark. To maximise your daylight hours, you should start each day early (the sky is bright by about 7:30am each morning). Take full advantage of the available daylight hours by going on morning hikes up to some picturesque locations, visit as many whisky distilleries as you can cram into one afternoon, or just soak in the crisp air and blissful serenity. 6. Drive safe The roads are largely quiet this time of the year, and Scottish drivers are generally very courteous, but you still want to be careful. You'll encounter many narrow single track roads, and potholes are fairly abundant. It would also be wise to stock up on snacks and water whenever you can. Snacks are useful for keeping yourself alert and awake, especially on long journey or when driving at night. Also, if you do decide to drive at night (or basically anytime after 5:00pm in November), you want to be extra careful. Between towns, the roads are long, narrow, windy and 100% unlit. 7. Pray for good weather There's not much you can do in terms of 'plannin'’ the weather, but pray nonetheless (do a rain dance if you have to). Having good weather (ie. no rain) can make all the difference between a cheerful and a dreary, depressing day. It also means that the hundreds of photos you take will turn out much more vibrant and beautiful.
  4. Skoda adds yet more incentive to opt for its excellent Superb with its 1.8 TSI variant, so naturally we take one up North into the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia to test it out. Despite being a more affordable alternative, the Superb Ambition didn't disappoint at all. From the inside at least, the 8.0-inch infotainment system was still intuitive to use, with two physical knobs to control the volume and scroll through menus, while the car remained very compliant and comfortable on the road throughout the 1,400km drive. For sure, features such as ventilated seats, ambient lighting, and a sunroof have been omitted in this variant, but at a good $29,000 discount off the 2.0-litre Laurin & Klement variant (as of 10 September 2019), we think these are features you can live without. The 1.8-litre turbocharged lump is good for 177bhp and 250Nm of torque, meaning there is no stark difference in performance against the 2.0-litre powerplant as well. And that, in our eyes, is good enough reason to consider shopping for the more affordable option. Read our full review here! The following pictures show the car in other specifications. Or perhaps you might be more keen on the facelifted 2020 model?

  10. Hi all, After 7 years and 250,000km later of driving my beloved and wonderful Skoda Superb I. I am sad to say that I will be retiring my silver bullet soon. I remember that I bought the car purely to usher in the birth of my daughter. We have many shared, loving memory with our "Skody"(everyone in the family calls her that.) I will be dekitting - 1. Tyres - less than 1000 km tyres - FALKEN 18" with RIMS or without. 2. RIMS - BSS RIMs make me an offer - but need to be replaced with wheels... 3. Tools - Reserved for Koolaba. 4. Spare tyres - must be replaced with another spare tyre. I will be moving to a SUV - Kia Sorento Diesel 2.2L CRDi 196hp/436NM torque (if Skoda had a bigger SUV, I would have migrated to it) but alas cant wait. - thanks to Koolaba for the poison, he got me into a Skoda too and never regretted. So ping me if there is anything you might want from the car.
  11. 2015 Skoda Suberb driven: almost as comfortable as a Rolls-Royce Previous Skoda Superbs haven't lived up to the immodest name, but the latest version is much more impressive The latest Superb has looks inspired by the sleek Vision C concept that Skoda showed at the 2014 Geneva motor show Credit: Uli Sonntag/Uli_Sonntag 30 April 2015 • 9:15pm Andrew EnglishMotoring Correspondent, Telegraph Cars Get in touch Of course it’s a ridiculous name. I’m thinking of changing mine to Andrew the Magnificent. And giving a car the name Superb was probably a monstrous act of self aggrandisement even back in the 1930s when Skoda first used it, despite the Czech firm having a considerable reputation as a maker of fine motors back then. More recently we have seen the fall of Skoda during the communist era, followed by its inexorable rise under Volkswagen ownership. Only bad comics joke about Skodas these days - they are no longer cheap and cheerful flivvers. But the company needs to be more than just a budget VW to survive, and so far it’s done well in gaming VW’s parts to build interesting vehicles such as the Yeti and Roomster, even if there’s been a suspicion of late that the ride and handling department have fallen asleep on the job. The outgoing Superb, launched in 2008, was interesting, too, but not in a good way. It wasn’t really aimed at Europe, where big, non-premium cars struggle against the German hegemony (Ford Granada, Vauxhall Carlton RIP). No, this was a car for Eastern Europe, Russia and China, which is its biggest market. It stood out only by having a boot that could be opened like a saloon car’s or a hatchback’s; Skoda narrowly beat BMW to market with this feature, but both car makers have since dropped the idea. František Drábek, project leader on the new Superb, admits it was too heavy and expensive and no one really understood it. “I caught a Superb taxi in Shanghai recently,” he said. “Even that driver didn’t know what the saloon/hatch boot was for.” It also made the car look really ugly, which is perhaps why 61 per cent of the modest UK Superb sales (5,900 last year) were of the handsome estate version which, like the old Rover 75 Tourer, looked like a lot of car for the money. The 2015 Skoda Superb uses a stretched version of the platform that underpins the VW Passat Credit: Uli_Sonntag But a year after the launch of the last Superb, VW introduced its common platform/parts/design/production system known as MQB, which underpins everything from from the Polo to the Touareg. Drábek sheds an interesting light on the conception of this system where Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and Seat sat down to hammer out what they each wanted out of it. “We needed value for money,” he said. “We can’t ask Audi prices so we are always trying to keep the costs of the system down.” And that’s exactly what Skoda got, along with goodies such as a new entertainment system, radar- and camera-based safety technology and DAB radio, to go with the better proportioned and lighter chassis incorporating sophisticated multilink independent rear suspension. Underneath, the new Superb is effectively a stretched VW Passat. While on top it borrows heavily from the rather lovely Vision C concept, which Skoda unveiled at last year’s Geneva motor show. What driveway wouldn’t look a little better for one of these parked on it? It might be a hatchback rather than a saloon, but frankly the new Superb makes the efforts of most premium German rivals look rather blousy and ham fisted. Inside, meanwhile, it’s bigger than my living room. I sat behind a six-foot two-inch driver with six inches of knee room to spare and enough headroom to accommodate a top hat. It’s also as wide as three adults can be and the boot is so big you could have a game of cricket on the retractable cover. The hatch opens automatically and has one of those kick-sensing opening systems, which is more problematic in use than it should be. Simply Clever is Skoda’s slogan for the plethora of knick knacks that accompany its cars: umbrellas in the doors, ice scrapers in the fuel-filler and so on. The latest such feature is a gripping device in the cupholder that’s there so you can undo a screw-top bottle one handed, although it doesn’t work that well. Drábek admits it’s getting more difficult to come up with these gimmicks and said that in future “Simply Clever is likely to be in the multi-media systems.” Every new Superb is available with the whole gamut of Volkswagen safety systems, while further up the five-model range you find adaptive cruise control and dual-zone climate control. The top model is the fully loaded Laurin & Klement, which comes with system to help you deal with parking, blind spots and staying in lane on the motorway, as well as a heated windscreen and a Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system which lets you alter the steering, throttle sensitivity and suspension between Comfort, Normal and Sport settings. Prices start at £18,640, but the Superb Estate will carry a £1,200 premium when it arrives in September, and the 2.0-litre diesel SE L Executive hatch that's expected to be the best seller costs £25,065. MQB cars tend to exhibit similar driving characteristics, most good, and the Superb is no exception. Noise is well damped, even if the Superb isn’t as uncannily quiet as the latest Passat, while the steering is direct, with well judged weighting in most versions; only the 4x4 model disappoints in this regard. The VW Group’s 148bhp 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine is a really smooth unit, not at all out of breath driving this big car. Similarly, the 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel feels gutsy and is generally refined, although it gets a bit gruff at large throttle openings at low revs, and you feel some fizz through the throttle pedal. As for the 187bhp version of this engine, it certainly has some go, but the combustion vibration is stronger and so is the noise. What really strikes you about the Superb, though (apart from its enormous interior), is the quality of the ride. It’s not quite Rolls-Royce smooth, but is damn close with only a slight nibbly quality over ripples betraying its mass-market nature. I can’t think of a single rival that could ride so comfortably over the truck-damaged autostrada found on the launch route. True, there’s a tad too much wallow through a series of corners when you put the DCC-equipped car in Comfort, but Normal sorts it out, and there’s virtually no penalty to pay for the Superb’s cosseting nature in terms of pitch and squat. This probably isn’t a car you’d throw through the bends, but if you do, it’s secure, with well-judged damping control and just a bit of lift off tightening of the line for those who like such traits. Fun? Not really, but dignified and damn comfy. The new Superb isn’t going to steal many sales from BMW or Mercedes, but that’s only because of the badge on the nose. It’s a good looking alternative and the residuals are looking good, making it a lot less risky than most non-premium big cars. THE FACTS Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI 150 SE L Executive Tested: 1,968cc diesel engine, six-speed manual gearbox (optional six-speed twin-clutch automatic), front-wheel drive Price/on sale: £18,640-£34,505/June (first deliveries September) Power/torque: 148bhp @ 3,500rpm/250lb ft @ 1,750rpm Top speed: 135mph Acceleration: 0-62mph in 8.9sec Fuel economy: 58.9mpg/68.9mpg (EU Urban/Combined) CO2 emissions: 108g/km VED band: B (£0 for first year, £20 thereafter) Verdict: A great looking family car with loads of space and a terrific ride. Estate version is likely to be more popular, but the hatch isn’t the pariah it was. A great alternative to premium German rivals Telegraph rating: Four out of five stars A handsome looking car that probably feels solid and more competitively priced than it's VW brethren. Pity that Skoda is no longer on sale in Singapore. Probably give Camry and Accord a good run for their money.
  12. Hi, question to you Gurus in here. Looking to create a detailed maintenance schedule for my superb. I am not looking at when to send to car for servicing but what needs to be looked at each service. I don't completely trust the "outside" workshops. I have heard diffrent things from different workshop when I enquired about my coming 60K service. Not so much that they add "extra" services that are not required but more afraid that they leave something out that will detrimental to car. Thanks Lamy
  13. saw a few 2010/2011 superb on sgcarmart, any thing to look out for? heard about the gearbox problem anything else? thanks in advance
  14. I dunno if this is a good place to start this thread.. The Marketplace is not really meant for skoda posting... So here better?? Call me at 94522168.
  15. Greetings. My Skoda Superb 1.8Turbo petrol engine manufactured in 2007 has the following problems: The hose in the picture was broken but do not know what part it is to tell the stockist. In addition, the exhaust manifold was so red in the second picture, I wonder whether anything wrong with that. I would appreciate it very much if you could send me a diagram showing the parts and parts number of the engine bay if you have access to it, so that I can inform my stockist of the part to order, and also shed some light to my exhaust manifold problem. Many thanks, KK
  16. I have dekitted my turbo K04 from my Superb 1, anyone interested please give me an offer. My email [email protected].
  17. Was at the VW showroom yesterday and walked around but nothing really excited me. The new Jetta was ok, inside wise with all the dashboard systems and all, its the same as our Skodas. Than I popped into the Skoda showroom in Leng Kee and found out some exciting news, the 2.0TSI Superb model is coming in and ready for taking orders before the COE increases again, which seems most likely since alot of people are changing or upgrading their cars. The new Skoda Superb 2.0TSI is fully featured with keyless entry and push button start, price wise, the 2.0TSI is actually cheaper than the VW Passat 1.8TSI by a good 20k. To order it, they said it will take about 3 months to get in. I was so tempted, the 1.8TSI was going for 146,000. Full featured model at a special price this weekend only. And is available now. GO check it out today! What should I get the 2.0TSI or 1.8TSI......hmm...
  18. This looks interesting Anybody up for it? Imported used vehicle 1.6L Diesel http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...506&DL=2597 Just sharing I am in no way related to the company selling the car

  22. Hi to all, glad to announce that I am a newbie Superb owner! Just gotten my ride yesterday, thanks to all the countless answers and advise from my "broken record" questions, to people like Koolaba and the rest in this forum that gives Skoda cars great credit and by word of mouth made the Skoda brand stand out just a little more. 18 months ago I would not have known that I would have bought a Superb today. I am glad a made the RIGHT choice. Cheers to all, now to learn all the maintance and ICE queries.
  23. It was about 5 years ago when I bought my Skoda Superb 1.8T. I found the brand though this very website and from the Skoda community here. I am more than happy with my ride and experience. Being such a used car, I will definitely accelerate the wear and tear duration and had parts changed. Currently my ride is sitting at the workshop to have it's cam changed as there was some issues with it. I am expecting a deeper ride after this. Its almost like a mini-overhaul. After this, ride will be powerful for the next 5 years. - Its true when people say that the car is a keeper and Skoda drivers seldom change their ride.
  24. anyone have?
