  1. Been quite confused how does the yellow box work. Read this somewhere: "Under the Road Traffic Rules, although part of the vehicle was in the yellow box, it was not causing obstruction to any other vehicle proceeding to or along that road junction and, as such, no offence was committed" and "if there is nothing to impede the flow of traffic one does not have to stop." Does this actually means that it is safe to stop in a yellow box, if there are no cars that I'll be blocking?
  2. Something I always wanted to clarify. My understanding of the _practical_ purpose of putting BBK is this. 1.) Unless your stock brakes are worn out or piss poor, BBKs do NOT improve stopping distance. If your stock brakes can cause the ABS to activate when you stomp hard, having stronger/better brakes would not change anything. Since your stock brakes already exceed the limits of the tyres. In fact, if the BBK brake bias is not set up properly, you could end up with worse stopping distance. 2.) What BBKs can do, is to improve pedal feel and for those who track or drive hard, improve heat soak and dissipation. e.g. 1st time stop, BBK and Stock is the same, 2nd time, also same, but after a few repeat hard brakes, the stock might overheat and become spongy and it is here that the BBK would outperform the stock brakes. So is it correct to say that, unless you are tracking your car or driving and braking hard for extended period, BBKs do not improve your stopping distance?
  3. Now is the best time to buy the car accessories you wanted to spruce up your car. They may be a little bit pricey, but OCBC is here to fulfil all your aspirations. With the OCBC Cashflo Card, you can pre-set a trigger amount, above which all purchases will be automatically converted into up to six months interest-free instalments. The best part? This feature on the OCBC Cashflo Card applies to all merchants that accept credit cards. This means that any and every purchase of yours, anywhere in the world, can be split into instalments. Now you will never have to miss out on a good deal! How? 1. Pre-set your preferred amount to activate automatic instalments. E.g: S$800 2. Purchase accessories at S$2,400 3. Just pay $400 for the next 6 months Other benefits:
  4. Noticed a couple of times at my GF place, people stop in the opposite direction (probably because of convenience) but leave their headlight on. The moment I turn in from the main road straight away kena blinded. Anyone encounter the same issue too?
  5. We often see passengers flaging down taxis from corner of the road junction where traffic is heavy and cars are getting in / out from one road into the other.... the taxi will just cut lanes and stop right at the junction disregarding other cars !!! Taxi drivers will blame the passengers who insist the taxi stop as and where to pick / let down the passengers. The passengers will say: he drives the taxi, if he decides to stop, i cant control him. Why not fine both passengers and taxi drivers who cause taxi to stop at road junction / double yellow line / no-stop zone etc etc.... taxi whichs cut lanes suddenly should be fine: if they are cruising and looking for passengers at the same time, take left most lane. Or: issue free 'passnger-license' to all who take taxi, but deduct demerit points if they are caught flouting the above rules, once all demerit pts are exhausted, he will not be allow to take taxi and if he does, impose heavy fines, 30% of the fine goes to the taxi driver who reports such 'illegal' passengers. Taxi drivers who bring / report such illegal passegner to the station will be given free drink and nasi lemak lunch etc in addition to 40% of the fine.
  6. Background: about 715am along AYE to CTE, near Lower Delta exit. Traffic Condition: moderate, average speed abt 70-80km/h Involved Car: Red Evoque with white roof (SFE egg egg 9 E) I was travelling in Lane 2, when suddenly I realised a shadow of a vechicle thru my rear mirror cut fr Lane 3 to Lane 2 (behind me) at abt 45 degree, then continue to cut into Lane 1. If I brake, it would have bang my rear. Then I saw it was a Evoque, and noticed the plate. OK, I was thinking just another yaya lux car thinking they own the road ... shortly after, when it was like 1/3 car length ahead of me, it suddenly attempted to steer left(45 degree again) in front of me. I gave a honk, then it stopped car completely on Lane 1 (I saw it thru my rear mirror & right side mirror). Till I drove to ECP and lost sight of it, it was still stationary on Lane 1. I do not know if any car(s) behind it got bang, but really cannot understand what the driver was doing. To the driver of this latest hot SUV - yes u are fortunate to own it, but your way of driving really do not deserve to drive ever again. Too bad we cannot do a thing about your behaviour, so please drive responsibly.
  7. I saw a few times in the morning when buses are too crowded..the driver would stop far from bus stops, like on the main road instead of the bus bay...like this morning it did and a car behind it had to stop abruptly. The bus bay was empty. I think the bus driver deliberately stop far away to avoid ppl from rushing in the back door instead of the front. Isn't this dangerous? Anyone else saw this b4? Is this part of their standard operating procedure?
  8. Good Friday bros! A simple question which I'm not sure whether it has been addressed be4.. When approaching red light whilst your car is still moving, is it alright to engage the neutral gear until the car stops? Heard from one of my pal that it may dmg the gearbox? I am doing this rather regularly and is not sure whether there will be nay implications? We are assuming automatic transmission of cuz..
  9. Hi fellow motorists, We all know stopping along a road with dbl zigzag lines carries a fine of 140 (?) and demerit pts of 4. And thats what i kena. Long ago, i was along shenton way. Lost my way, and didnt want to kena ERP coz of entering wrong road, then back and kena another ERP, i had to stop to check the street directory. I stopped behind a taxi stand taht is good for 2 taxis. I remembered that day, the taxi stand was full with a few taxi (more than 2 for sure). I am effectively a taxi in a queue if my car is painted with COmfort logo, and im on the dbl zigzag line. I was happily reading the map, and when i looked up, a scooter carrying the traffic marshal rode away after writing something on his notepad. I know im dead. bEing a good citizen, i paid the fine, took the points, and moved on. Recently, when i was back in the area again, i saw that the taxi queue along either Shenton way or Robinson road are always very long. Far more taxis are waiting in the 'just for 2 taxis' stand, and encroaching into the roads where the double zigzag lines are painted. And when a traffic marshall road past, nothing was done. In case like this, doesnt it carry double standard? How come a taxi, being on the ZZ line, is able to escape the penalty just because it is queuing? Then what is the 'For 2 Taxis only' sign for? If i was in line with the last waiting taxi, doesnt that render me immunity as well? Or does TAxi is a special group that is free from the ZZ lines rule? Puzzled, i wrote to LTA. to be continued.
  10. In the driving test? I see many others still stop way after the stop line and protruding in the ped crossing already.
  11. Drove past a TP today. From rear view mirror, saw him immediately whip out his notebook and started scribbling and staring at the back of my car. I don't know what could have been the offense or whether he recorded my car or the other cars beside me. But the question is: Can the TP just issue a summon to me when he did not stop me?
  12. Hi, I notice my steering oil is leaking but can't seem to find the cause. need to top up every 2 week from Max to Min, i just got a STP steering oil with leakage stopping, i wonder if any of you encounter this problem and solve it with such product. Is it ok if i just leave the situation as it is, will it further damage anything?
  13. i was travelling along a wet (no puddles) road just now along PIE exit lane to upper serangoon road at around 60km/h behind an off service sbs bus... view on front was blocked so didnt follow closely ... then the bus jam brake and its wheels locked up... upon seeing the 4 huge 22.5inch tyres lock up from the back i oso scared.. jam/slam brake and ABS "unlocked" my wheels 3 times.... while hoping that the bus neber crash into anything in front and stop abruptly which may cause me to kiss backside ... stopped at >1.5m away from the bus... further up front at the bus stop got one swift and 2 bikes parked by the side.. most likely accident... neber see properly Question to fellow mcf bros (esp those who track): Which is the most effective way of stopping a car (shortest braking distance) in a situation like above.. not too sudden but need to react fast kind ? (a) slam on brakes and let ABS do the job or (b) step on the brake fast but not slam... like step till full in 1 sec instead of "immediate" ... dunno if u guys understand... © others (pls specify) cos when my ABS activate the braking power doesnt feel stronger than normally when i brake hard n fast.... and i rem reading somewhere that pro drivers actually have shorter stopping distance w/o ABS... thanks in advance for yr comments~!
  14. is the above statement correct? Assuming the brake and the rims are the same sizes.
  15. Yesterday, I was carrying a load of 4 people in my car, one quite big size colleague and 2 ladies, one petite and the other quite medium built. I was travelling at a normal speed of 60 Km/h and one car length from a lorry in front of me. Suddenly at the turn of the junction, the lorry jam brake...I also jam brake....To my horror, I discovered that my car did not react as swiftly as I expect and it moved so closely to the lorry in front (which was already stationary) before it eventually stopped. I thought kena liao. I alighted my ride and checked. It was only a few fingers, about 3 fingers to my estimation, between my front bumper and the lorry's rear body. After that, on my way home, I tried to test my brakes....This time round, the car managed to brake effectively.... I dunno what is wrong....Car too heavy will affect the braking distance? I am using original brake pads and just changed my brake pads not too long ago.... Very confused and perplexed...
  16. I hate vehicles waiting at the side of roads with engines turned on! Why don't they just turn off their engines? Especially at night, when it's cool... Does starting and stopping your engine more frequently increase wear & tear? What are the ways to counter this problem? (change engine oil more frequently?)
  17. heard the present primera 2.0 going out of production soon in nov classic liao think it was this computer designed car rite
  18. Hi all, Yesterday I was driving along the main road (not 100% sure if it's called EuTongSen or outram rd), but I was coming from city hall direction, stopping at a junction opposite people's park shopping centre (infront of Chinatown point), waiting to turn right and go toward CTE from there. While approaching the traffic junction, slowing down....a Unidentified Flying Object flew from my right and dropped right onto my bonnet, causing a big dent. Initially, I thought it was a big fruit that was dropped from the trees....but my wife was with me and she shouted "Wah! how come got such a big stone!?!?" And there was no big trucks/tippers in sight! Then we proceeded to turn right and stop right below the overhead bridge connecting OG and people's park and examined the damage. Big dent + scratch. I went back to the scene of crime, trying to find out what happened but I couldn't find any clue except that....I found that on both sides of the roads (towards Outram or towards Cityhall), there were a few pieces of concrete-like stones on the road. Therefore I have thought of a few possibilities. 1) Someone was playing with those F***ing stones. Threw them onto cars from afar and run 2) Some trucks/tippers was carrying such rocks and it felled onto the road. Other cars/buses/trucks drove over it at high speed and kicked up the rocks and then it flew towards my car (but not quite likely coz the rocks are too big to be 'kick-up' by cars driving over it.....furthermore, the rock came from the other side of the road, instead of coming from behind a car which I was following...if any) 3) Some UFO flying around in Singapore sky and dropped their egg which fossilised into stone while in the air and dropped onto my bonnet. (As if this will happen) Sigh. The purpose of writing this post....is to seek some advise from fellow brothers here on the recourse I should seek. 1) Complain to LTA? (I don't think they'll chup me) 2) Complain to xxx construction contractors? (There isn't any construction site near there when I went to scout around) 3) Go temple to "beat small people"? Never tried before, but don't mind going if it's found to be someone's mischief 4) Claim from Insurance? (I think got excess coz can't find the culprit ) If I need to respray this bonnet at my own expenses, then very likely, I'll be tempted to go malaysia....but this particular car....never went to malaysia....unlike my Mazda 323..... Anyway, I appreciate all advise. Thanks in advance.
