Dutch car manufacturer - Spyker - will return to Salon Prive with two models featured on both the Concept Lawn and as part of the Audemars Piguet British Super Car Show at Syon House in September. Spyker has recently revealed the production-confirmed B6 Venator, which will feature on the Concept Lawn, with a Spyder (convertible) version also expected to be revealed later in the year. The Spyker B6 Venator Concept is a compact, two-door mid-engine sports car that Spyker claims will offer the discerning driver of the highest standards a new choice, delivering a rare combination of heritage, design, performance and exclusivity. Designed by Victor R. Muller, Chief Executive Officer of Spyker N.V., the Spyker B6 Venator Concept makes a contemporary statement whilst paying homage to its past. Highly detailed design, bespoke materials and aviation-inspired elements are a core part of the Spyker DNA. With the announcement of the Spyker B6 Venator Concept, the company once again proves its Latin axiom: Nulla tenaci invia est via (For the tenacious no road is impassable). The name 'Venator' is Latin as well, meaning 'Hunter' - a nod back to Spyker's Hunter fighter aircraft of the early 20th century. The Spyker B6 Venator Concept will begin production in early 2014 for key markets including Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific and India, followed by the U.S.A in autumn 2014. The C8 Aileron, last seen at this year's Geneva Motor Show, will be displayed as part of the Audemars Piguet British Super Car Show, proudly demonstrating why this year's production of the model has already sold out. Salon Prive's David Bagley said, "I'm delighted to have Spyker at Salon Prive once again and showing a stunning lineup on both the Concept Lawn and as part of the Audemars Piguet British Super Car Show. We have a brilliant show coming together this year, the biggest and best ever in fact, and we're very much looking forward to seeing it all come together over the three days in September." The eight Salon Prive will run from Wednesday the 4th of September to Friday the 6th of September at Syon Park, London. Several new product debuts, as well as the Chubb Insurance Concours d'El

Spyker and Youngman form alliance; new models planned
FaezClutchless posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Dutch sports car manufacturer, Spyker, has recently announced that they have formed a new alliance with Chinese automaker, Youngman. Spyker CEO Victor Muller hopes that this partnership would raise the Saab name from the ashes. In the agreement, Youngman is reportedly investing around US$12 million in Spyker where most of it will be used to purchase shares in the Dutch company (29.9 percent) and the rest as a loan. Youngman has mentioned that they will not acquire more than the 29.9 percent stake. On top of the above mentioned, Youngman will invest around US$31 million for the development of an all new vehicle known as the D8 P2P, named after the Peking to Paris rally. Spyker unveiled the P2P vehicle previously in 2006 but development for it has been very quiet since then. Spyker has also mentioned that they will now build the vehicle and it will be launched at the end of 2014 with a price tag of around US$250,000. Another part of this new alliance, which will interest Saab fans, is the announcement of the Spyker Phoenix project. Youngman will provide Spyker with the rights to the Phoenix platform which they bought last year. Youngman will also provide the finances needed for the production of any Phoenix-based vehicle and they will hold 80 percent of the project while Spyker holds the remaining 20 percent. The Spyker Phoenix joint venture will feature a new range of vehicles based on the Phoenix platform. In addition to a new 9-3 sedan, planned models include a flagship 9-7 sedan and a 9-6X crossover. Production of these vehicles will take place in both China and Europe.-

The Saab name might be no more and it seems like the saga that has embroiled the Swedish automaker is going to come to an end. But that might not be the case because BMW has sued Saab Automobile Parts AB for unpaid deliveries. BMW has filed a US$3.2 million lawsuit at a Swedish district court against Saab Automobile Parts AB, the parts division of the now bankrupt automaker, for receiving parts and other engine components. The original agreement between the two companies was signed in September 2010. In the agreement, it states that Saab Automobile AB will acquire engine parts and other components from BMW and also in the same agreement, Saab will work with BMW to develop and continue using a four cylinder engine for the Saab 9-3 sedan provided by BMW. This lawsuit might encounter some problems. Firstly, Saab is bankrupt and has a debt of around US$2 billion and with only US$500 million worth of assets. Another interesting thing is that Saab Automobile Parts CEO, Lennart Stahl, has stated that Saab Automobile Parts never ordered or received parts from BMW and he felt that the company should not require paying the US$3.2 million amount. BMW has spent the last one and a half years chasing Saab for the unpaid bill and Saab clearly does not have the funds to repay the German automaker. When Saab filed for bankruptcy, the company made its parts division as collateral to get state-backed guarantees for its loans in the European Investment Bank. Some of us would remember that recently, Spyker launched a US$3 billion lawsuit against General Motors. Spyker claims that General Motors forced the Swedish brand to go under. And another interesting report is that the company which reportedly has bought Saab, National Electric Vehicle Sweden, has not close the deal yet and it might take several more months for it to happen. No reason was given on why the deal has not been completed. It is clear that we are going to hear more interesting reports about the Swedish automaker in the near future. Photo credit: Net Car Show

Saab is in deep trouble according to its owners Spyker. The Swedish car manufacturer could seriously bite the dust even after the takeover by Spyker early last year. In fact, Spyker had to let go of a major shareholding of its luxury car manufacturing arm to a UK based investment company to inject some extra capital into Saab but even this little maneuver has not stopped the bleeding. Spyker's annual report had stated that Saab's future isn't certain if they do not secure new funding. I think Saab has caused the owners of Spyker to lose out big time. It had to sell off major shares in Spyker cars and now it reveals that Saab is bleeding badly. This statement is surprising as I remember writing about the Spyker-Saab deal in February 2010 where Spyker bought the beleaguered company from General Motors for a sum totaling US$74 million in cash and another US$326 million in deferred shares. Spyker took a 400 million Euro loan for Saab and another hundred million Euro loan elsewhere as backup. 400 million Euros is just part of the operating costs of Saab. Of course at that point of time Spyker wanted Saab to sell 120,000 cars per year and the bad news is Saab only managed around 80,000 or so units. It sold more cars in 2009 and obviously, selling less cars meant that Saab is in a real bad state. There was even an issue at the Saab Trollhattan plant which had to be temporarily shut down for about a day or so due to suppliers stopping the supply of parts. All of this isn't confidence building if you know what I mean. According to the annual report, Saab is losing tons of money due to trying to set up new distribution networks and sales/marketing operations. While this spending of money was necessary and budgeted for in the Saab turnaround cum business plan, Spyker did not anticipate that the actual cash needed was higher than planned. There was also talk that a Russian billionaire is interested in Saab and is willing to invest 500million Euros into Saab. But this is mere speculation and nothing is solid as yet. And why someone is willing to add more money to a sinking ship is beyond me. As if Spyker's foray into Saab isn't a lesson to others already. All this has basically shown that what I said in my earlier article written way, way, way back in December 2009 where I asked a simple question on Saab and its extinction at that point of time and whether it really matter to any of us? I basically asked and said -

The next generation of Saab models may very well be powered by BMW engines if negotiations between the two automakers are successful. Following widespread media speculations on the matter, Spyker N.V., the parent company of the Swedish carmaker confirmed talks with BMW. Here's the official statement: "Spyker Cars N.V. ("the Group"), a holding company that owns subsidiaries which produce and sell premium automobiles under the Saab and Spyker brands, has noted recent press speculation about the possible supply relationship with BMW. The Group confirms that talks are ongoing and will give further details once a final agreement has been reached." A report from Bloomberg citing an unnamed person with direct knowledge of the matter said the first Saab to benefit from the proposed deal would be the next 9-3 model, due for release in 2012. According to the source, Saab will make use of a new 222-horsepower engine that BMW is developing, which has yet to be introduced in any of the Bavarian automaker's cars. The same engine would find its way under the hood of the new 9-5. The person said the two automakers are also in talks about Saab buying diesel engines from BMW, as well as the possible use of the MINI Countryman's platform for the future 9-2 premium sub-compact. A final announcement on the deal could be made in a week

Spyker has its sights set firmly on the blooming Chinese auto market. According to a report from the China Car Times, the company plans to produce and market a road-legal version of its GT2 racer just for the People's Republic. Supposedly, the car will be both longer and wider, and will feature a host of creature comforts to help bridge the gap between the racetrack and public streets. The car is set to be launched in October of this year and this means that development of the vehicle must be almost complete. China Car Times also mentioned that Spyker is planning to build a larger four-door model just for Chinese customers as well. Both vehicles will feature design elements that have been specifically crafted just for the new market. Eventually, Spyker hopes China will become the company's second largest market after the United States. With all of the money floating around the Asian country's economy at the moment, this goal may not be too much of a stretch.

Spyker has bought Saab. A happy ending? Not too sure about that though
Rigval posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
It seems Saab has been saved. The white knight in this highly publicized story is Spyker, a Dutch car manufacturer which sells really exotic cars that seems to be bought and driven by no one in particular. Spyker bought the beleaguered company from General Motors for a sum totaling US$74 million in cash and another US$326 million in deferred shares. The really fantastic thing is that Spyker's CEO had to buy out the company's largest shareholder, a Russian bank tycoon, to go through with the deal. This could show a lack confidence by the bank tycoon in going through with the deal as a shareholder and that he had decided to cash out before things start getting worse. I mean, if you read the Reuters report on the deal, you will know that Spyker has not been profitable since 2000. Sometimes, ambition gets the better of a company and Spyker may have dug its own grave by purchasing Saab. As I stated earlier, no one actually buys the car even if it is quite good. You can find quality in other marques that have better quality, driving pleasure and even resale value. Trying out a Saab and then liking a Saab is one thing. But after that drive the person then plonks out a wad of dollars and buys a Saab is seldom, or almost never done. The guy who buys Saab must be a person who ignores all basic car buying rules and just loves being different, extremely different. In this case being different means that he has to ignore the build quality of an Audi, the institution that is Mercedes Benz, the driving pleasure of a BMW and the soul of an Alfa Romeo. He must be actually insane. Even the bad news of the company winding down has effected people who wanted to try out this brand. In comparison, if there were rumours that a terrorist group intended to blow up AAA Airline's aircraft the first thing that may drop is the price of AAA Airline's shares in the stock market. This is exactly the same thing. It may take a few years for people (who don't read or watch the news) to realize that Saab is still around. And don't be surprised that some actually don't. Anyway, Spyker has also stated that is has the financing to carry out all operations including enough cash to finance new model development. Saab has lost a total of 400 million Euros in 2009 and 300 million Euros the previous year. Spyker as stated has not been profitable and even with financing, things are not as rosy as you think. Spyker took a 400 million Euro loan for Saab and another million Euro loan elsewhere as backup. 400 million Euros is just part of the operating costs of Saab. If the company can lose 300- 400 million Euros in a year, that would mean that the company operates close to double that amount per year. We can say that Saab managed to recoup only half the amount spent, which is a terrible way to do business. We may be watching another Delorean (as stated in the article) or another Rover, which went bust due to a takeover by a consortium who basically bled the company to death. This arrangement may allow Saab to continue for a while, but I do not see this having a fairy tale ending in the long run. Imagine this as a conclusion to this article; Spyker,a company that has not been profitable since 2000 and it has decided to buy over another very unprofitable company with the hope that it can turn both around by having a symbiotic business plan. There is a slight lack of logic if it were put in that simplified way. -
A securities and shareholders watchdog group is crying foul over the Spyker purchase of Saab. Dutch association VEB is insisting that Spyker CEO Victor Muller clear up questions about the mysterious financing that surfaced at the last minute of his negotiations with General Motors. Saab-parent GM had insisted that Spyker chairman, and Russian banker, Vladimir Antonov divest his stake in the Dutch automaker as a condition to the Saab transfer. Antonov's stake of 4.6 million shares was bought by Tenaci Capital, owned by Muller. Tenaci contributed

Hand build in the best tradition of the old Spykers by the most dedicated craftsmen of our time using the very best materials available. Created with passion for the most passionate of drivers. For owners who are desirous for a car built specifically for them, a car combining classic beauty with state of the art technology. Production commenced in March 2002 and the first cars were delivered to customers at the end of that year. In the 2003 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Spyker won its greatest victory so far: finishing 10th in class and 30th overall with the totally in-house prepared Spyker C8 Double12 R chassis number 009. Victor Muller, Spyker CEO; 'It was a truly a dream come true when we finished on June 15th last at 4 p.m. We feel that we have succeeded in demonstrating that our basically standard road cars are capable of competing at the highest levels in the international race arena. By doing so we enhance our brand recognition worldwide and have caught the attention and won the hearts of many passionate car enthusiasts around the globe'. SPYKER C8 SPYDER T At the Amsterdam Motor Show in February 2003 Spyker announced that it would unveil a twin turbo variant of its C8 Spyder at the IAA. In cooperation with Cosworth Technology of North Hampton (www.cosworth-technology.co.uk), a wholly owned Audi subsidiary, the Audi V8 twin turbo engine is prepared for use in a Spyker C8 Spyder. In order to cope with the increased engine output (525 instead of 400 BHP) the Spyker C8 Spyder T has a wider track, extended wheel arches incorporated into the body and a small rear spoiler. Moreover, the car has additional front wing louvres, sill louvres and Konis newest four way F1 show absorbers. It is anticipated that the Spyder T will go into production into the second half of 2004 with the intention of building 25 prior to the 2005 race season and to homologate it for events both under ACO (Le Mans and American Le Mans series rules) as well as under FIA GT rules. The launch of the Spyker C8 Spyker TR is expected in the 3rd quarter of 2004 and will be campaigned alongside the continuing Double12 program. Story by Spyker Automobeilen BV
