Recently, many deep sea creatures appeared in California beaches. Ancient believes that when creatures / animals leaving their habitats, its indicating that an earthquakes are coming. Animals can sense the magnetic fields changes and leave their habitats to escape. Scientist in NatGeo had indicated that the 'Big' quake is due around every 75,000 years and they are expecting anytime soon on California Tectonic Plates From Yahoo News : Rare and frightening footballfish washes up in California – again At first, the black blob spotted between rocks along the shores of San Diego this week was mistaken for a ball of tar. But as a concerned surfer approached, it became clear that this was something special. The finned creature had a gaping underbite that revealed nightmarish spiny teeth, small black eyes, a tentacle-covered appendage and bulb protruding from its head. Scientists at University of California San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography swiftly identified it as a Pacific football fish, a deep-sea dweller so rare that only 31 specimens have been found in more than a century since it was first discovered. The recent find, however, marked an even more remarkable moment. The Pacific footballfish is the third to wash ashore in California this year, a highly unusual event given its extreme reclusiveness. At this point, no one knows how or why the fish appeared – but scientists are excited about the opportunity to learn more. “The fact that a few washed up this year might just be serendipity for us,” said Ben Frable, an ichthyologist and the Collection Manager of Fishes at Scripps Institution of Oceanography who is examining and preserving the fish. He dismissed the idea that this was an indication that something was amiss. If that was the case, he said, there would be many more. But the two that were recovered this year (a third was photographed on the beach but disappeared before scientists got to the scene) are already offering the chance of new insights about the species. As someone from low income background, I never pay attention to Mercedes cars throughout my growing up years. My first glimpse of a Mercedes car was when I went my classmate's house when I was primary 1 and saw this beautiful car with pointed star outside his house, and also saw washing machines and big television and a lot of loose change in his house. Strangely I did not feel bad about myself then, though I did feel bad about myself after a few years when I became aware of this social divide and recalled this incident haha.. Ok fast forward to now. Recent years I can't help but notice that Mercedes cars look alike internally especially the front part around the dashboard and the door knobs. It is about almost the same look, from the lowly A class to the mighty S class with the same design language. I know nowadays the design will propagate from S class to A class upwards then to all the other models progressively. I attach a few pictures to illustrate the point. There are slight differences with a few car models as they are undergoing slight facelift, and expected to be the same when they undergo full model change later. Has it always been like that? I have not seen other car makers adopting such a approach, so extensively. Frankly after seeing a few, I really have no appetite for another Mercedes if it looks the same despite external differences. Please share your comments if you have anything on this. Rest assured I am not talking bad about Mercedes cars. I admire this company a lot. Cheers

Le Mans-inspired Toyota GR Super Sport Concept teased http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/102096/le-mans-inspired-toyota-gr-super-sport-concept-teased Derived from Toyota’s sportscar racing programme, the GR Super Sport concept will be unveiled under the Gazoo Racing performance brand Toyota has announced a Le Mans-derived GR Super Sport Concept under its Gazoo Racing performance banner will be unveiled at next month’s Tokyo Auto Salon. The car has been previewed by a teaser image while a tweet from Toyota’s racing division confirmed that the concept would be a road car if it makes it to production. The hazy image shows a vehicle looking very similar to Le Mans prototypes run by Toyota’s World Endurance Championship team; flared wheel arches, a low-slung roof, big rear wing and shark fin above the rear engine cover are noticeable along with the race-derived wheels and brake calipers The GR Super Sport is also said to draw inspiration from the Yaris rally car that Toyota’s World Rally Championship division competes with. Should it go into production, it will likely be in very limited numbers. More details will be announced closer to the grand unveil at the Tokyo Auto Salon on 12-14 January. The Japanese manufacturer will also unveil a pair of performance cars under its Gazoo Racing (GR) subsidiary - the 86 GR and the Vitz (Yaris) GRMN, with the latter being launched exclusively in Japan to just 150 units.

from CNA news : Air disaster narrowly averted in China: report SHANGHAI : A Chinese pilot's refusal to give up his landing slot to a passenger plane that issued a distress call to say it was running out of fuel almost caused a disaster, state media reported Thursday. China's privately-owned Juneyao Airlines confirmed that one of its pilots refused to give way when a Qatar Airways plane contacted air traffic controllers at Hongqiao airport, asking permission to land immediately. The pilot of the Qatar plane said it had just five minutes' worth of fuel left after it was diverted from Shanghai, the Global Times newspaper reported, adding that a disastrous accident was only narrowly averted. The Qatar plane was travelling from Doha to Shanghai when it was ordered to divert due to a thunderstorm on August 13. Air traffic controllers in Hongqiao, about 45 kilometres (30 miles) from Shanghai, ordered the Juneyao pilot to circle the airport and allow the Qatar plane to land first, but the pilot refused. The Global Times said the Juneyao pilot claimed he had been waiting "a long time" and needed to land "right now", citing comments posted online. Shanghai-based Juneyao Airlines, which was founded in 2005, said the pilot and crew had been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation, but that the "rumours on the Internet are far from the truth". "It remains doubtful whether the fuel on the Qatar Airways plane was really fewer than five minutes," the paper quoted a spokeswoman as saying. "And why didn't it inform the tower controller earlier?" At one point, the two aircraft came perilously close for there to be a risk of collision, according to an aviation forum quoted in The Global Times. "A Mayday is rare and means the plane is in an extreme emergency and may even face the danger of a crash," the paper quoted an unnamed senior air traffic control official as saying. China's civil aviation authority said in a statement it was investigating the incident and those responsible would be "severely punished". The Qatar plane landed safely after the incident. The pilot is really one of a kind ......

Hi all, I did something bad and stupid today, luckily nothing went seriously wrong, but's I feel it's something worth sharing. On my usual way home, most of the journey is on express way. My usual habit is to avoid lane 1 as I feel it's very stressful and accident prone, except for one special stretch of about 2-3km of the journey which the heavy vehicles usually occupy from lane 2 and inner, so I will goes to lane 1 for this stretch, and filter off lane 1 immediately after that. My habit is to keep 2-3 car length as safety distance even when I am travelling on lane 1. As usual, I was on lane 1 of that stretch of the road today on my way home. A silver Audi A8 came and started to tailgate me, well, I must admit that I was unhappy with that. By keeping 2-3 car length, I don't think I am road hogging. My intention was to keep to lane 1 after that stretch of road then let him pass after that. Suddenly, the Audi tried to overtake me from the left, and my unhappiness translated to pressing on the throttle to block him from overtaking me. But I filter off lane 1 immediately after that stretch of road to let him pass. The silver Audi didn't pass me after I went off lane 1, instead, he followed me all the way for more than 30km to where I intended to go. The Audi driver, a middle age guy got off the car and started screaming at me, I roughly remember his first statement was "what you think you are, I am driving a 4.2 V8, and you tried to play stun with me .... blur blur .... ", and lot of screaming following ..... I kept my cool, ask him to cool down ... I told him he's taking things too seriously .... I said sorry to him and after few minutes, he started talking to himself to cool down. Finally, we shake hand and he went off, hopefully his anger is over by now. Overall, nothing serious had happened. Out of curiosity, I punched his car number into Goolge. He's seems not very Internet savis, and his photo, his full detail is on the Internet. His's a technical director of a medium size MNC. Being able to drive an Audi A8 4.2, I assume he's should be quite successful in life. In conclusion, I should not have let my anger of the Audi's tailgating to block him from overtaking, I should have played defensive, slow down, even though his overtaking was a very close shave to my safety. However, I think I did well was I did not went mad and scream back at the Audi driver, else we may likely ended up fighting and get ourselves into more serious problem. Overall, I feel that life here is really very stressful that we must constantly remind ourselves to keep cool and don't let our emotion lead us to something stupid and even something unrecoverable.

There arent many Evs in singapore as theres not really an after sales infrastrature in place to support owning one and the lack of battery tech means that range is limited before a charge is needed. Furthermore as most of us live in hdb aparements, current recharging stations are not really widespread yet because they are mostly bulky, cumbersome and are located out of the way. This negativity causes many to overlook it as an alternative to petrol powered vehicles. Could there be a retractable reel like charging wire ( just the charging adapter from the shown charging point above)that comes down from above and retracts back into the ceiling once the charging is finished, like a wall socket ? This could enable many lots to be used as an ev charging point, especially if ev cars take off, or it may even spur ev ownership. Imagine charging your car at home without the need to fuel up at a petrol station. Or as an alternative,an EV charging station, which like a petrol station with the idea above. With the compact nature of the charging lot, it can even possibly be a multi level charging station, serving quite a number of cars, possibly more than what a petrol powered variant could do without the relative dangers of fuel vapours etc. Something like this Station staff collects the car, drives inside and parks the car in one of the ev station lots, and returns the car once the charging is done. Payment while waiting.

I saw something today. I am not sure if it is interesting or boring, sad or normal, or even if I really saw it. As a CAM and a guest in this country, I will just give a factual account of what I saw, and note that I do not have any opinion at all. I have no thoughts at all on what I saw. I will be as bland as I possibly can. I also won't have an opinion on what I think things like this say about Singaporeans or the future of Singapore, after all, only a Singaporean is allowed an opinion. What I saw was a mother with two teenage children crossing the road. All had empty hands. Trotting along behind was a maid carrying two water bottles and three sling bags.

from Yahoo : GOCE satellite set to crash down to Earth in coming days, but experts aren't sure where it will land A European space satellite that has been mapping the Earth’s gravitational field is set to crash down to Earth in the coming days, and it could provide a “real treat” for space watchers. But could GOCE (pronounced “GO-chay”), which is set to make an “uncontrolled entry” into the atmosphere, present a risk to anyone on the ground? “For the most part, these uncontrolled re-entries are the norm,” Space.com’s Tariq Malik told Yahoo News in a phone interview. “It’s not so much that we’ve been lucky to not get hit by one as it is the planet is so big.” The European Space Agency does not know exactly when GOCE, short for Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer, will crash to Earth, and experts there don't know exactly where it will land. But the general consensus is that it will re-enter Earth’s atmosphere sometime between Friday and Monday. “It’s rather hard to predict where the spacecraft will re-enter and impact,” the ESA’s Rune Floberghagen told the New York Times. “Concretely our best engineering prediction is now for a re-entry on Sunday, with a possibility for it slipping into early Monday.” And if all goes well, people may be able to watch the satellite safely enter the atmosphere and explode into a fireball of smaller fragments. “The one thing I’m really wondering about is where the re-entry might be visible from,” Malik said. “It’s very instructive to watch this stuff burn up. From the ground, it’s like watching a giant fireball. If that happens, viewers on the ground could really get a treat.” Watch your head as it might fall onto you .... Wonder where is a nice spot to watch the re-entry, Mount Faber or Telok Blangah Height garden ...

Hmmmmmmm ........ wonder how it look like and taste .... It's always good to try new cuisines while out traveling the world, but we would advise against ordering "cow something" off any menu no matter how adventurous you're feeling. Stick with the smoked cow feet instead -- at least you know what body part you're getting!

Something is very wrong with the system........ They say its to control car population blah blah..... However, I still experience jams like nobody business everyday........ I don't mind paying even $100-$200K for COE if it helps to clear up the roads.. But whats the point of paying so much if roads remain so clogged up everyday??? Others don't have COE, also jam up. We have COE also jam.... Well, its high time for LTA to do something to really reduce car population. Btw, one very good suggestion is that COE has to be paid up in cash. Not lump together with car installment. No $100K for COE? Don't get a car, simple as that.

What struck me the most is how proud the grandpa was of his grandson when he came down the plane. Multiple generations of soldiers. All volunteered to serve and protect the country they love.
