For those who like to take to the social media and air your displeasure whenever you encountered some annoying situation, is that all you can do? Let me introduce you to this short video... Please pause the video before the 0:50 mark, and think of what would you do if you face a similar situation as this guy... "Every night I would get an alert from my driveway security camera, and at first I was a bit annoyed, but then I found myself looking forward to the evening alert. And then inspiration struck, in the form of my wife giving me this great idea. What transpired has turned into the best part of an otherwise dreary pandemic summer," wrote CanyonChasers on his YouTube post. So what was his solution? Maybe you have already seen the whole video clip, but here's what he did, which has also won him a lot of praises from his neighbors and netizens. He painted a race track on his driveway with chalk so that the kid could follow and ride through it. Every time it rain and the "track" got washed off, he would paint a new and more elaborate one. He even started to put words of encouragement on it. The track soon proved to be very popular, attracting even adults to test their riding skill... The news and video eventually reach a senior executive at NBC, who reached out to both the YouTuber and the kid to give them NASCAR merchandise from official drivers. Talk about a happy ending for all! So the next time when an unpleasant situation pops up, give yourself a little time to think if you can transform your problem into something better, maybe not as interesting or entertaining as what this guy did, but at least something which could have save your day.

My 4-mth old car side windows had really bad stains from water that leaked from the ceiling. I’m guessing it’s limescale. I tried all kinds of stuff to remove it, turpentine, thinner, glass cleaners, etc, but none worked. I even sent it to the professional groomers to remove the stains and ended with a shiner car albeit with stained windows. Last resort was to get the windows changed if I couldn’t bear with it anymore. Then last week while shopping in JB, I came across a product from WAXCO called “Water marks remover”. Given that it only cost less than S$15 to get it and I’ve already spent a few hundreds on polishing with failed results, I decided to give it a try. Lo and behold, it worked like magic! All the stains were gone. I’ve also used it to clean my front windscreen which had developed juddering after the polishing session, will update if the juddering is gone during the next rain shower. I think it’s some kind of strong chemical in the bottle, it even came with 2 rubber gloves to protect the hands. Directions also stated strictly not to use it on the car paint work, and to rinse it off with lots of water when cleaning is finished. For those with stains in the car windows (and maybe juddering on the windscreen), can try out this product. I bought it from Tesco, but I think other supermarkets will also have. Good and cheap solution for me, only wished I tried it earlier before wasting my money on the polishing! I have photos of the product but don’t know how to upload, so here’s a link to a picture of it. https://www.sgcarmart.com/products/overview.php?ID=7454

Like many I have issues with the atrocious footages of my 5-month old BV DR400G-HD II. The footages were crystal clear initially but now deteriorated untill There were another problem which was the out-of-sync date and time on the unit but i managed to solve it with the help of our resident cam guru Adrian (read post http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=4771472 onwards) The poor video image was initially thought to be the defective lens and there was a suggestion to find a replacement lens machiam what I did for my faulty internal battery. Curious I dismantled the unit for the 1,000th-time and this time I unscrewed the two screws securing the lens to the unit and found out the real cause of the poor image: the internal lens surface was simply covered with dust!!! So I just took a medical alcohol swap to clean all 3 surfaces: both the external/internal lens plus the tiny rectangular film-like surface on the unit (is this the CMOS thingy?) like shown below: Once done I assembled the entire unit and tested it out to see if I was right.

Have you suspected your wife is cheating on you , driving your car to some dark public parks for rendezvous ? Or your company employee had been secretly using your company vehicles to pick up your wife ? OK ..joking.. but do check out the review of this amazingly useful GPS Tracker. You can even use it to track your car if your car might be stolen in Malaysia ( using a malaysian 3G SIM card ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNXPUgQYyfU

Hi all Alfisti, Just to share. If you guys have a loose steering feel, ie. the wheel seems to wander on uneven road and you hear knocks when roads are uneven, you may have a worn tie rod. To confirm this, raise your car, with both hands at 3 and 9 oclock position, rock the front wheel (left or right). if you there is freeplay, chances are your tie rods are worn. To double confirm, remove the rubber boot of the inner tie rod to see the inside when you move the wheel laterally. (inner tie rods fails more often than outer one) The problem with alfa is that they claim that they do not sell the tie rods separately and you have to get a whole steering rack to replace it. so you can either buy from ebay (which i bought and replaced before, but they do not last, it was worn in less than a year (it could be due to some potholes on the road that i encountered that cause the premature failure). Or, get a used rack from scrapyard (like propel) to salvage the tie rods, which i also did on the recently tie rod change. Please do not spent thousands of dollars on a new steering rack when you can fix this problem at a much lower cost. Rdgs

I have experience lost of hydrophobic effect on a 6 months coating due to the amount of dirt and dust trapped on the surface and only used of iron removal then I am able to recover it..You will be surprise parking under a tree during heavy rain will leave a thick layer of bad elements on the surface. So what is the best cleaning solution to use weekly or bi-weekly as a maintenance for PPS to lift off the dirt? Shampoo? plain water? etc? Detailers would advise only wash with water after PPS, waxing or sealant or the most a PH neutral shampoo.. I did a small test to see how much water, shampoo and a solution O( I shall not name the product as this is not a sponsored thread) lift the dirt and clean surface.. The pictures are taken with handphone..Pardon me for the lousy pictures. The car roof surface are marked with solution 0, water and shampoo. Next I prepared a capful of shampoo, a capful of solution in the grit guard bucket and water in another bucket 2 clean wash mitt, one for solution O, one side for water, another side for shampoo on second wash mitt.. Some visible soiled watermarks on every surface before wash I soaked the wash mitt into every solution, squeeze some water out of it.. Surface washed using the wash mitt with the respective solution. Sorry to be continue later, going for my hobby...

Just went for LASIK yesterday and I guess I don't need it anymore. Brand New 3 piece of Power 300 & 325 (each) AirOptix Soft Lens Cibavision to give away. Also a bottle of solution as per attached picture. Chances are slim to find someone with the same but it's worth a shot to try.

Saw this pop up on my FB feed last night. And not too bad timing either, saw some lady driver not being able to park properly over the previous weekend, taking up slightly more than one lot in a two lot bay, so probably, no other car would be able to park there, unless it's a Copen or a Mini maybe. Wanted to leave her a note telling her to park properly in future (only saw the driver when she came back and I already had a lot). Would have left one of these cards on her windscreen if I had it. https://www.facebook.com/CopyBoySG/posts/302403793248197?stream_ref=10 The name's slightly wrong too, haha..

Met a few army friends who are doing car polishing business at customers place. They were storemen, cooks or drivers I met in NS days, only had up to PSLE education or less. They were doing ok and earning honest living despite not being smart from what I can see. All are hardworking. But their humble business is badly affected in recent years as freelance competitors from MY undercut them agreesively doing the same home car polish here. They told me its hard to compete with these MY guys as they need more money to support their sgp families while the MY guys families live in low cost MY and therefore can survive well even with low prices As customers we welcome cheap prices thru such competitions and can justify ourselves when we tell the local polishers that it's a free market, survivals of the fittest, or rather, the cheapest. On the other hand I see my low education + not-so-clever friends suffer as victims of free market. Guess in all systems there will always be such situations where no solution can be found.

We all know that Singapore is NOT a friendly place for cycling. The roads are neither forgiving nor condusive for the serious cyclist - between traffic, congestion and bullying drivers there's not many places for cycling of this nature. The solution would be to have some form (or a couple of) dedicated cycling tracks for the serious cyclist - to keep them safe and to provide a way for them to pursue their passion without annoying others. However, where and how should this happen? What are the conditions? Any thoughts? What I would imagine is needed - A dedicated, smooth cycle track without junctions or lights, it should provide around 10 km uninterrupted run, with a "return loop" (*i.e 10 km each way) would think that one standard road lane width (2.3m) is wide enough. Any other conditions? Do you know of anywhere we could build such a facility? The only other condition - it should have ample and accessible parking nearby.

Khaw: Overall COV irrelevant http://www.asiaone.com/print/News/AsiaOne%...725-290777.html COV figure for resale flats is "misleading" and "quite irrelevant", said National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan. -myp David Lim Mon, Jul 25, 2011 my paper THE overall median cash-over-valuation (COV) figure for resale flats is "misleading" and "quite irrelevant" because data on the type of flats transacted and their location changes from month to month, said National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan yesterday. That is why the Housing Board has stopped its usual practice of disclosing the figure across all housing estates in its quarterly releases, which it started doing in the second quarter of 2007. COV is the cash premium paid by an HDB resale-flat buyer on top of the flat's valuation. Mr Khaw's comments yesterday came two days after HDB released fresh figures showing that resale-flat prices rose 3.1 per cent to hit a new record in the second quarter. The rate of increase was 1.6 per cent in the first quarter. That same day, HDB also said it will no longer disclose in its quarterly releases the overall median COV figure nationwide. Yesterday, he explained that using the nationwide overall median COV figure for broad comparisons across the country would be like comparing apples to oranges. For example, one cannot compare the COV of resale flats in Ang Mo Kio, where prices tend to be higher, to that of resale flats in Woodlands, which tend to be lower, said Mr Khaw. Such data "serves some purpose but I think it can be misleading; that's why I don't think we should reflect the data", the minister said, adding that "much more sophisticated computation" is needed to make a meaningful comparison. He said that, when it comes to buying a flat, the key point for consumers is the purchase price, which is "fully disclosed" on the HDB website. There, home buyers can also find COV information for flat types in different towns. Mr Khaw, who is an MP for Sembawang GRC, was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of his visit to two blocks of flats in Wellington Circle. He was there to give out new rice cookers - sponsored by Akira - as well as staples such as rice and canned food to needy residents living in 286 one- and two-room rental flats. When asked about the spike in resale-flat prices, he said that, while the Government is concerned, "the problems cannot be solved overnight". Mr Khaw said it would take three to five years "to substantively solve the problem". Meanwhile, he is "quite confident" that the situation will improve as a result of the two build-to-order (BTO) launches and surplus flats that will be on offer by the end of this year. Slated for next month and September, the two BTO projects could contribute more than 6,500 units in areas such as Ang Mo Kio, Jurong East, Punggol and Bedok, according to HDB's website. With 15,500 BTO flats offered so far this year, HDB is on track to reach its goal of delivering 25,000 flats by year's end. Mr Khaw's top priority now is to help those who want to get married or want to start a family. To do this, he plans to continue releasing BTO flats to help them feel more assured about their chances of getting a unit. As for those who currently own a flat and want to upgrade, his advice is to hold on for now. He said: "Why come in now when prices are so high? You will regret it. What happens if there's a price correction?"

I believe after reading, listening to the comments, reports, speeches, during this GE run-up, the issues are mostly/all due to chronic/inappropriate longterm planning. Shorterm solutions mistaken/mispresented as longterm solutions. After many years many/most of the problems surfaced together. Most of us do not enjoy the chronic problems now. No need to emigrate. Just change the ruling party (I had been repeatedly voting for them). Let us vote for change (I will join many/most of you make more conducive observations/participation from now on). We all need to be together, not leave it to the next person (can be inappropriate person) to solve problem(s). Let us look at alternatives if existing one can not work well for us. Happy New Years to everyone.

All, I've just installed a Clarion EA1251 iPod interface/adapter in my car. I'm using my iPhone 3GS as the source. The problem is the EA1251 does not charge my iPhone. My installer has mentioned someone got by this problem by using a charging adapter (cig lighter powered?) bought from Sim Lim Square. Priced ard $40. If anyone know the name of this charging adapter, together with the place to get it, I'd be very grateful. A pic of the said adapter will be very helpful. Any other suggestion will be appreciated too. Thanks in advance. Cheers!

Now here's a farmer, doing scholar stuff, for free Being paid millions and not coming up with this is simply not justifiable This video shows the VW-sponsored testing of a speed camera lottery concept in Stockholm. The idea for a speed camera lottery came from American Kevin Richardson, who submitted it as part of Volkswagen's Fun Theory contest and won an award for it. The premise for a speed camera contest is simple: As the camera catches speeders to be fined it also captures those obeying the speed limit. Some of the money raised by the fines is set aside to be won in a lottery by one of the lucky law-abiding drivers. As Richardson says in the video: "I really believe that fun can change human behavior for the better." Over a 3 day period, over 24,000 cars passed the experimental speed lottery camera. Average speed before the test was 32 km/h but dropped to 25 km/h while the camera was there. If the TCMR which iinvolves tax payer money, then the report should be put to good use since the opp parties town council did a bad job shouldnt it the government provide more funding after all the TCMR proves the point furthermore it doesnt matter where you stay we all Singaporeans I dont mind if my TC spare some funds to help neighbouring TC if nothing comes out of the TCMR, it would then be a waste of tax payer's money Pay First, Maintenance Later The first inaugural Town Council Management Report (TCMR) of 16 town councils has the best performers ranked to be Ang Mo Kio-Yio Chu Kang led by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Tanjong Pagar run by his father Lee Kuan Yew. With the frequent flyer miles these two have been chalking up, it makes you wonder how often they show up at meet-the-people-sessions or town council meetings. The two worst performers are, predictably, the opposition wards: Hougang of Workers' Party's Low Thia Khiang and Potong Pasir of Singapore People's Party's Chiam See Tong. The rub is this: their low grades have to do with collecting of arrears in S&CC (service and conservancy charges). Penalised for being sympathetic to the financial pain of the residents in their ward. The big "winners", by comparison, are living up to their party efficacy of "pay and pay". Even Dr Lim Lan Yuan from the National University of Singapore spotted the irony in the priority report: "They may not be chasing residents as much as the others, because when you chase too much, residents may not be happy." Low Thia Khiang has always been skeptical of the undertaking from day one, "Such an exercise.. which inevitably requires much resources put in by the town councils, would translate into higher operating costs, and residents will eventually end up paying higher service and conservancy charges". Opposition town councils are perpetually placed at the bottom of the queue for estate upgrading. Nevertheless, the Hougang Town Council was given a ranking of 4 for maintenance, against the "3 and below" grade received by a PAP town council, inspite of all the upgrading priority afforded them by the party controlled HDB. "It is an accomplishment," Low was proud to announce. Chiam See Tong decided to call a spade a spade, and dismissed the report outright as a ploy to discredit his town council. "They want to thump Potong Pasir down, " a combative Chiam declared. "Potong Pasir is the best town council in Singapore, what do you expect me to say?" Agreeing, residents in Potong Pasir paid no heed to the poor assessment. "It's okay because at least they clean it every day. And I see the person cleaning the lift and sweeping the corridors," said one resident. "I see a big improvement from previous years, such as the roadside, the gardens, the walkways," said another. With electioneering so close, some town council chairmen were quick to assure residents they would not have to pay more for improvements. Ms Indranee Rajah, chairman for Tanjong Pagar Town Council, said it seeks to work within its budget so residents would not pay more (Tanjong Pagar scored a banding of level 1 for all the indicators, except for maintenance, for which they were banded level 3.) The spoiler came from Cynthia Phua, chairman for Aljunied Town Council, who cautioned that if residents do not cooperate, more home visits by town council staff could lead to higher manpower costs.
